Marquez’s Ducati Mystery Solved: Crew Chief Explains Smoke Incident at Italian MotoGP
Clarified: The source of smoke from Marc Marquez's motorcycle following inquiries about the issue.
Explanation provided for the smoke seen coming from Marc Marquez's Ducati.
Marc Marquez's chief mechanic has clarified the cause of the smoke seen emanating from his Ducati during the Italian MotoGP.
At Mugello on Sunday, despite an impressive performance, Gresini's Marquez fell short of securing a spot on the podium, overshadowed by Enea Bastianini's remarkable race.
Bastianini overtook Marquez and Jorge Martin, moving up from fourth to second place, just behind the victor, Pecco Bagnaia.
TNT Sports inquired with Frankie Carchedi, Marquez's crew chief, about the issues they faced.
Carchedi responded, "Our major advantage has always been coming off the final turn.
Despite the build-up, I've witnessed a great deal. There was a slight hint of smoke.
Marc altered his path, thus he maneuvered over a large obstacle in an attempt to make a swift exit.
"That's the source of the smoke. There was nothing more to it.
"He attempted to gain momentum, but sadly, he wasn't able to overtake Enea."
"The temperatures of the front tire were extremely high."
Carchedi reflected on Marquez's performance at Mugello, describing it as varied. He noted that Marquez secured valuable points.
"In general, we managed to close the gap on the leader at a circuit that isn’t among his best."
"He was simply delighted to remain in contention throughout the weekend."
Sylvain Guintoli characterized Marquez's weekend as positive and robust, yet falling slightly short of the mark.
Marquez currently holds the third position in the MotoGP rankings, trailing the frontrunner Martin by 35 points.
Bastianini excels, overcoming 'terrible sensation'
Bastianini captivated audiences by advancing from fourth to second place at Mugello.
He masterfully passed Marquez during the final moments.
Neil Hodgson commented on TNT Sports, stating, "It all comes down to traction. He possesses a unique skill to utilize the tires effectively once they're heated up. He extensively employs his physique."
"How about that for a delivery, as perfect as they come."
You overtake the fiercest competitor without offering the slightest leeway, yet the maneuver was executed neatly.
He blocked the eight-time global champion on the track. Marc was unable to make the turn, which forced him off his line, providing Enea with an opportunity.
"He finished the race just 0.7 seconds after the champion."
Bastianini often faced challenges when competing in his local race.
This year, he came back, possibly facing the loss of his 2025 Ducati spot to either Martin or Marquez.
However, he surpassed his competitors on the circuit at the crucial moment.
Hodgson remarked, "Occasionally, when you're at your own home race, feeling that additional pressure, you push yourself just a bit harder…"
"I'm pleased for him. He's been under a great deal of stress."
"It's a terrible sensation when nobody is even considering you as a candidate to secure your position for the upcoming season."
