Marc Marquez’s Tactical Shift: Studying Ducati Rivals to Break Qualifying Slump at Italian MotoGP
Marc Marquez: I analyzed the techniques of the other Ducatis for achieving quick laps
Marc Marquez: "I've gained an understanding of their methods for fast laps. Now, it's time for me to adjust accordingly."
Following challenging Qualifying 1 sessions in the previous two races, which resulted in him starting from 13th and 14th positions, Marc Marquez secured a direct entry into Q2 by achieving fifth place on Friday during the Italian MotoGP.
"Marquez expressed greater joy compared to previous Fridays, highlighting the significance of being in the second quarter as a key goal. Beyond that, he was pleased with the consistent performance, mirroring the success seen in recent races."
"Pecco seems to have an advantage, but we're not giving up. We'll continue to strive and make sure we perform well in tomorrow's qualifying round."
The Gresini team member, who navigated his way through the pack to secure podium finishes at Le Mans and Barcelona, shared that he delved into the data from other Ducatis in an effort to discover the key to achieving a quick lap time with the Desmosedici.
"The eight-time world champion remarked, “I altered my riding technique slightly during a single lap [time attack]. I've observed the strategies employed by other Ducati riders for achieving quick laps and have grasped them; however, I now require some time to adjust.
"I'm focusing on maintaining my [corner] entry since that's one of my strengths. However, I aim not to compromise on the exit. Essentially, the primary issue with the new tire was that it exerted too much pressure on the front."
"The Ducati performs exceptionally well at Mugello, making it a delight to ride in this location."
Rumors surrounding Marquez's intentions for 2025 have intensified at Mugello, following whispers that he was outcompeted by championship frontrunner Jorge Martin for the coveted Ducati factory position next to Francesco Bagnaia.
However, Mugello represents just the seventh race for Marquez on the GP23, and as highlighted by his time-attack strategy, he's showing signs of progress at every race.
Marquez currently occupies the third position in the global championship, trailing Bagnaia by two points (with Bagnaia facing a penalty of three grid places for impeding Marc's sibling Alex during a practice session) and is 41 points away from Martin.
