Lewis Hamilton Overcomes Early Power Setback to Secure Podium Finish at Spanish GP
Lewis Hamilton remarked that he experienced a slight loss of power, which contributed to his subpar start at the Spanish Grand Prix. The driver looked back on an uncommon poor performance at the beginning of the race.
Lewis Hamilton expressed regret over a slow beginning in the first lap of the F1 Spanish Grand Prix, hinting that a power drop might have been the cause.
Beginning from the third position on the grid, Hamilton was overtaken by his Mercedes teammate George Russell and both Ferrari cars as they approached Turn 1.
Hamilton showed courage as he braked into the first turn, moving up to fourth place, right behind Lando Norris.
The seven-time world champion fell behind Carlos Sainz during the pit stop period but managed to regain positions as the race progressed.
In the final stages of the race, Hamilton managed to pass Russell, earning his first podium finish of the season.
After securing a third-place finish in Barcelona, Hamilton shared with Sky Sports: “This weekend has been absolutely fantastic. It’s been quite a while since I achieved a result like this. I am extremely pleased. I feel a sense of lightness, which is wonderful.”
"I've received tremendous support here, and I believe it has increased over the years. I'm deeply grateful to everyone present and those who have consistently supported me. Unfortunately, I had a very poor start."
“I’m not entirely certain what went wrong. It seemed like I lost some momentum in the second part. Being surrounded by the Ferraris made things challenging, but managing to recover from that was quite incredible.”
"In the end, I believe that if I had started off as I should have, I would have been much nearer to those competitors."
Hamilton executed a remarkable move on Sainz during Lap 19 following the initial round of pit stops.
The two drivers made contact when Hamilton moved to the inside at Turn 1, prompting Sainz to voice his frustration over the team radio.
The officials chose not to look into the event.
Hamilton believed his maneuver past Sainz was "clean" and he provided as much room as possible.
"It worked out really well for me," he mentioned. "In my opinion, it was a fair move. In the end, he didn't completely block the inside. He left some space, and I took the opportunity."
"A last-minute maneuver brought me side by side with him; our wheels were aligned. He remained on the track, so I gave him as much room as possible."
