Lewis Hamilton's positive assessment following his lead in Spanish GP practice
Lewis Hamilton shares his thoughts on a successful day for Mercedes at the Spanish Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton feels confident that Mercedes is "certainly in a stronger position" following their impressive performance in Friday's Formula 1 practice session for the Spanish Grand Prix.
Hamilton led the timing charts in the second practice session, surpassing Ferrari's Carlos Sainz.
The remarkable single-lap speed of the seven-time world champion furthered Mercedes' ongoing resurgence.
George Russell secured the pole position in the previous race in Canada, with Mercedes appearing to have the fastest car in dry conditions.
Mercedes seems to be competing once more alongside Red Bull, Ferrari, and McLaren at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Although Hamilton is not concentrating on the lap times, he firmly believes that the Mercedes W15 offers a better driving experience.
"The first practice session was just okay. I drove the car in that session, and we gained a lot of insights," he mentioned. "The second practice session was significantly better. We implemented some effective adjustments. The car performed excellently today."
The track conditions are extremely hot, making it particularly challenging for the tires, especially during extended runs. It seems that we're not significantly behind. I'm not focusing too much on lap times at this point. The car's performance has definitely improved.
"We need to make overnight improvements to keep up with the Red Bulls, McLarens, and Ferraris."
Mercedes keep enhancing their vehicle with new updates as they aim to recover from a sluggish beginning to the season.
Hamilton praised Mercedes for improving the car's drivability through the gradual progress the team is making in their development efforts.
"We are certainly putting in the effort," he mentioned. "The entire factory team is laboring diligently, just as they do annually."
“We now have a clearer vision and a stronger sense of direction for the future of our car.”
"We're making progress bit by bit. Everyone is putting in a lot of effort to develop components steadily instead of in large, sporadic bursts. I truly appreciate that."
“We're beginning to notice how at ease we, as drivers, feel while in the vehicle.”
