**Leclerc Cautions Ferrari Fans: Recent Upgrades Not Enough for Consistent Wins This Season**
Charles Leclerc cautions that Ferrari's improvements may not be sufficient to secure victories for the rest of the season.
"Is it sufficient to clinch wins for the remainder of the season? I don't believe so yet, but we've made significant progress in the right direction."
Charles Leclerc has cautioned that Ferrari must enhance their performance to consistently compete with McLaren for the rest of the 2024 F1 season.
Leclerc secured his second win of the season by utilizing a one-stop strategy, outpacing McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.
Before Piastri took his second pit stop, Leclerc was trailing by five seconds, underscoring that McLaren possessed the fastest car at Monza.
Ferrari rolled out a major update for the Italian Grand Prix, aimed at resolving their issues with car bouncing.
During the FIA press conference following the race at Monza, Leclerc advised Ferrari to "exercise caution".
“We need to be careful,” he stated. “Following Monaco, I believe we experienced the four most challenging races of the season, as Monaco's conditions were uniquely suited to our car at that moment. Monza, too, is a unique and distinctive circuit.”
"There were many straight sections and few turns on this track. We had a specific rear wing designed for this circuit, which contributed to our victory today. Additionally, we implemented another upgrade that I believe has narrowed the gap between us and McLaren. However, I don't think it's sufficient for us to be the dominant car at other tracks for the remainder of the season."
“We've got plenty of work ahead of us, but I'm thrilled to have achieved this in Italy.”
Although Leclerc has faced challenges since Monaco, he is only 24 points behind Norris in the drivers' standings.
In the constructors' championship, Ferrari trails Red Bull by only 39 points.
However, Leclerc has tempered the high hopes, referring to previous discussions of a championship bid after his victory in Monaco.
"We performed exceptionally well this weekend, but Baku might present a completely different challenge, and Singapore will be unique once more. Therefore, we need to adjust our approach. We successfully made adjustments from Monaco to Montreal, and as demonstrated, the transition between these two weekends involved significant differences."
"We experienced some of the toughest races of the season as we tried to figure out the issues with our car. Hopefully, we won't face several more challenging races moving forward, and I believe that won't be the case."
"However, it's crucial to ensure that both the team and outside expectations remain grounded and don't skyrocket from one race to the next, as that wouldn't be realistic."
"Have we made progress? Yes. Is it sufficient to secure victories for the rest of the season? Not quite yet, but we've definitely moved in the right direction."
