Jorge Martin Vows Rookie Mistake at Mugello’s Final Corner Will Be His Last
Jorge Martin promises the "rookie error" made at Mugello "will not be repeated"
Jorge Martin assures, "Believe me, this will not occur again. A mark of a skilled rider is learning from their errors. Today, I made a foolish error, akin to that of a novice."
Jorge Martin has stated that the error he made at the last turn of the Italian MotoGP, which resulted in Enea Bastianini overtaking him for the runner-up position, will not be repeated.
During his slip to third place, Martin also fell further behind in points to his competitor for the MotoGP championship, Francesco Bagnaia, at Mugello.
Throughout the majority of the competition, Martin trailed behind Bagnaia but managed to catch up, reaching a position where he appeared ready to contest the Italian for the victory in the final moments.
Nonetheless, Martin encountered a setback as he significantly fell behind Bastianini, the very competitor he had an incident with during the sprint race, ultimately conceding his spot at the last turn.
"Martin remarked, "The race was fascinating. I'm actually content observing it from a different perspective. Despite the immense disappointment following the last lap maneuver, I would have gladly accepted a podium finish before the race even started."
"Yesterday was quite challenging for me, and I found myself in a difficult situation, to put it mildly. We made significant progress compared to yesterday, and with three laps remaining, I was incredibly close to catching up with Pecco."
"Being nearby is one thing, but being sufficiently near to take action is another. Although I wasn't quite there, we were significantly more competitive than the previous season."
"We always aim to be at the top of our game, and I believe I've secured a spot on the podium every weekend. From Thursday, it seemed like this circuit was destined for Pecco, so finishing near him is genuinely encouraging."
In the last lap, Martin didn't show any apparent errors, yet he thinks he had a chance to stop Bastianini from passing him.
In response to a question regarding his previous error on a final lap, Martin stated, "I can't recall. You learn and grow from your experiences, and today, I encountered a really tough situation in the last corner."
"Believe me, this will not occur again going forward. I believe a true mark of a skilled rider is their ability to learn from errors.
"Today, I made a foolish error, as if I were a novice. Next year, when we reach the final lap in Mugello, I'll make sure to always stay on the white line."
