George Russell dismisses concerns about Red Bull's performance drop: "They've secured victory in 7 out of the initial 10 races!"
"They've clinched 7 wins out of the first 10 races. It doesn't seem too challenging…"
George Russell dismissed concerns regarding Red Bull's performance dip, emphasizing that they have secured victories in seven out of the first ten F1 races of the 2024 season.
Although Red Bull has secured victories in more than half of the races this year, Max Verstappen has had to put in considerable effort to achieve these wins.
In 2024, McLaren, Ferrari, and Mercedes have each demonstrated impressive speed, frequently challenging Verstappen.
During the most recent race in Barcelona, McLaren seemed to have the quickest vehicle with Lando Norris driving, yet it was Verstappen who ultimately won.
In Canada, the situation mirrored previous events: McLaren excelled in the wet weather, whereas Mercedes had a car that could potentially secure victory in dry conditions.
Earlier, Ferrari secured a victory in Monaco with driver Charles Leclerc, while at Imola, Norris came in just 0.7 seconds after Verstappen.
Nonetheless, Russell swiftly dismissed inquiries regarding Red Bull’s decline in performance.
In an interview with select media outlets, including Crash.net, when questioned about his thoughts on Red Bull's current performance, he remarked, "They've secured victories in 7 of the first 10 races. It doesn't seem too challenging…"
Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton provided a deeper analysis of what many see as Red Bull's decline in performance.
Hamilton thinks it was only a matter of time before Red Bull's competitors caught up due to the unchanging regulations.
Moreover, Hamilton pointed out that since Red Bull is leading the championship standings, they receive less wind tunnel time compared to their competitors.
"Surprised? Not really," Hamilton remarked. "That's just how it is in this sport. As we approach the end of the era for these cars, it's common for performance to decline and improvements to become more challenging."
"They have been at the forefront for many years. Additionally, their development period is shorter. It makes sense that other teams are gradually closing the gap. Nevertheless, their performance remains outstanding."
Red Bull holds a 60-point advantage over Ferrari in the constructors' championship as they approach the Austrian Grand Prix this weekend.
