Fernando Alonso Praises Lance Stroll’s Dedication as Aston Martin Secures His Future Until 2025
Fernando Alonso praises Lance Stroll's dedication and commitment following his new deal with Aston Martin. Alonso is glad that Stroll will continue racing for the team in 2025.
Fernando Alonso expressed that it is "excellent news" that Lance Stroll has decided to stay with Aston Martin for the foreseeable future by securing a new Formula 1 contract.
In advance of the Austrian Grand Prix this weekend, Aston Martin revealed that Stroll will stay with the team through "2025 and beyond."
Stroll has been part of the team located in Silverstone since 2019, back when they competed under the name 'Racing Point'.
It comes as no surprise that the Canadian is still with the team, considering it's owned by his father, Lawrence Stroll.
During an interview with a few media outlets, including Crash.net, in Austria on Thursday, Alonso praised his teammate, calling him "very dedicated" and "committed" to his role as an F1 driver. These attributes have often been subjects of skepticism regarding Stroll over the years.
Alonso mentioned that he is extremely dedicated and committed to his role. He spends a significant amount of time working in the simulator. Living in the UK is advantageous, and they have consistently communicated about the team and car-related matters.
"In the past two days, we've been in constant communication via WhatsApp after our time in Barcelona. Even on Sunday night, we exchanged lengthy messages. This type of relationship is unique compared to what I've had with other teammates before. He has always been very open and frequently asks about various aspects of driving, braking techniques, and different types of circuits."
"I’m committed to this team for a long-term project in my life and career. Even when I’m no longer driving, I hope Lance will lead the team, and I will support him from the sidelines."
Regarding the contract extension, Alonso considers it a positive development for the team. He emphasizes Stroll's value as a team player, which is crucial as they aim to improve Aston Martin's performance after a challenging period.
"It’s definitely positive news for the team,” he commented. “He was contemplating his future or waiting for something, but from our perspective, it’s fantastic because he is already very familiar with the team."
"I believe that except for a few years at Williams, he has spent most of his career within this environment, working with the same team. His familiarity with Aston's history, its current state, and the improvements or setbacks over time allows him to make better enhancements."
"I've received similar input from various teams, and together we can collaborate to find the best solutions. Over the past year and a half, we've had a great working relationship. Personally, I'm thrilled to be working with someone who is focused on the team's success rather than personal goals. This is very positive news for the team."
