Expert Panel Defends Hamilton’s Controversial Overtake on Sainz at Spanish GP: ‘Clean Racing, No Penalty Needed
Experts have delivered their opinions after Carlos Sainz voiced his dissatisfaction with Lewis Hamilton's overtaking maneuver. Sainz remarked, "Someone is bound to be pushed, bumped, or face difficulties."
Specialists within the racing community have shown support for Lewis Hamilton regarding the incident that upset Carlos Sainz.
During Lap 19 of the F1 Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday, the driver of the Mercedes car passed the Ferrari driver.
Hamilton moved to the inside, causing their wheels to make contact, which led Sainz to express his frustration over team radio about the move.
Officials decided against looking into the matter.
Hamilton stood by his actions, stating, "I believe it was a fair move. In the end, he didn't completely block the inside lane, leaving an opening that I aimed for."
"With a last-minute maneuver, I pulled up next to him, matching his pace. He remained on the track, so I gave him as much room as possible."
Anthony Davidson from Sky Sports analyzed the overtaking maneuver.

He examined the situation and thought, "As he gets closer to Sainz, should he move to the outside or the inside?"
"The void remains, as he mentioned, on the interior."
"Therefore, the relocation is definitely happening now."
"You observe the approaching car from the exterior."
“The vehicle on the outer side must consistently maintain a full car's width up to the white line. Keep in mind, the white line marks the track's boundary, not the curb.
Due to the curb, Hamilton's vehicle is jolted. Lewis is struggling to control the car, doing everything he can to avoid contact with the Ferrari.
"But since he's been forced onto the curb previously, he's now counting on Carlos to provide extra space. He's been slightly pressured."
"There was some contact. A piece of carbon fiber breaks off from the vehicle and flies into the air."
"There was some contact, but I believe it happened primarily because Lewis was pushed slightly towards the corner."
"An identical incident occurred with Sainz and his teammate!"
Damon Hill concurred that Hamilton's maneuver was legitimate: "I believe it was. I've witnessed some excellent racing and impressive overtaking."
"It's always somewhat unpredictable when you approach those extremes."
Someone is going to be pressured, pushed, and experience hardship.
"They are grown up. They need to learn to take care of themselves."
Danica Patrick commented, “I enjoyed it and believe he performed well. There was sufficient space."
Carlos should stay low. The smartest move is to stay concentrated and simply move beyond him.
"Occasionally, expressing grievances, participating in radio shows, or getting sidetracked can somewhat detract from your focus."
