Esteban Ocon Joins Haas F1: Completes Dynamic 2025 Driver Line-Up with Oliver Bearman
Esteban Ocon finalizes the revamped Haas F1 driver roster for 2025
Esteban Ocon will team up with Ollie Bearman at Haas in the upcoming year
Haas has finalized their redesigned driver roster for the 2025 Formula 1 season by bringing Esteban Ocon on board.
On Thursday, the American team announced that they have secured a deal with Ocon, who has signed a new "multi-year" contract just before this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps.
A 27-year-old French driver, who has previously won a grand prix, had been strongly associated with Haas following the announcement of his exit from Alpine earlier this year. He has now confirmed his spot on the F1 grid for the upcoming season.
Haas is set to feature a completely fresh driver roster in 2025, as Ocon teams up with Ferrari junior Oliver Bearman. Bearman's elevation from Formula 2 was announced just before the British Grand Prix at Silverstone earlier this month.
Team principal Ayao Komatsu expressed his pleasure in announcing that Esteban Ocon has been successfully signed to the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team.
"I've known about his skills for quite a while, and our relationship goes back to Esteban's first drive in a Formula 1 car – I was his race engineer that day with Lotus."
He showcased his abilities at that time, following impressive showings in the junior leagues, having recently secured the 2014 European Formula 3 Championship title. Esteban has since progressed to become a recognized figure in Formula 1 and, notably, a grand prix victor.
His expertise, stemming from both his personal skills and his experience with a manufacturer team, will benefit us as we develop as an organization.
"It was crucial for us to have an experienced driver alongside Oliver Bearman next year, but Esteban is just 27 years old – he's still young and has much to demonstrate too. I believe we have an eager and energetic driver duo, and I am excited to welcome Esteban to the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team for 2025."
Gene Haas, the owner of the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team, emphasized the importance of having a driver with a proven track record in Formula 1. He stated that Esteban, being a grand prix winner, clearly meets this criterion.
"Esteban has consistently demonstrated his ability to be competitive and earn points for the teams he has raced with. We want to leverage this consistency to achieve better performance on the track."
"We have a mix of young talent and seasoned professionals in our upcoming team of drivers, and I'm eager to witness the outcomes."
Ocon expressed his excitement about starting a new phase in his Formula 1 career by joining the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team at the beginning of the 2025 season.
“I’m excited to become a part of a highly driven racing team, whose determination, dedication, and clear progress have truly captivated me. I want to express my gratitude to Gene Haas and Ayao Komatsu for their confidence and backing, as well as for our sincere and productive conversations over the past few months.
"On a personal level, I’m thrilled to reunite with Ayao, who was there when I first got behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car with Lotus Junior over a decade ago. The MoneyGram Haas F1 Team has ambitious goals and exciting plans for the future, and I’m eager to collaborate with the teams in Kannapolis, Banbury, and Maranello, and contribute to this remarkable project."
Opting to sign Ocon means that Kevin Magnussen is left without a seat for the 2025 season, and his opportunities to secure a spot in F1 are dwindling.
The only viable teams with vacancies for the upcoming season are Alpine, Williams, and Sauber.
