China carried out the execution of a scientist accused of espionage in 2016, as highlighted in a documentary that unveiled 10 startling cases.
The text reports that in late 2020, an undisclosed Chinese IT firm secured a commercial agreement to gather electronic signal data across China's extensive railway systems. This contract was awarded by a foreign entity which previously claimed to specialize in market research prior to branching out into the Chinese railway sector to offer technical support services.
According to the ministry, the overseas firm, hindered by Beijing's Covid restrictions from deploying its staff to China, delegated the tasks to local Chinese contractors. The ministry also discovered that this foreign company served numerous clients, encompassing foreign intelligence bodies, defense and military sectors, and various government departments.
The report indicated that the Chinese firm was cognizant of the possibility that the foreign company could have hidden agendas. However, lured by the promise of a profitable deal, it proceeded to purchase and set up apparatus as stipulated in the foreign entity's contract. It gathered data at designated spots and carried out mobile testing and data collection across various cities and along high-speed railway tracks as directed by the overseas client.
The department reported that the initiative amassed 500 gigabytes of data over a month, encompassing information from Internet of Things signals, mobile and railway communications, and secure networks.
