Ducati’s Bold 2025 Vision: Embracing Change with the Greatest Rider Lineup in MotoGP History
Dall'Igna: The departure of Pramac balanced by securing 'the greatest Ducati riders ever' for the 2025 MotoGP season
Gigi Dall'Igna anticipates the upcoming Ducati team roster for next year
Ducati's top executive Gigi Dall’Igna admits the team will face challenges in 2025 due to Pramac's absence, but this drawback is balanced by securing the most outstanding riders the brand has ever had in MotoGP.
This summer, the reigning MotoGP champion caused a major stir in the 2025 rider market by revealing a surprising shift in its decision. Instead of moving Jorge Martin up to its premier team, it opted for Marc Marquez.
As a result, Martin inked a deal with Aprilia, and the Pramac team, which receives factory support, chose to secure a satellite agreement with Yamaha for the 2025 season.
This implies that Ducati's presence on the grid will be reduced to six motorcycles next year from eight, with its official team lineup comprising Francesco Bagnaia, Marquez, and VR46 team member Fabio Di Giannantonio.
Dall'Igna acknowledges that Ducati might face a disadvantage against its competitors in 2025 due to Pramac's departure, yet he believes the benefits acquired by the factory team significantly offset this shortfall.
"Dall'Igna mentioned to motogp.com that they are likely the pioneer in leveraging satellite team data to enhance the motorcycle's performance, acknowledging that there will be limited chances to continue this practice going forward."
Other producers discovered that achieving such a feat was indeed feasible, thus it became the new norm.
"In summary, our team will not be as strong next year due to a decrease in the number of cyclists."
"However, from another perspective, our factory team is likely to feature the most exceptional riders Ducati has ever seen in its history."
"Other teams not only poach our riders but also many of our technicians; this includes teams from Yamaha, Aprilia, and now Honda. Certainly, it motivates us to strive for excellence."
As of now, Ducati riders hold the first four positions in the championship standings, with Pramac's Martin in the lead, seven points ahead of Bagnaia, going into this weekend's Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
In the 2024 racing season, Ducati has triumphed in every grand prix except for one, a feat that has Dall'Igna expressing immense pride and satisfaction with the team's performance.
Dall'Igna is confident that Ducati can manage any potential conflict between Bagnaia and Marquez in 2025
Bagnaia, who has won the world championship twice, mentioned that having Marquez join the Ducati team could either be a great success or a complete failure.
Dall'Igna concurs with Bagnaia's evaluation, yet remains optimistic that Ducati can handle any potential friction among them.
"Dall'Igna mentioned that he had extensive discussions with Mauro Grassilli and Claudio Domenicali to figure out the optimal choice,” regarding Ducati's choice to bring Marquez on board, who achieved his initial victories with the team at Aragon and Misano.
"It's clear that our choice is limited to a single rider, and ultimately, Marc is the one we will go with. Honestly, we are quite pleased with this decision."
"I genuinely concur with him [Pecco]. They are truly among the top competitors in the championship, but without a doubt, their personalities are incredibly assertive.
"Thus, it's crucial that we handle them effectively over the coming year."
"Frankly, I feel quite optimistic that we'll be able to handle the situation, and ultimately, I'm hopeful it will turn out to be an exceptional year for Ducati, rather than a catastrophe."
