Ducati’s Bold 2025 Lineup: Dall’Igna Confident Despite Pramac Loss, Boasts ‘Best Riders in History
Dall'Igna Reflects on Compensating Pramac's Departure with 2025's Top Ducati MotoGP Talent
Gigi Dall'Igna anticipates the stellar roster of Ducati's factory team for the upcoming season.
Ducati's chief executive Gigi Dall’Igna expressed concerns about the brand being "less strong" in 2025 due to the absence of Pramac, although he believes this disadvantage is balanced out by the team having the most outstanding lineup of riders in its MotoGP history.
This summer, the reigning MotoGP powerhouse caused a stir in the 2025 rider lineup by reversing its earlier plan to elevate Jorge Martin to its premier team, opting instead for Marc Marquez.
The consequences led to Martin inking a contract with Aprilia, meanwhile, the Pramac team, backed by the manufacturer, chose to secure a satellite agreement with Yamaha for the year 2025.
This indicates that next year, Ducati's presence on the grid will be reduced to six motorcycles from eight, with its official lineup comprising only Francesco Bagnaia, Marquez, and VR46 team member Fabio Di Giannantonio.
Dall’Igna acknowledges that Ducati may face a disadvantage against its competitors in 2025 due to the departure of Pramac, however, he believes the benefits gained by the factory team more than compensate for the loss.
"Dall'Igna mentioned to motogp.com that they might be the pioneers in leveraging satellite team data to enhance their motorcycle's performance, acknowledging that chances to do so in the future might be fewer."
Other producers discovered that achieving such a feat was indeed feasible, making it the new norm.
"In general, our team will not be as strong next year due to a decrease in the number of riders."
"However, from another perspective, for a factory squad, we might have the most outstanding riders Ducati has ever seen in its history."
"Other teams not only attract our riders but also a significant number of technicians; Yamaha, Aprilia, and now Honda. Certainly, this motivates us to excel even further."
As of now, Ducati riders hold the first four positions in the championship standings, leading up to the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix this weekend. Pramac's Martin is in the lead, ahead of Bagnaia by seven points.
Among all the Grand Prix races held in 2024, Ducati has clinched victory in all except one, which has left Dall'Igna feeling extremely satisfied and proud of the work they've accomplished.
Dall'Igna confident Ducati can manage potential Bagnaia/Marquez rivalry in 2025
Two-time world champion Bagnaia recently mentioned that having Marquez join the Ducati team could either be a great success or a complete failure.
Dall'Igna concurs with Bagnaia's evaluation, yet remains optimistic that Ducati can handle any potential strain among the duo.
"Dall'Igna mentioned that extensive discussions were held among himself, Mauro Grassilli, and Claudio Domenicali to determine the optimal choice," regarding Ducati's move to bring Marquez on board, who secured his initial victories with the team at Aragon and Misano.
"It's certain that we can choose just a single rider, and ultimately, Marc will be our choice, a decision we are genuinely pleased with."
"I genuinely share his [Pecco's] opinion. They truly stand out as two of the premier competitors in the championship, undoubtedly marked by their exceptionally strong personalities.
"Thus, it's crucial that we effectively handle them over the coming year."
"Truthfully, I believe we are capable of handling this scenario, and I'm optimistic that rather than ending in catastrophe, it will turn out to be an outstanding year for Ducati."
