Daniel Ricciardo Eyes Red Bull Future After Breakthrough Canadian GP Performance Amid Aston Martin Rivalry
Daniel Ricciardo acknowledges that achieving a significant result was both beneficial and necessary to secure a new contract. He emphasized his desire to earn the deal, rather than simply being offered an extension without merit.
Daniel Ricciardo acknowledged that his impressive showing in Canada was necessary to secure his place in Formula 1.
The contract for the RB driver is set to end this year, and his underwhelming performance throughout most of the season has led to criticism, particularly from Jacques Villeneuve, who has questioned his value.
Ricciardo achieved his best finish of the season with an eighth-place result at the Canadian Grand Prix, despite being embroiled in a verbal clash with Villeneuve.
As the F1 Spanish Grand Prix approaches this weekend, he is feeling more hopeful about securing a position with RB for the 2025 season.
"Canada was definitely beneficial. I really needed a performance like that," Ricciardo mentioned while in Barcelona.
"I prefer to remain here. Since returning to the Red Bull team, I can't envision being part of any other group."
"I would really like to remain and keep going."
Prior to the Canada event, I mentioned that I aim to deserve it.
"Not merely saying, 'sure, sure, stick around for another year…'"
"I definitely want to stay because I believe I still fit in here. I can still deliver performances like the one I did last week and continue to excel."
"If that's the situation, I'd be delighted to remain."
RB promises to revamp Aston Martin
Ricciardo was questioned regarding his progress with the RB.
“The outcome definitely makes a difference. The sentiment hasn't been too different,” he remarked.
"The place where I ended up after crossing the finish line hasn't always been my desired destination."
“In Canada, we began strongly right from practice. It had been a while since we had a weekend like that.
"It was pleasant to have a strong beginning and a strong finish."
"The team has been excellent in providing updates, and the car has made significant progress."
"I believe we can maintain a more steady presence."
"Beneficial for myself, advantageous for those encouraging me, and a reminder that I am capable."
"Having a weekend like that was essential and much appreciated. It was a positive experience for all involved."
RB is among the various teams introducing enhancements in Barcelona.
Ricciardo stated that they anticipate progress.
“But compared to others? We’ll have to wait and find out.”
Historically, this marks the beginning of the European season when everyone puts forth their utmost effort.
"I understand that we will be faster, but it's all about perspective."
“Our team has consistently performed well, earning points almost every weekend.”
The newly energized RB, along with the in-form Yuki Tsunoda, is aiming to surpass Aston Martin.
"It's the objective," Ricciardo cautioned.
In Canada, they overtook us during the competition and had a greater advantage on Sunday.
"This year, we were nearer than we had anticipated."
"The current mindset is to keep progressing. We don't see sixth place as our final position; we're aiming higher."
"We'd really like to compete against Aston more frequently."
“We consider ourselves to be near them.”
