Brundle Points to Internal Turmoil as Key Factor in Red Bull’s F1 Struggles in 2024
Martin Brundle has proposed that "internal events" might be the reason behind Red Bull's recent downturn in F1 2024.
Famed Formula 1 analyst Martin Brundle has indicated that recent off-track incidents involving Red Bull have negatively affected their performance in the 2024 season.
Red Bull faced their toughest challenge of the season at the previous Monaco Grand Prix, where Max Verstappen crossed the finish line in sixth place.
Verstappen experienced his poorest race outcome since the 2022 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, leading to Charles Leclerc closing the gap in the F1 drivers' championship to merely 31 points.
Red Bull has faced challenges in their last three races.
In Miami, Lando Norris managed to outperform them, and it's believed that McLaren might have had a marginally faster vehicle at Imola if not for an outstanding qualifying performance from Verstappen.
In Monaco, Red Bull found themselves behind both Ferrari and McLaren in terms of speed, ranking as the third-quickest team. This situation was exacerbated by an unusual error during the third qualifying session (Q3) made by the current world champion
Brundle believes that the ongoing issues off the race track could have negatively impacted the team's performance, given the rising tensions since the season began.
"In his Sky F1 column, he mentioned that Ferrari and McLaren are performing impressively, with both their teams and driver duos appearing highly unified, concentrated, and organized."
This suggests that Red Bull is closely monitoring their competition in both the drivers' and constructors' standings, indicating that the race is on with numerous events yet to unfold.
"I firmly believe the recent happenings within Red Bull have negatively impacted their latest results, and they're certainly eager to get back to their usual standards during the upcoming Montreal event."
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner downplayed worries regarding his team's performance, acknowledging that it was natural for their competitors to catch up due to the consistency in the rules.
Horner is eager to assess Red Bull's performance in the upcoming races before drawing any solid conclusions.
"He mentioned that this was observed in Singapore the previous year while speaking in Monaco. He acknowledged it as another instance, highlighting a known issue with the vehicle that requires attention. He pointed out that the weekend offered valuable learnings and identified specific problems with the car that need to be resolved.
Ferrari and McLaren have shown impressive speed. It was inevitable that they would come closer in performance. McLaren seems to have made a significant leap, while Ferrari's improvement was more nuanced. We'll have to observe their progress over the upcoming two or three races.
As we delve deeper into the heart of the championship, it's time to focus on the upcoming races in Montreal, Barcelona, Austria, and Silverstone. Over these next few tracks, we'll observe how the competition unfolds. Remember, it's more about endurance than speed.
"We anticipated a challenging weekend ahead of us. The difficulty we faced during the qualifying rounds set the tone for our position in the race."
