Brad Binder’s Rolling Burnout and Jack Miller’s Last-Lap Duel: Highlights from Aragon MotoGP
Brad Binder exclaimed, "I ended up doing another rolling burnout!" Meanwhile, Jack Miller remarked that he was "nipped by Rins." Reflecting on his strategy, Brad Binder mentioned, "I had a solid idea last night to avoid spinning off the start…"
Brad Binder achieved his best MotoGP results since the Qatar season opener, finishing in 4th and 6th place at Aragon.
This happened even though he veered off course in both races, despite his seventh-place finish being on a cleaner section of a messy starting grid.
During the middle part of the race, Binder trailed rookie Pedro Acosta. This pursuit turned into a contest for third place when Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia collided with 5 laps remaining.
However, Acosta remained slightly beyond grasp.
“Last night, I came up with a solid strategy to avoid losing traction at the start, and I managed to execute a rolling burnout just like I did the previous day,” Binder said with a smile.
"I navigated through and overtook several competitors. It was challenging to avoid errors as the front tire was overheating while trailing others, right up until the final part of the race."
"I attempted to gain time by accelerating out of the corners since I couldn't approach them too quickly due to the front tire overheating. However, this strategy backfired, leaving the left side of the tire completely worn out by the end."
"I did everything I could to overtake Pedro, but my car had no power left from the back!"
"Besides that, we took some significant positive strides this weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective throughout the race."
Jack Miller, his teammate, had a strong start by advancing from 15th place on the grid to 8th by the end of the first lap. However, the Australian quickly encountered issues with rear grip.
After being overtaken by Alex Rins on the final lap and losing the ninth position, he was subsequently penalized along with two other riders for having incorrect tire pressure, resulting in a 16-second post-race penalty that placed him in 15th.
“That was a long race,” Miller commented. “The track conditions changed again; it was dirty for most of the weekend, but today it felt more slippery.”
"I gave it my all. It was quite challenging to manage the [medium] rear tire, and I experienced a major highside incident while exiting the final corner."
"I found my pace and focused on maintaining it. There were several challenges when transitioning from the edge to the center of the tire, but I managed to finish."
"I didn't make any errors during the race, but I found it difficult to keep up with the guys ahead of me. We'll continue to work hard."
"I'm pleased to have finished in the top ten, but it was frustrating to be overtaken by Rins on the final lap's back straight. I was trying to be as accurate as possible, but I lost momentum and he managed to pass me."
"We will return to Misano in the future."
KTM will have five riders participating this weekend, as test rider Pol Espargaro joins as a wild-card entry.
"Head to Misano now, keeping in mind the upcoming test and Pol's wildcard entry, which will benefit us moving forward," stated team manager Francesco Guidotti.
The initial race of the Misano MotoGP series will commence with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, who currently sits in fifth place in the world championship standings.
Miller, possibly set to be announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider during the team's races in Italy, is currently in 15th place, just three points behind Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo.
