Bastianini Faces Fierce Competition for 2025 Ducati Seat Amid MotoGP Rivalry
Enea Bastianini acknowledges he's aware of the pace his competitors possess as they vie for his '25 Ducati spot.
"The challenge is real. Yet, I'm optimistic about retaining my position."
Enea Bastianini acknowledged that his competitors for the 2025 Ducati position are equally deserving.
Bastianini is currently in his sophomore year riding for Ducati's main team, yet he faces a significant risk of losing his spot on the roster come next season.
As Bastianini's current contract comes to an end, and given that his fellow team member and current champion Francesco Bagnaia has secured a multi-year agreement, Bastianini finds himself in a precarious position.
Jorge Martin from Pramac and Marc Marquez of Gresini seem more probable to don red uniforms in the upcoming season compared to Bastianini.
"Choosing is tough for Ducati since we're leading the top four in the championship," Bastianini remarked as he looked forward to the upcoming Catalunya MotoGP this weekend.
"Pecco is already under contract. Making a decision can be challenging."
Currently, my circumstances are quite good. The Ducati is incredibly speedy on the circuit and has shown significant enhancement. With each passing year, we make further advancements.
"I have the opportunity to be a team rider in the coming year. However, I'm also aware of the pace of fellow competitors such as Jorge and Marc."
"It's going to be challenging. I'm determined to remain here. However, we'll have to wait and see."
Should Ducati opt to replace Bastianini, they are aware of the risk of losing him for good.
In Barcelona, Bastianini was presented with two different choices.
He mentioned regarding Aprilia and KTM: "This might be a potential path moving forward."
"Over the past five years, they have made advancements and might be considered a possibility."
Aprilia is notably keen on Bastianini.
Bringing him on board would provide their brand, which is rooted in Italy, with an iconic Italian figure.
Aleix Espargaro's departure has opened up a spot, pushing Aprilia to seek a top-tier rider to fill the void left by their team leader.
A strong showing in Barcelona this weekend would come at an opportune moment for Bastianini.
He is currently tied for fourth place with Marquez in the MotoGP ranai-allcreator.com">kings, trailing the front-runner Martin by 40 points after participating in five races.
Bastianini achieved victory in Barcelona in the Moto3 category, yet in the top tier, his best finish has not exceeded 10th place.
In the previous year, he found himself entangled in a situation just before Bagnaia experienced an even more terrifying accident.
"Bastianini reflected, mentioning, 'I recall crashing in 2022, and then last year, I made a significant error at Turn 1.'"
"The competition is unusual due to the insufficient traction. Having a solid foundation in the setup is crucial for optimal performance."
