Aprilia Seeks Redemption at Misano: Clarity from Testing Fuels Hopes for Emilia Romagna GP
Aprilia riders gained insights for enhancements before second Misano MotoGP race
Aprilia test brings ‘clarity’ ahead of Misano MotoGP rematch
Maverick Vinales mentioned that the latest MotoGP test at Misano provided several insights for Aprilia as they prepare for the upcoming Emilia Romagna Grand Prix this weekend.
Aprilia has faced difficult recent rounds in MotoGP, with the performance of its RS-GP declining from the race-winning level it displayed earlier in the season.
Despite Aleix Espargaro managing to secure 10th place on the slippery Aragon track, the switch to the more grippy Misano circuit failed to improve Aprilia's performance. The team collectively earned a mere five points across all four of its riders.
However, the test conducted after the San Marino Grand Prix enabled Aprilia to identify multiple problems with its motorcycle, with the most significant issue being the inconsistency of the RS-GP’s engine braking.
"We're kicking off a fresh race weekend in Misano, and I believe it's a fantastic chance for us to get better," Vinales commented before the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix this weekend.
"From the initial race and the testing phase, we gained several insights. Now, it's our responsibility to improve further."
“We need to put in our best effort during each lap, every race, and every session.”
"Our priority is to make progress, and ending this weekend positively is crucial for us before we head to the races in Asia."
“My mindset is to make progress, prevent errors, and continue striving.”
He mentioned that the test had been quite intriguing as they tried to figure out the reasons behind their high speed in some instances and their difficulties in others.
"It appears we are beginning to realize that the main problem lies with the brakes."
"We definitely need to adjust the engine braking to achieve more consistency. Once I began braking effectively, the lap times improved significantly with ease. This is a very encouraging sign."
Aleix Espargaro shared the same feelings as his teammate, saying: "The initial race at Misano did not turn out as we expected."
“Undoubtedly, the rain had an impact on the lengthy race, yet we still didn’t achieve the speed we aimed for throughout the weekend.”
"While conducting the test, we identified the path we should take, and I am optimistic that this will lead to improvements."
“This track presents a challenge for our team, but we are prepared to give our all and compete for the crucial positions.”
