Alex Rins’ Remarkable Resilience: Overcoming Technical Troubles at Catalunya GP
Monster Yamaha identifies 'technical problem' affecting Alex Rins
"Rins' ability to finish the race, even with the issue, showcases his professionalism and unwavering resolve."
Massimo Meregalli, the team director for Monster Yamaha, commended Alex Rins for his 'dedication and resolve' following the revelation that a technical problem was behind his disappointing finish at the bottom in Catalunya on Sunday.
Rins found himself pushed off course, falling to 22nd place at the first turn of the grand prix, before making a comeback into the scoring positions.
However, he eventually dropped to 20th and final place at the finish line, trailing more than a minute behind the race victor Francesco Bagnaia and 40 seconds behind his teammate Fabio Quartararo.
"Rins mentioned post-race, 'My goal was to navigate as gently as I could to preserve the tyre, yet it seemed like things were functioning oddly. Both the motorcycle and the tyres were experiencing excessive spinning, something that I've never encountered to this extent before.'"
Before the upcoming Mugello race, Meregalli disclosed, "After the Catalan Grand Prix, we identified a technical malfunction that led to his last-place finish. His ability to cross the finish line, despite the setback, highlights his commitment and perseverance."
Rins and Quartararo are now optimistic that their prior private testing at Mugello, which involved experimenting with Yamaha's most recent aerodynamic package, will benefit them in the upcoming weekend.
"During the private trials at Mugello nearly a fortnight back, Rins mentioned, the fairing showed slight improvement in its performance."
At the Montmeló circuit, the aerodynamic bodywork didn't play a significant role in managing wheelies or cornering speed, but at Mugello, it will take on greater importance, and we've observed that the bodywork performed effectively.
"I'm optimistic about this weekend being favorable, and I'm hoping for improved traction on the track compared to last week."
Quartararo is also optimistic that the updated aerodynamics will offer greater advantages at the high-speed track in Italy.
"I believe the latest aerodynamic components we tested in Montmeló have shown improvement. Adapting to new aerodynamics takes a bit of time, and the weekend at the Catalan GP was an excellent beginning. Therefore, I'm optimistic we'll witness the advantages here in Mugello as well."
Yamaha racers are anticipated to experiment with additional technological advancements during Monday's official testing session.
