Alex Marquez Hits Back: Denies Deliberate Contact with Bagnaia in Aragon MotoGP Clash
Alex Marquez denies allegations: "I would never intentionally collide with another racer"
Alex Marquez dismisses claims that he 'intentionally' hit Francesco Bagnaia, asserting that such actions are neither in his nature nor in the spirit of the sport.
Alex Marquez has issued a response after coming across certain comments following Sunday’s Aragon MotoGP incident involving Francesco Bagnaia.
The two riders were caught in a serious crash as Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini competitor to secure third position, following an incident where Marquez veered off course.
The FIM Stewards concluded that no additional measures were required because they found that neither rider was mainly at fault.
However, Marquez appears displeased with Bagnaia's remarks, which imply that the Gresini racer maintained acceleration instead of steering clear of a collision.
"Right when I went into the next corner, which was turn 13, I could hear his engine revving up. He was accelerating. It was clear he was aiming to make contact," Bagnaia explained to MotoGP.com.
"I was interested in analyzing that data… He maintained 60 percent, with only 40 percent of the throttle open up until the moment of the crash. This behavior is quite unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
Marquez shared a post on social media on Monday.
"Having reviewed certain statements, I would like to clarify the following:"
"I would never intentionally collide with another rider, and I refuse to be accused of such behavior. It's not in my nature, nor is it a part of the essence of this sport."
"The most crucial aspect for me is the discussion I had with Pecco yesterday, and as far as I’m concerned, the matter is resolved."
"Now is the moment to relax and rejuvenate my body so I can be in peak condition for Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape without major injuries and are set to return to racing at Misano this weekend.
In the Aragon race, Marc Marquez, who is Alex's brother and teammate, secured the victory. Meanwhile, Jorge Martin finished in second place, which has extended his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
