Alex Marquez Denies Deliberate Crash Allegations Following Aragon MotoGP Incident with Francesco Bagnaia
Alex Marquez insists: “I would never intentionally collide with another rider”
Alex Marquez dismisses any claims that he 'intentionally' collided with Francesco Bagnaia, stating, 'It goes against my nature and the essence of this sport'
Alex Marquez has issued a statement following his review of some comments made after Sunday's Aragon MotoGP incident involving Francesco Bagnaia.
The duo were in a serious collision when Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini rider for the third position, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that 'no additional measures' were necessary because 'neither rider was found to be mainly at fault'.
However, Marquez appears displeased with Bagnaia's remarks implying that the Gresini rider maintained acceleration instead of steering clear of a collision.
Bagnaia told MotoGP.com that he could hear the other rider accelerating as soon as he approached the next corner, indicating that the rider was attempting to make contact.
"I intended to review the data… The rider kept the throttle at 60 percent, 40 percent open until the moment of the crash. This behavior seems quite unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
On Monday, Marquez shared a post on social media:
"Having reviewed several statements, I would like to clarify the following points:"
"I would never intentionally collide with another rider, and I refuse to be accused of such an act. It goes against my principles and the fundamental values of this sport."
"The conversation I had with Pecco yesterday is what matters most to me, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved."
"It's now time for me to take a break and recuperate so I can be in top shape for Misano."
Both Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape major injuries and are set to race again at Misano this weekend.
Alex's teammate and brother, Marc Marquez, clinched victory in the Aragon race. Meanwhile, Jorge Martin secured second place, which has extended his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
