Alex Marquez Denies Deliberate Collision with Bagnaia: ‘It’s Not in My DNA
Alex Marquez has firmly denied allegations that he intentionally caused a collision with Francesco Bagnaia, stating, "I would never purposely crash into another rider." Marquez emphasized that such actions are against his principles and contrary to the ethos of the sport.
Alex Marquez has issued a statement after coming across 'certain remarks' following his collision with Francesco Bagnaia during Sunday's Aragon MotoGP event.
The duo ended up in a serious crash as Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini rider for the third position, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that no additional measures were required because they found that neither rider was mainly at fault.
However, Marquez appears displeased with Bagnaia's remarks, which imply that the Gresini competitor maintained acceleration instead of steering clear of a collision.
"Upon entering the next corner, I heard his engine rev up. He was accelerating, clearly aiming for this contact," Bagnaia mentioned to MotoGP.com.
“I needed to examine the data… He kept the throttle open at 60 percent, 40 percent until he had the accident. I find this behavior quite unusual for a rider.”
On Monday, Marquez shared a post on social media:
"Having reviewed several statements, I would like to clarify the following points:"
"I would never intentionally collide with another racer, and I refuse to be accused of doing so. Such behavior goes against my principles and the very essence of this sport."
"The conversation I had with Pecco yesterday is what matters most to me, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved."
"Now I need to take some time to rest and rejuvenate my body so I can be in top form for the event in Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape without severe injuries and are set to return to racing at Misano this weekend.
Marc Marquez, Alex's brother and teammate, claimed victory in the Aragon race. However, Jorge Martin's second-place finish has extended his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
