Alex Marquez Defends Actions Post-Aragon Crash: ‘Deliberate Contact Not in My DNA
Alex Marquez replies: “I would never intentionally collide with another rider”
Alex Marquez denies any claims that he 'intentionally' collided with Francesco Bagnaia, stating, 'It goes against my principles and the principles of this sport.'
Alex Marquez issued a response after coming across certain remarks following his collision with Francesco Bagnaia at the Aragon MotoGP on Sunday.
The duo experienced a severe crash as Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini rider for the third position, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that there was no need for additional measures because they found that neither rider was mainly at fault.
However, Marquez appears displeased with remarks from Bagnaia implying that the Gresini rider did not attempt to avoid contact and instead kept the throttle engaged.
Bagnaia shared with MotoGP.com that he could hear the other rider accelerating as soon as he approached turn 13, indicating that the rider was attempting to make contact.
"I wanted to examine that information… He kept the throttle between 60 and 40 percent open until the moment of the crash. I find this very unusual for a rider."
On Monday, Marquez shared a post on social media:
"Having reviewed certain statements, I want to clarify the following points:"
"I would never intentionally collide with another rider, and I refuse to be accused of doing so. Such actions are against my principles and the principles of this sport."
"The conversation I had with Pecco yesterday was the most significant thing for me, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved."
"It's now time for me to take a break and rejuvenate so that I can be in top shape for Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to evade major injuries and are set to return to the track at Misano this weekend.
Marc Marquez, Alex's brother and teammate, secured victory in the Aragon race. Jorge Martin's second-place finish has given him a 23-point advantage over Bagnaia.
