Aleix Espargaro Reveals His MotoGP 2025 Dream Team: Jorge Martin and Pedro Acosta as the Perfect Blend of Present Prowess and Future Promise
Aleix Espargaro chooses his ideal MotoGP lineup: Tagging them as 'current and upcoming stars'
Aleix Espargaro names his top picks for the MotoGP roster in 2025.
Which two racers would Aleix Espargaro choose if he were in charge of a MotoGP team?
The query was directed at the Aprilia team's rider following Sunday's French Grand Prix.
Espargaro described his ideal team as a fusion of the current and upcoming stars of the top division.
"Espargaro posed the question, 'If you were in charge of a team today, whom would you choose?'"
"I mentioned, not due to the fact that my manager, Jorge [Martin] and Pedro [Acosta], represents them as well."
"In my view, Pedro represents the upcoming era in the MotoGP division. He's poised to be the top competitor over the next dozen years."
Currently, Jorge Martin stands out as the swiftest competitor on the track, undeniably.
"Thus, it would represent my ideal team."
Neither rider, including Espargaro, has announced their intentions for the upcoming season.
Up-and-coming talent Acosta is anticipated to make a move from GASGAS Tech3 up to the main Red Bull KTM squad, while Martin's next steps remain uncertain.
As the second-place finisher with Pramac Ducati in the previous season and the current frontrunner in the 2024 championship with a 38-point lead, Martin has indicated that he will consider joining other manufacturers if he does not secure the primary Ducati position next to Francesco Bagnaia for another year.
In a turn of events, Acosta experienced his initial failure to earn points in a MotoGP race, following a crash during Sunday's French MotoGP. The incident nearly resulted in Espargaro being taken down as well.
Luckily, Acosta's crashed bike managed to squeeze through a narrow opening between the #41 and VR46’s Fabio di Giannantonio, who were in third and fourth positions.
Espargaro beamed as he recounted, "They shared with me [the proximity of Acosta's motorcycle]." He conveyed to Albert [Valera, manager], 'he initiated braking too soon!' I responded, 'on the contrary, I applied the brakes extremely late!'
"I believe Diggia was positioned centrally, and perhaps he slowed down a bit sooner. However, I'm not certain. I haven't watched a replay so far!"
Espargaro, who has clinched three MotoGP victories with Aprilia and is the most senior competitor at age 34, is contemplating a move to focus on test riding and wildcard entries for the team in the upcoming season or to persist in his full-time racing career.
