2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Review: An Electric Stallion Unbridled
Evaluation: The 2024 model of Ford's Mustang Mach-E GT is electrifying the scene
As the sole EV in Ford's lineup without a petrol counterpart, the Mach-E unmistakably retains its Mustang heritage, ensuring that both the driver and onlookers recognize its classic lineage.
The 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT sports distinctive design elements and the iconic Mustang emblems, exuding a bold muscle car charm. As I opt for the vehicle's high-performance setting, aptly named Unbridle, it amplifies this effect. Suddenly, a simulated engine noise interrupts our chat with a jarring effect akin to a needle scratching across a vinyl record.
I inquire with my driving companion, "Are you fond of horses?"
The Mach-E, bearing the Mustang name, certainly gains notoriety, yet its most distinguished features have always been distinctly separate from the traditional Mustang range.
Apart from the Chevy Blazer EV and Equinox EV, all other competitors significantly differ from their internal combustion engine counterparts.
2024 Model of the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT
The Mach-E stands out as a pioneer among the early wave of electric compact crossover SUVs, known for its sleek, sporty design and modern, high-tech features. It began reaching customers in late 2020, during a time when the only other vehicle in its class being shipped was the Tesla Model Y, and before the market introduction of competitors like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, and Nissan Ariya.
The Mach-E GT may not be designed for the track in the same way the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is, but a range of technical tweaks and clever enhancements have improved its performance on winding country roads, according to a recent test drive by Green Car Reports. On the other hand, the upcoming 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally, which is optimized for off-road excitement, promises to deliver adrenaline-pumping action on a closed course. Stay tuned for an upcoming review of this model on our sister site, Motor Authority.
The 2024 Mach-E GT excels in distance capabilities among high-performance crossover vehicles. In official EPA assessments, it surpasses the range of the Tesla Model Y Performance. Additionally, it outperforms the ai-allcreator.com">Kia EV6 GT and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N by a considerable margin, with those models achieving 206 and 221 miles respectively.
The Mach-E GT distinguishes itself not merely through performance but also by housing a battery that surpasses its competitors in size. Equipped with a 91-kwh (usable) Extended Range battery, it boasts an EPA range rating of 280 miles. Additionally, the Mach-E Select and Premium variants offer an option for a 72-kwh Standard Range battery, which delivers a range of 230 miles on models with all-wheel drive and 250 miles on those with rear-wheel drive.

Beyond the GT model, the Mach-E continues to impress in terms of distance capabilities. Equipped with the Extended Range package, it can achieve up to 320 miles on a single charge with the rear-wheel drive option, and 300 miles with the all-wheel drive configuration. This surpasses the range of both the Ioniq 5 and EV6, although it should be noted this is with a larger battery option. Additionally, all versions of the Mach-E now have access to the Tesla Supercharger stations, thanks to a complimentary adapter provided by Ford known as the NACS. Ford has also integrated these charging locations into its FordPass app, which assists drivers in locating charging points and planning their routes.
Mach-E models equipped with the Standard Range battery feature a distinct battery composition and layout. This more compact version contains 108 LFP (lithium-iron-phosphate) cells in contrast to the 376 cells found in the Extended Range variant.
Monitoring the car's onboard computer, I noted an energy consumption of 2.8 miles per ai-allcreator.com">kilowatt-hour over a few hours. This was during a mix of highway driving, quick-paced rural routes, and city traffic, all the while utilizing the air conditioning for optimal comfort since the temperatures were in the 60s. Additionally, I wasn't particularly focusing on driving efficiently. This suggests that the vehicle could realistically travel about 250 miles on a full charge under these conditions.
The 2024 Mach-E GT's capabilities: Pleasing and seamless on rural routes
With a robust 480 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque, the latest Mach-E GT can reach 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds. Choose the Performance Upgrade for an additional $745 (as was the case with the model I tested—priced at $995 if you exclude the wheel and tire enhancement), and you'll see an increase in torque to 700 lb-ft and a reduced 0-60 mph sprint time of 3.3 seconds. With such a marginal cost difference, it seems like a no-brainer.

Once you opt for the enhanced version, the 2024 Mach-E leverages an upgrade to an advanced, more potent motor at the rear. This component is the same one employed in the F-150 Lightning, bearing an identical Ford-manufactured part number. Moreover, Ford intends to integrate this motor more extensively into upcoming electric vehicles.
Currently, Ford is focusing on manufacturing just the back motor in-house. However, for the Mach-E model, they will still rely on external suppliers to provide the inverter for this motor, as well as the motors located at the front of the vehicle.
The Mach-E has yet to include a heat pump; however, Ford has simplified its cooling system from three circuits to two main ones in addition to climate control. Ling Gong, who is both a product development engineer and a specialist in EV energy management at Ford, mentioned that they have adjusted the gear ratio to 9.7:1 from the earlier 9.0:1 to better complement the features of the updated motor. Moreover, the vehicle now sports aerodynamic wheels, which have enhanced the car's drag coefficient by approximately 0.007.
Updates to the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E
The noise generated by the propulsion system seems to detract from the extensive efforts of the development and engineering teams to enhance the Mach-E's performance and to eliminate noise from the wind, road, and components such as the gear. However, once you disable the additional noise feature, which is advisable, the Mustang Mach-E GT exudes a sense of European luxury.
The enhanced feeling of sophistication in the vehicle is achieved through the implementation of a magnetic damping system, which is now standard in all GT models. This system facilitates varied adjustments across the three driving modes: Whisper, Engage, and Unbridle.

The Mach-E features a suspension system that operates independently on all four wheels, utilizing struts at the front and a multilink setup at the rear, each enhanced by a hollow stabilizer bar.
Every Mach-E model comes equipped with disc brakes on all four wheels. The GT model is outfitted with bigger brake discs, and the strength of the regenerative braking system differs among the driving modes. There are no paddles on the steering wheel for manual control, but the one-pedal driving feature increases regenerative braking to a level where using the brake pedal becomes almost unnecessary, except when completing a full stop. The Mach-E's auto-hold function can be a bit abrupt during parking maneuvers, so it's advisable to deactivate it if you're simply trying to nudge forward into a spot.

The Mach-E largely succeeds in concealing its heft, but when navigating uneven, bumpy rural roads, it becomes apparent that the GT model tips the scales at just under 5,000 pounds (specifically, 4,952 pounds).
The design and storage capacity of the Mach-E remain unchanged, maintaining ample room in the rear seats and a spacious front trunk equipped with a drainage hole (perfect for tailgate parties!). The GT versions now come with Ford Performance front seats, which provide excellent lumbar and leg support while still being comfortably roomy at the sides. Like with other Mach-E models, as someone taller, I found myself wanting the ability to adjust the front seats' hip point down by an inch or two for a more comfortable fit and to enhance the vehicle's balance during maneuvers.

The Mustang Mach-E GT begins at a price point of $55,890, with the cost covering delivery fees. It comes well-equipped with a range of standard features that were already present in the Premium model, such as the 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen high-quality audio system (complete with a subwoofer), mood lighting within the cabin, front seats that are heated, a steering wheel that also offers heating, customizable memory options, and a power-operated rear door. In addition, this model enhances its interior with an aluminum trim on the instrument panel and decorative stitching for added flair.
The latest version of Ford's BlueCruise assistance feature is priced at $2,100 for a three-year period and offers enhanced lane positioning and more refined automatic lane shifts, which can cover several lanes if necessary. Additional features on the vehicle I tested were the expansive fixed-glass sunroof and wheels painted in bronze, bringing the total cost to approximately $61,000.
2024 Model of Ford's Mustang Mach-E GT
Every model of the Mustang Mach-E will feature the latest Sync 4 infotainment system by Ford, which includes a large 15.5-inch touchscreen designed with a nearly flat menu interface. In addition, there's a customizable 10.2-inch display for the driver's instruments, along with the convenience of wireless charging for phones and USB ports in both the front and back.
Certainly, the Mach-E maintains a strong connection to its Mustang heritage; regardless of opinions, it embodies a captivating character and stands as a quality electric vehicle, thanks to the considerable power under and outside its hood.
