Zarco Surprised by Marquez’s Ducati Adaptation Pace, Highlights Bagnaia’s Superior Handling
Johann Zarco anticipated Marc Marquez to dominate at Ducati
Johann Zarco remarked, "I assumed he’d effortlessly outperform everyone, but it turned out Pecco proved he’s the top Ducati rider."
Johann Zarco has acknowledged that Marc Marquez, a six-time MotoGP champion, is taking more time than anticipated to adjust to the Ducati.
Marquez continues to be a major contender for the championship, trailing behind Jorge Martin and Francesco Bagnaia, who are both utilizing the GP24 motorcycle, whereas Marquez is on the GP23, the bike that clinched the championship last year.
Marquez, after initially taking some time to adjust to the Ducati, has been outstanding throughout much of the season.
However, it has yet to lead to a win, something that took Zarco by surprise.
In a conversation with GPOne, Zarco commented, "Honestly, I anticipated he would perform better initially, but then it became apparent that he required some time to adjust.
"I expected him to soar ahead, dominating his rivals, yet Pecco demonstrated once again that he's the top performer when it comes to mastering the Ducati.
"He performs in a very neat and exact manner. Observing Marc's necessity to adjust reassures me because it shows that even the most accomplished [cyclist] must do so, albeit more swiftly than myself.
"This inspires me and helps me recognize that there's something to learn with every bicycle."
Zarco, after transitioning from Ducati to Honda in an effort to prolong his MotoGP career, has directly observed the superiority of the Desmosedici in comparison to the underperforming Honda.
However, this has not deterred the rider from France in his desire to make a comeback with the brand from Japan.
Honda is currently facing challenges in the World Superbike Championship, yet Zarco, who is slated to participate in this year's Suzuka 8 Hours race for Honda, is committed to continuing his career in MotoGP for several more years.
In response to inquiries about a potential move to WorldSBK, Zarco stated, "No, I thoroughly enjoy participating in MotoGP. The competition is incredibly intense in MotoGP, which thrills me and motivates me to keep improving as a rider.
"For me, it continues to be 'the category,' and it's the one I belong to."
