Yuki Tsunoda Stays Loyal to VCARB Amid Interest from Multiple F1 Teams for 2025 Season
Yuki Tsunoda confirms Red Bull remains his top choice, disclosing that several teams expressed interest before he decided to stay with VCARB.
Yuki Tsunoda disclosed that before making his decision to stick with VCARB for the 2025 Formula 1 season, a few teams had expressed interest in him.
Tsunoda has had a successful season with VCARB, typically surpassing his experienced teammate Daniel Ricciardo in performance.
Despite his strong performance in the earlier part of the year, Tsunoda was not considered a likely candidate to take over Sergio Perez's spot at Red Bull.
It's been said that Sauber/Audi showed interest in Tsunoda as they looked into alternatives in case Carlos Sainz wasn't available.
During the most recent episode of the Beyond the Grid podcast, Tsunoda shared his thoughts on his remarkable season to date.
"I suppose I'll just continue with what I've been doing. I began to demonstrate my worth right from the start of the season," he remarked.
Several teams approached me to discuss various strategies, something that I didn't experience in my first year or even last year. It's crucial for me to maintain steady performance to meet expectations.
"Up until now, I've managed to accomplish this, and this year marks the first time I'm truly demonstrating my capabilities and consistently delivering strong performances. I'm aware there are many areas I can still enhance."
"There's much more I have to offer. I just need to demonstrate to all the team leaders and each team that I'm a skilled driver capable of accomplishing great things."
Despite being passed over once more by Red Bull, Tsunoda maintains that his "primary focus" remains the Milton Keynes team.
"He emphasized that Red Bull Racing is his top focus," he continued. "Ever since I entered F1, it's been a goal of mine. At the moment, the car is among the quickest out there. Though, at this point, McLaren might just have a slight edge in speed.
"I'm eager to get behind the wheel of their car someday and demonstrate my capability to secure a position within the top four, top three, top two, or beyond. Meanwhile, if that goal proves unattainable, or perhaps they're content with their current drivers.
"Additionally, I aim to consistently rank within the top five at some point. I'm hopeful that the VCARB will reach that level. We've made significant progress and have advanced considerably. I'm doing my best to support them in every way I can."
Tsunoda might emerge as a prospective candidate for Aston Martin down the line, especially considering their switch to Honda power in 2026.
The driver from Japan acknowledged that he might think about it if another favorable chance presents itself.
"Nevertheless, should there be another team willing or capable of aligning with my perspective or their own, why not consider it? However, my current priority is to concentrate on my responsibilities. My aim is to continue achieving outcomes that will astonish everyone," he finished.
