It's a foggy November dawn near Copenhagen when I activate the ignition of the XC90 plug-in hybrid and embark on a route charted by Google Maps. I'm crossing the combined Øresund bridge and tunnel, heading into the southern part of Sweden. My goal is to discover whether the latest version of the XC90 offers any unexpected features, particularly for someone with my driving habits, which consist mainly of brief local trips interspersed with the occasional lengthy journey, perhaps once a month or even less frequently.

For those who prefer a traditional setup without the need for a plug-in, the mid-2025 model of the XC90 still provides an option of a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that delivers 247 horsepower, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and a default all-wheel-drive system. An enhanced version of this engine offers both turbo and supercharge capabilities, producing a more robust 310 horsepower. Both versions incorporate mild-hybrid technology for increased fuel efficiency. Initially, I took the standard version for a spin, decked out in the Ultra trim that boasted a chic white wood finish and an impressive denim-blue woven fabric interior. I effortlessly covered distance across the Swedish countryside in this model, which performed flawlessly despite being equipped with sizable 21-inch wheels and lacking the optional air suspension system.

The plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) is a better match for my regular driving needs, particularly because I can access free charging at a slow pace just a short five-minute stroll away. It's clear why Volvo refers to the XC90 T8 as their "plan B." In addition to the supercharged turbocharged 4-cylinder engine found in other models, the T8 includes a 18.8-kWh lithium-ion battery, of which 14.7 kWh is effectively usable. This battery is identical to those used across many of Volvo's newly updated plug-in hybrids. Combined with the engine, the extra 145 horsepower and 228 pound-feet of torque give the vehicle a combined output of 455 horsepower and 523 pound-feet of torque, enabling this hefty SUV, which weighs close to 5,000 pounds, to accelerate to 60 mph in just 5.0 seconds. It also has a commendable range of 33 miles on electric power alone, according to EPA estimates.

I can drive for half a week on electricity alone, and currently, it's taking me through the southern regions of Sweden, a delight for anyone with an interest in linguistics due to the unique accents found there. While the engine remains the same, the upgraded cabin now features heavy-duty soundproofing glass and materials that minimize the noise from outside. This creates the perfect environment to appreciate the top tracks from the Bowers & Wilkins sound system, alongside the tunes of Fleetwood Mac.

The XC90 PHEV's integrated 6.4-kw charger allows it to fully charge its battery in roughly five hours when using a Level 2 charging station. Additionally, it has the capability to save battery life for future use by switching between different driving modes. Currently, there is no information about the introduction of a Tesla-based NACS charging port, which would significantly increase the number of charging facilities in my area. For myself and numerous other motorists, the XC90 PHEV serves effectively as a solely electric vehicle.

Despite having a robust 455 horsepower, the XC90 doesn't push boundaries. It's discernibly fast, but due to its significant heft and a finely-tuned 8-speed automatic transmission, the power surge is steady and gradual, with the electric battery compensating for any potential turbo lag-induced torque dips. The strength is there, but it's not overpowering, and the power shifts are noticeably smoother. Engaging the "B" drive mode increases regenerative braking, yet it doesn't allow for abandoning the brake pedal altogether for everyday driving, unlike the one-pedal operation you might find in a fully electric vehicle.

When it comes to the driving experience, opting for the XC90's air-suspension option pays off immediately and significantly. The standard vehicle features a multi-link front and integral-link-and-leaf rear suspension, which sometimes struggled on the rough road surfaces I encountered. However, the air suspension smoothed out these issues entirely, performing admirably even with winter tires, which were mounted in preparation for harsher weather. This SUV boasts a ground clearance between 8.1 and 8.5 inches and possesses a towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds. However, in this region of the Baltics, challenging terrain is typically limited to muddy tracks on country farms.

The XC90 is ideally suited for highway driving. Its gentle steering, which provides minimal response, combined with its ability to effortlessly absorb bumps and irregularities in the road, equips the XC90 with a distinct advantage—superior ride comfort and stability on twisty routes. Its well-tuned suspension system outperforms even the more intricate systems found in large SUVs from Mercedes and BMW, with their active anti-roll damping technology appearing unnecessarily complex by comparison.

The vehicle continues to offer seating arrangements for either seven occupants with a second-row bench or a six-seat layout featuring individual captain's chairs in place of the bench.

Volvo illuminates the interior with a wide glass roof, ensuring that travelers are at ease for extended trips with its top-tier seating. The driver and passenger seats come equipped with deep cushioning, optional ventilation and massage features, and even at the standard level, the firmness of the cushions is nearly flawless. The brand's Nordico man-made leather features a quilted design for aesthetics, yet the reclaimed fabric in the standard model I tested had an even more appealing look—reminiscent of the denim from an aged, well-loved pair of jeans discovered on Japanese eBay.

The individuals sitting in the front will notice a redesigned center console equipped with a wireless charging pad for phones at the front, along with a pair of concealable cupholders beneath a sliding cover. Those seated in the second-row captain's chairs are provided with cupholders, seat warming features, and a pathway leading to the third-row seating—although, if they're of medium build or larger, they might want to reconsider reaching the backmost area.

The space is slightly inadequate for tall individuals to be comfortable in both the second and third rows simultaneously, with the leg space measuring 36.6 inches and 31.9 inches respectively. Every XC90 model comes with three rows of seating, however, the last two rows can be collapsed to increase the storage area from a mere 9.3 cubic feet when filled to the window level behind the third row, to a substantial 70.8 cubic feet behind the driver's and passenger's seat, akin to a Swedish family moving westward, carrying all their belongings.

From the helm of a Volvo, the car's robust safety mechanisms have been enhanced to include vocal alerts when exceeding speed limits, which the driver can easily deactivate with a simple touch on the left side of the steering wheel. Additionally, the vehicle comes equipped with visual parking assistance for aligning in parallel spaces and maintains its standard feature of adaptive cruise control paired with the Drive Pilot feature for hands-free navigation. The infotainment system has undergone a revamp, replacing the old Sensus OS and its heat-sensitive screen with a more traditional touch-responsive display that integrates Google's services and is specifically tailored for the new EX90 electric vehicle model. While it's powered by Google's platform, the system still supports Apple CarPlay and is capable of receiving updates wirelessly.

The starting price for the refreshed XC90 is set at $59,745, which includes a range of standard features such as a mild-hybrid turbocharged four-cylinder engine, all-wheel-drive, seven-person seating capacity, a panoramic sunroof, an automatic rear hatch, 20-inch rims, both front and back parking assist systems, quilt-patterned Nordico man-made leather seats, heated seats in the front, a dashboard with stitching details, an Orrefors crystal gear selector, adjustable front seats, a 220-watt sound system, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot information system, active steering assistance, and persistent speed limit notifications. Opting for a six-seater configuration will cost an additional $500 for any variant.

The XC90 Plus, priced at $63,485, includes amenities such as a booster seat in the second row, a 360-degree camera setup, 21-inch rims, assisted parking for parallel spots, soundproof glass, and warming features for the back seats. At a higher price point of $68,245, the XC90 Ultra offers additional luxuries including ventilated front seats upholstered in nappa leather, adjustable lumbar support for the front seats, a Harman Kardon sound system, adjustable power side supports and extended cushions for the front seats, along with a display projected onto the windshield.

Choices are limited to: front seats with massage function, 22-inch rims, the Bowers & Wilkins audio system, the pneumatic suspension, and the stylish navy herringbone-patterned seat covers.

Enhancements to the turbo-4 with supercharger result in a starting cost of $64,645 for the Core model, $67,445 for the Plus variant, and $71,845 for the Ultra edition. As for the T8 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle, the Core is priced at $74,295, the Plus at $77,095, and the Ultra carries a price tag of $81,495.

The 2025.5 version of the XC90, sharing some features with the 2025 model, will make its debut in dealer galleries at the beginning of 2025. Undoubtedly, it serves as a contingency for the upcoming electric vehicle era. However, for numerous motorists, this alternative option surpasses nearly all others.

The original discovery of the patent by Motor1 points to a 2023 filing that aims to enhance the existing drive-unit configuration. This current system employs dual coaxial planetary gearsets to effectively decrease the speed from the motor to the wheels, ensuring the mechanism remains space-efficient.

The text outlines a mechanism involving at least one set of planetary gears that enables the transition between two different gear ratios. This is accomplished through gears with conical surfaces and a series of unidirectional clutches that facilitate the shift from one ratio to another.

Electric vehicles typically operate with a single-speed gearbox, although the idea of incorporating multi-speed transmissions has been debated for a while. The initial design for the Tesla Roadster included a 2-speed transmission, however, due to issues with the prototypes not being able to manage the engine's abundant torque, it was replaced with a constant reduction gear system.

In their patent submission, Lucid echoes previous clarifications given to Green Car Reports by CEO and CTO Peter Rawlinson regarding their decision to not implement a multi-speed gearbox. The document's writers outlined that the transmission systems present in some electric vehicles are bulky, intricate systems that could potentially reduce efficiency, provide inadequate torque at the outset, and exert an undue amount of inertia on the drivetrain, potentially causing an abrupt and uncomfortable transition during gear shifts.

In the event that this particular element can be integrated without occupying initial room or compromising performance, and it enables the use of more compact and lighter engines, then combining it with Lucid's future Atlas drive system might result in saved expenses and reduced weight. However, there has been no official statement from the company linking this patent to the Atlas project.

The company has now begun offering access to its Adventure Network direct current rapid-charging locations to vehicles beyond its own brand.

Rivian has announced the launch of its new Adventure Network locations, starting with the inaugural site that commenced operations on Thursday in Joshua Tree, California. The company anticipates expanding this network to several other states including Texas, Colorado, Illinois, Montana, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New York within the next year.

These locations will provide rapid DC charging with a capability of up to 900 volts, initially utilizing the Combined Charging Standard (CCS) connectors. Starting December 10th, those who own a Nissan Ariya will have the capability to power up their EVs at Tesla's Supercharger locations, as per the Wednesday announcement from the car manufacturer.

Nissan has announced that beginning in 2025, its new electric vehicles in the U.S. will come equipped with NACS ports. However, current models won't be left out as they can still use Supercharger stations with the help of a $235 adapter, which customers can purchase immediately, according to Nissan.

Nissan announced that its Nissan Energy Charging Network platform will now include access to 17,800 Supercharger locations. When German tourists think of quintessentially Italian vehicles, the Fiat 500 and its successors like the Uno and Panda come to mind, as does the Vespa scooter. Derived from the Vespa is the compact cargo trike, known as the Ape, meaning "bee" in German. However, after more than 70 years, the tiny transporter will cease production and sales in its homeland.

A year following the launch of the Vespa, which translates to 'wasp' in Italian, the tri-wheel transporter range was introduced to aid in Italy's reconstruction efforts. The original model of the Ape from 1947 essentially resembled a Vespa equipped with a cargo bed and a carrying capacity of 200 kilograms. Underneath the seat of the Ape A, there was a 125 cc Vespa engine.

Introduced in 1953, the Ape B featured a 150 cc engine and underwent minor updates until it ceased production in 1956. That same year marked the debut of the Ape C, notable for being the first model with an enclosed cab. The uncommon Pentaro, which emerged in 1960, was a five-wheeled variant of the Ape C designed like a tractor-trailer with an increased load capacity.

In 1969, the Ape 50 made its debut, designed specifically for light transport tasks, with a loading capacity of 200 kilograms and equipped with a cabin. This model marked the first in the Ape series to fall under the moped category. In Italy, individuals as young as 14 can operate it with a Class AM driver's license, and it has seating for just one person, the driver. By 1971, the Ape Car was introduced, featuring a reasonably comfortable cabin, a motor with a displacement of 218.9 cubic centimeters, and a carrying capacity of 550 kilograms as a transporter, which extends to 612 kilograms when counting the loading area.

To summarize the past events briefly, now let's look ahead. According to the Italian news agency ANSA, the future lies in India. After 76 years of production in Italy, the manufacturing will be relocated there. Due to the European Union's new, stricter emission and safety regulations, the Ape will now be produced exclusively for the Indian and African markets, insider sources from the industrial group report. The facility in Pontedera will be converted to manufacture the electric Porter small commercial vehicle.

According to ANSA, the decision was communicated to the trade unions in recent days, who were not caught off guard by the news. "Beyond the sentimental attachment to the countryside, this move is somewhat unavoidable. The Ape is a Euro 4 two-stroke vehicle, and upgrading to a Euro 5 two-stroke would be a complex issue from an engineering perspective. It would require altering the engine, at which point it would no longer be the Ape," Angelo Capone, secretary of FIOM Pisa, is quoted as saying.

Samuele Nacci of UILM expresses that the current regulations leave no room for production in Italy. He laments the loss of a piece of Pontedera's history as the Ape manufacturing moves to factories abroad. He suggests that certain regulations might have been implemented hastily, pointing out a discrepancy where Europe seems to be the only one concerned about environmental pollution, while it appears to be of little concern to the rest of the world.

Rumors suggest that in addition to the required transition to the Euro 5 standard, airbags might also become a prerequisite for continuing to sell the Ape in Europe. In Germany, the Ape has not been available for some time, with consumers instead directed towards the four-wheeled Porter. In Italy, the Ape 50 remains on the market, with prices starting at 7,140 euros.

While there are no official details yet, it's expected that this version will feature the dual electric motor setup from the Ioniq 5 N, boasting over 650 horsepower and a decidedly aggressive design.

The head of Mazda has indicated that the prospect of a rotary sports car is becoming increasingly likely. "Our commitment to making this happen remains strong." It has been just over a year since Mazda hinted at the revival of the RX model. This legendary sports car was envisioned as a sleek coupe powered by a twin-rotor rotary engine. Since the debut of this stunning concept at the Japan Mobility Show, the company has repeatedly suggested that the vehicle is slated for production.

During a recent conversation with Automotive News, the company's head suggested that the two-seater sports car is becoming a reality. Masahiro Moro, the CEO and President of Mazda, indicated that progress is being made on the production model of the Iconic SP.

The goal is to launch a commercial version: "Our commitment to making this happen remains strong, and we are methodically working towards it." While this doesn't guarantee the RX's return, it's essentially the next best thing. We just have to wait for the production car, which might end up being smaller than the concept.

Mazda's Pioneering SP Design

Following the unveiling of the design, lead designer Masashi Nakayama hinted that the car could potentially be scaled down to dimensions similar to those of the Miata. This has sparked discussions that the SP could potentially preview the upcoming fifth iteration of the MX-5 rather than signaling a comeback of the RX series. It remains uncertain whether this rotary sports car will position itself above the Miata in the lineup or completely take its place.

Just to recap, the design measured 4,180 millimeters in length, 1,850 millimeters in width, and 1,150 millimeters in height, with a wheelbase stretching 2,590 millimeters. The vehicle's mass, totaling 1,450 kilograms, was distributed almost evenly between the front and rear axles, resulting in an almost perfect balance of weight.

Masahiro Moro has confirmed that Mazda is planning a dual-rotor rotary engine for the United States market. He pointed out that Americans desire more power than what the single-rotor rotary in the MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV currently offers. However, similar to the crossover, in the sports car concept, the rotary engine doesn't directly power the wheels. In other words, the unit isn't mechanically linked to the wheels. Instead, it serves as a generator that produces energy for a battery, which in turn powers an electric motor.

Mazda has not disclosed the displacement of the rotary engine, however, the MX-30 R-EV is equipped with a single-rotor Wankel engine of 830 cubic centimeters, delivering 75 horsepower. The Iconic SP concept boasted 365 horsepower, a leap too significant for a successor to the MX-5. Logic suggests that a new RX model might be in the works instead. Should this be accurate, the forthcoming MX-5 will be powered by the recently revealed Skyactiv-Z engine.

Just to recap: In February 2024, Mazda revived its rotary division with the ambition to create "appealing vehicles that captivate our customers with our challenger spirit". A fresh RX model would definitely align with this vision. The "RE Development Group", made up of 36 engineers, signifies the first instance since 2018 that the Japanese car maker has dedicated a team solely to rotary engine development.

The final model of the RX series rolled off the production line in 2012 with the completion of the RX-8 Spirit R, designed specifically for the local market. If a new model were to be released, it would mark Mazda's 13th vehicle powered by a rotary engine. Let's keep our fingers crossed that the number 13 doesn't bring any bad luck.

Following Skoda's 9,000-euro mini SUV featuring ventilated seats and Suzuki's secure sedan priced at 8,000 euros, Honda is now introducing the remarkably economical Amaze. Similar to the previous two vehicles, it's targeted at the Indian market, where there's a high demand for budget-friendly cars – a sentiment that's shared by many even outside of India.

How affordable is the Honda for the Indian market? The new compact sedan has a starting price of approximately 9,000 Euros. It's the white car showcased in the images, equipped with 14-inch steel wheels. Even the top-of-the-line model, displayed in the gallery with a dark brown finish and 15-inch wheels, is priced at just about 12,300 Euros.

2025 Honda Amaze

This vehicle's price point is very similar to the least expensive Dacia Sandero, which now starts at €12,400 in Germany. As you may notice, the Honda's design isn't its most impressive feature. This is often the result with trying to adapt a sedan-like shape to a smaller car. Measuring at 3,995 millimeters in length, the Amaze falls into the same class as the VW Polo and Opel Corsa.

Despite being labeled as a third-generation model, the latest Amaze is essentially a revamped iteration of its predecessor. It boasts a more contemporary appearance and includes features that are somewhat surprising for a vehicle of its size. The enhancements span from LED lighting at both ends to an automatic climate control system. In the Indian market, Honda offers this vehicle with the convenience of a wireless charging pad and even an air purification filter (PM 2.5).

Despite its affordability, the Amaze doesn’t compromise on safety features. Honda has incorporated a plethora of technology into this compact sedan, ranging from side cameras and a lane-keeping assistant to an adaptive cruise control and hill start assist. It's reported that there are more than 28 active and passive safety features included. Additional amenities like remote engine start, power-folding side mirrors, and rear ventilation ducts are also part of the package.

In Europe, there's a comparable situation with Dacia, Renault's budget-friendly subsidiary, garnering a lot of favor. The Sandero, a particular favorite of James May, is poised to potentially become the top-selling car by 2024 in that region.

Mr. Sbarro obtained the chassis of a Ferrari 308 and trimmed down the frame to a noticeably smaller size to accommodate the fiberglass body that he intended to place over it. This body was inspired by the predecessor of the Super Eight, which was the Super Twelve in 1982. Indeed, it's as wild as it seems. The Super Twelve featured two Kawasaki engines linked together to form a straight twelve-cylinder engine. Astonishing, indeed.

In contrast, this almost seems less striking. Tucked away in the rear of the compact Sbarro is the 2.9-liter V8 engine from the Ferrari 308, which curiously reminds one of the exceptional Renault Clio V6 that wouldn't appear until 17 years later, featuring dual overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, and Bosch fuel injection. The power output stands at 240 horsepower, and while you might have anticipated a higher number, let's be realistic – we're talking about a vehicle that's barely three meters in length.

In addition, we're looking at a vehicle equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive, which should keep things interesting. The Super Eight's design is fantastic, with a front that resembles a Seat Ibiza and a rear that has hints of the Renault 5 Turbo. From the side, there's a touch of the Ferrari Testarossa (or perhaps the König Mercedes 560 SEL), with two doors, four exhaust pipes, and striking 15-inch BBS wheels.

Behind this lies the ventilated brakes of the 308, as well as its suspension system and design. Inside, one is greeted by a lavish, luxurious interior that epitomizes the unmatched 1980s aesthetic, featuring an expanse of brown leather.

The present owner has had the Sbarro for four years. Prior to that, it was part of a Swiss collection and before that, it resided in Sbarro's own museum. The unique vehicle is now up for auction on the online platform Bring a Trailer, complete with Dutch registration documents. It has clocked just under 30,000 kilometers.

Prices are really taking off now. As of the time this piece is being released, the auction will conclude in six days. The current bid stands at 80,000 US dollars, which is roughly 75,700 Euros. It's expected to climb significantly higher… and quite justifiably so.

Peugeot's Landtrek, first introduced in 2020, carries on the brand's rich legacy of pickup trucks – from the 1938 model 202, through the 1960s model 404, to the 1970s model 504. The latter was produced as a pickup in Nigeria until 2005, highlighting its significance on the African continent.

Consequently, the Landtrek has been introduced, which shares its platform with the Changan Kaicene F70, manufactured by the Chinese firm Shenzhen Baoneng Motor. The Landtrek competes in the one-ton pickup truck category, a segment that sees global annual sales of 2.5 million units. It is marketed in approximately 40 countries, predominantly in Africa, the Middle East, and South America.

Peugeot offers a wide range of engines, three basic layouts (cabin, single cabin, or double cabin chassis), and models suited for both professional and multi-purpose use (work and leisure). Peugeot has now updated the Landtrek. The revision includes a new and highly efficient diesel engine delivering 147 kW (200 horsepower) along with various upgrades in design and technology.

The latest Landtrek model boasts a reimagined vertical radiator grille that proudly displays the brand's updated logo at its center. This grille is enhanced with LED daytime running lights, featuring the brand's signature claw design. The vehicle's design emphasizes efficiency and sturdiness, highlighted by an augmented lower front section and fresh, glossy black surrounds for the fog lights.

The redesigned rear bumper merges aesthetics and safety. The back of the vehicle gets a contemporary update with a fresh Peugeot emblem, set against the backdrop of 3D LED taillights. In terms of size, the Landtrek measures up well within its segment: the double cab variant stretches 5.33 meters, while the single cab version extends slightly longer to 5.39 meters, with both variants sharing a width of 1.92 meters.

The cargo bed is designed with a width of 1.22 meters between the wheel arches, accommodating two standard European pallets in the dual cab setup, which measures 1.63 meters by 1.60 meters with a depth of 500 millimeters. In the single cab configuration, the space expands to 2.43 meters in length and can fit three European pallets, maintaining the same width and depth.

The interior layout of the new Landtrek is highlighted by a spacious center console and a prominent 10-inch HD touchscreen at its heart. Directly below this central display, the familiar "Toggle Switches" allow for quick interaction with key features. Additionally, there's a fresh addition with a digital 7-inch instrument cluster.

At the front, there is an option for either two individual seats with a center armrest or a three-seater Multiflex bench. The central part of this bench is designed to fold down, creating either an armrest or a shelf. Additionally, both the middle and passenger sections can be folded down to accommodate items weighing up to 75 kg.

The back seat's fold-down feature allows for the seat area to be split in a 60/40 ratio or completely at 100 percent. Once folded down, the backrests can support additional cargo. The interior cabin of the vehicle provides a width of 1.55 meters in the second row and a minimum legroom of 50 mm. The cabin is equipped with seven grab handles for easy accessibility. For storing small items, there's a convenient 27-liter storage space available.

The Peugeot Landtrek comes equipped with a four-cylinder turbo diesel engine, boasting a capacity of 2,184 cc and delivering 147 kW (200 hp) along with a torque of 450 Nm. This new engine pairs seamlessly with the latest EAT8 eight-speed automatic transmission. The transmission is designed with an electronic control system that simplifies gear selection and manages the engine's torque more efficiently. Additionally, a six-speed manual transmission option is also available for this new engine.

The launch of the new engine, which varies by country, aims to cater to a wide range of needs and adjust to the specific demands of each market. Additionally, the new Landtrek will be available with a 1.9-liter diesel engine producing 110 kW (150 HP) and 350 Nm of torque (paired with a six-speed manual transmission), and a 2.4-liter petrol engine delivering 154 kW (210 HP) and 320 Nm (available with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission).

Rivian’s Long Road to Text Messaging: Native Functionality Promised by 2025, CarPlay Not Included

In 2025, Rivian vehicles are set to receive built-in text messaging features, although these won't be integrated with CarPlay. Wassym Bensaid, Rivian's head of software, had informed customers and enthusiasts two years prior that the company was developing capabilities for reading text messages aloud.

Even after a span of two years, Rivian's electric vehicles have yet to showcase that feature.

During an intimate discussion with press members and stakeholders at Rivian's Los Angeles venue in November, Bensaid announced that Rivian vehicles will be equipped with built-in text messaging features by 2025.

Rivian's Chief Strategy Officer, Bensaid, acknowledged that the company has tried multiple times to implement text-to-speech technology. However, he pointed out that the current options on the market are subpar.

A fix had been prepared for deployment, yet at the last moment of verification, Bensaid declined approval, stating, "no, we cannot ship," due to it being "fragmented." The executive pointed out that this problem was particularly widespread among Android users, and the team aims to provide a smooth experience for both iOS and Android users, even though Bensaid notes that the majority of Rivian owners seem to use Apple products.

Another challenge faced in earlier efforts was the absence of texts. Bensaid mentioned that facilitating group conversations is extremely difficult. He also pointed out that dealing with emojis or reactions is equally troublesome.

Bensaid pointed out that the issue with current solutions is that they fail to provide a fulfilling experience.

Bensaid mentioned that his team is developing an innovative voice technology platform that promises to transform the current user experience. He added that text-to-speech features will be integrated into this advanced software, and he's already spent several weeks trialing the initial models. "It's incredibly distinct. Truly, it's the kind of experience I've been looking forward to," Bensaid expressed.

According to Bensaid, the fresh voice technology framework is set to operate alongside the existing Alexa system. He emphasized his vision of a future where both touchscreens and voice commands are equally utilized for accessibility, not favoring one over the other. Bensaid also pointed out the significant potential that AI holds in achieving this.

However, it's not just limited to voice-based messaging. Users can expect to see a tactile element on the display for engaging with text conversations. Bernsaid was tight-lipped about the specifics or the functionality, simply hinting that "it's truly an impressive interface."

Bensaid is urging owners to give them time, emphasizing that Rivian's approach will surpass current industry standards.

Looking ahead, Bensaid has indicated that the forthcoming software enhancement will activate Google Cast and integrate YouTube directly. This feature expansion will include compatibility with over 3,000 apps, with the notable exception of Netflix, a service that Rivian continues to collaborate on with Google, the software chief mentioned. Additionally, Dolby Surround Sound is planned for future updates, though no specific release date has been confirmed. It's worth noting that Rivians currently support Dolby Atmos via the newly released Apple Music application.

Currently, Google Cast is limited to the primary display; however, Bensaid mentioned that they are exploring options to activate it for backseat screens. As of now, Rivian has a single, modest-sized screen positioned on the rear of the central console, similar to Tesla models. Bensaid noted that expanding Google Cast to the backseat area would allow passengers to utilize the function on the go.

Lexus LF-ZL EV Flagship Launch Pushed to 2027: A Closer Look at the Delay and What It Means for Lexus’ Electric Transformation

It appears that the upcoming Lexus electric vehicle has hit a snag, with Japanese media source NHK indicating a hold-up in the manufacturing schedule.

The model, initially unveiled through the Lexus LF-ZL concept at the 2023 Tokyo auto show, was expected to hit the market in 2026. However, a recent report indicates that its release has been pushed to 2027 to provide additional time for its development.

The LF-ZL, which stands for "Lexus Future Zero-emission Luxury," was a sports utility vehicle with a total length of 208.6 inches. This size placed it roughly eight inches ahead of the Lexus LX, the biggest SUV from the brand, and surpassed the length of the LS sedan, the typical standard-bearer for Lexus, by two inches.

During the reveal of the LF-ZL concept, Lexus announced that it was built on a unique electric vehicle platform, featuring a construction that uses three substantial "gigacastings." This approach, popularized by Tesla, involves using large casting parts instead of numerous smaller welded pieces. Lexus has stated that this technique will streamline the production process and enhance the vehicle's structural integrity.

The design included innovative prismatic battery cells that Lexus claimed would lead to slimmer battery packs, offering greater creative freedom in design. These cells are also expected to be utilized in upcoming electric vehicles produced by the company.

Toyota, the company behind Lexus, announced previously that their goal is to evolve Lexus into a brand focused on electric vehicles (EVs) by the year 2035. The upcoming electric vehicles are anticipated to feature a model based on the LF-ZC concept, a stylish hatchback that was also presented at the Tokyo show the previous year, along with the LF-ZL. Compared to the current Lexus RZ, the sole electric Lexus available in the United States, and the electric UX crossover offered elsewhere, these new additions will mark significant advancements.

Lexus appears to be making headway with its shift towards electric vehicles. Last year, the chief engineer at Lexus informed Green Car Reports about the completion of an 800-volt electrical system designed for upcoming electric models. Additionally, there was a report earlier this year indicating that Toyota is constructing a new facility in Japan to produce batteries specifically for Lexus vehicles.

Toyota has reportedly revised its electric vehicle (EV) strategy, pushing back the launch of a newly designed electric SUV with three rows of seating, initially set for production in Kentucky in 2025, to 2026. However, the company has also announced plans to escalate its worldwide EV output to a minimum of one million units by 2026, marking a significant surge from the production numbers anticipated in 2023, which is almost a tenfold rise.

Papal Progress: Mercedes-Benz Electrifies the Vatican with First Official Electric Popemobile

Mercedes-Benz has presented Pope Francis with the inaugural electric version of the Popemobile. The iconic G-Class Popemobiles, a long-standing element of the Vatican's transportation collection, are transitioning to electric power, aligning with the newest addition to the Popemobile lineup.

On Wednesday, Mercedes unveiled the inaugural electric vehicle designed for Pope Francis' use, the G 580 featuring EQ Technology, which will also be available in U.S. dealerships as a 2025 model this year.

Mercedes highlights its longstanding tradition of providing vehicles to the Vatican, beginning with a Nürburg 460 Pullman sedan delivered to Pope Pius XI in 1930. The name Popemobile emerged for a collection of customized G-Class SUVs, beginning with the 460-series version that debuted with John Paul II in the 1980s, and continued to be used by subsequent Popes Benedict XVI and Francis, featuring raised seating areas and bulletproof glass compartments for the Pope.

The title of being the inaugural electric Popemobile fittingly goes to the electric G-Class, but this occurred because Fisker, which went bankrupt, did not succeed in providing a Popemobile derived from its Ocean electric SUV, a plan it put forward in 2021.

In 2011, Mercedes had plans to provide an M-Class (the model preceding the current GLE-Class) plug-in hybrid as the Popemobile for Pope Benedict XVI. However, at that time, the Vatican was hesitant to use electric cars for the Pope's vehicle, citing concerns about their speed. This issue is probably not going to be a problem with the latest electric version of the G-Class.

The consumer model of the electric G-Wagen is equipped with a four-motor system that delivers 579 horsepower and 859 pound-feet of torque. Mercedes predicts this setup will allow the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 4.7 seconds, reaching a maximum speed of 112 mph. Additionally, the four motors facilitate a function known as the G-Turn, which allows the car to execute full 360-degree turns on slick surfaces, though it's uncertain whether the Pope will utilize this capability.

Mercedes has adjusted the engine system to better suit the slow-paced journeys typical of papal events, with the vehicle set to be unveiled at the 2025 Jubilee in Rome, known as the Popemobile. To accommodate an open-air seating space, they've modified the roof structure and created an entryway by removing the standard position of the tailgate. Additionally, the vehicle has undergone further modifications, including the elimination of the left rear door and the alteration of the right rear door to a reverse hinge, serving as an alternative entrance. The aesthetic is completed with a coat of pearl white paint and interior upholstery to match.

The G-Class marks the initial electric vehicle to serve as the Popemobile, yet it isn't the Vatican's inaugural foray into EVs. In 2017, Pope Francis was gifted an Opel Ampera-e, also known as the Chevrolet Bolt EV's European counterpart, by General Motors. Prior to that, in 2012, Benedict XVI was bestowed with two electric vehicles from Renault. However, this Mercedes will be the premiere electric vehicle to be utilized officially during public engagements.
