Unfazed Under Fire: Sergio Perez Denies Pressure After British GP Qualifying Mishap
"Unrelated" – Sergio Perez dismisses pressure inquiries following recent Q1 elimination
"No, absolutely not, that’s completely unrelated. I am entirely focused on my responsibilities."
Sergio Perez has rejected claims that he is feeling the pressure after being eliminated in the first qualifying session due to a mistake during the F1 qualifying for the British Grand Prix.
During the first qualifying session, Perez spun out of control at the Copse corner while driving his Red Bull, veering off the track and ending up in the gravel trap.
As the track conditions got better, Perez couldn't participate in the qualifying session, resulting in his elimination in Q1 and placing him 19th on the starting grid for Sunday's race.
While speaking to reporters at Silverstone, Perez recounted his mistake, with Crash.net among the media present in the paddock. He explained, "Turn 9 was challenging, particularly at the start. I was attempting to get the tires up to temperature when I downshifted, which caused me to lose control of the rear end significantly, resulting in me going off the track."
"The tyres were cold and the track was drenched in water, causing me to slide into the gravel. I couldn't stop the car or keep it straight. It was a really unlucky situation."
German media sources suggest that Perez's future with Red Bull remains uncertain, even though he signed a new contract earlier this year.
Nevertheless, Perez dismissed suggestions that stress was behind his most recent error.
"Absolutely not, that’s unrelated. I’m completely dedicated to my work," he stated. "My entire focus is on maximizing my own performance."
“I understand my potential and yesterday was quite encouraging. Everything seemed to be moving positively. So, I will stay focused and believe it’s just a matter of time before things improve.”
Perez also mentioned that he has not yet had a conversation with either Helmut Marko or Christian Horner after the qualifying session.
The Mexican emphasizes that his primary goal is to regain the performance level he had at the beginning of the season following a series of challenging outcomes, especially on Saturdays.
"No, not at all; my only focus is on my work, which is to deliver results tomorrow. I don't need to think about anything else," he stated.
"The person most worried about this is me, so I aim to regain my form as quickly as I can and concentrate entirely on my performance."
