Tragic Start to School Year in Eastern China: Bus Crash Claims Lives of Students and Parents, Community Rallies with Blood Drive
Five children and six adults have perished in eastern China after a bus collided with a group at a school, with the driver now in custody. Meanwhile, a nearby cinema has set up blood donation stations following a widespread appeal on social media to help the many injured in the incident.
On Tuesday morning in eastern China, a bus collided with a group of people outside a middle school, resulting in 11 deaths and 24 injuries.
State broadcaster CCTV reported that the accident happened at approximately 7 a.m. outside Foshan Junior High School in Dongping County, Shandong Province, on the second day of the school year.
According to the report, the injured were transported to the hospital.
According to Dongping police, the tragic incident resulted in the deaths of six parents and five students. Additionally, one individual sustained severe injuries, while 12 others are reported to be in stable condition. The status of the remaining victims has not been disclosed.
According to police, the vehicle involved was a school bus tasked with transporting students. It veered off course while nearing an intersection and collided with a group of people. Authorities have since taken the driver into custody, and an investigation into the incident is underway.
