Tragic Start to School Year: Bus Crash in Eastern China Claims Lives of Students and Parents
Five children and six adults have perished in eastern China when a bus plowed into a group of people outside a school. The incident, which also left many injured, occurred shortly after state media highlighted new safety protocols for protecting students. Authorities have since detained the bus driver involved in the fatal crash.
On Tuesday morning in eastern China, a bus collided with a group of people outside a junior high school, resulting in the death of 11 individuals and injuries to 24 others.
State television CCTV reported that an accident happened at about 7 a.m. in front of Foshan Junior High School located in Dongping county, Shandong province, on the second day of the new school year.
According to the report, the injured were transported to the hospital.
According to Dongping police, among the deceased were six parents and five students. One individual sustained severe injuries, while 12 others were reported to be in stable condition. The status of additional injured parties has not been disclosed.
According to authorities, a school bus carrying students was involved in an accident when it lost control at an intersection and collided with a group of people. The driver has been taken into custody and an investigation into the incident is underway.
