Tragedy Strikes Eastern China: 11 Dead as School Bus Plows into Crowd
Five children and six adults have died in eastern China when a bus plowed into a crowd outside a school. The incident, which also left several people injured, occurred just days after national outlets reported on new safety protocols for student protection. Authorities have since taken the bus driver into custody.
On Tuesday morning, a bus collided with a group of people outside a middle school in eastern China, resulting in 11 fatalities and 24 injuries.
State media outlet CCTV reported that the accident happened at about 7 a.m. outside Foshan Junior High School in Dongping County, Shandong Province, on the second day of the school year.
According to the report, the injured were transported to the hospital.
According to Dongping police, the tragic incident resulted in the deaths of six parents and five students. Additionally, one individual sustained severe injuries, while twelve others are in stable condition. The status of the remaining victims has not yet been disclosed.
Authorities reported that the transport involved was a school bus tasked with ferrying students. The incident occurred when the bus, nearing an intersection, veered off its path and collided with a group of people. Law enforcement has since taken the driver into custody, and an investigation into the matter is underway.
