Suzuki unveils five versions of the GSX-8R in honor of Capirossi
Ex-MotoGP competitor Loris Capirossi has been honored with five versions of Suzuki’s GSX-8R motorcycle model dedicated to him.
Capirossi had an extensive career in grand prix racing that kicked off in 1990 in the 125cc category, where he secured the championship title two years in a row right from the start.
The Italian rider clinched the 250cc championship in 1998 riding for Aprilia, then ascended to the top class in 2000 aboard a Honda, securing a win in his first season.
Capirossi continued to race with Honda until 2002 concluded, then moved to the official Ducati team for its initial MotoGP season in 2003, marking his debut on a four-stroke Grand Prix motorcycle.

In that year, he claimed the title of being the first racer to secure a MotoGP victory for Ducati, continuing with the team until the close of 2007, at which point he moved to Suzuki.
Over the span of three seasons until the close of 2010, Capirossi competed on the GSV-R, securing only a single podium finish during this period. He then went on to participate in his last year of MotoGP in 2011, racing for Pramac Racing on a Ducati.
At the latest Turin Motor Show, Suzuki presented its special Legend Edition Capirossi model of the GSX-8R.
This exclusive model, limited to just five units, honors Capirossi and boasts an 82 bhp, equipped with a 776cc liquid-cooled parallel twin engine and a frame made of tubular steel.
"Gazzetta dello Sport quoted Capirossi, who mentioned his initial experience taking place in the square, saying, 'I gave it a go for the first time right here in Piazza Castello.'"
"It's stunning, incredibly nimble and swift."
Regarding his tenure with Suzuki in MotoGP, he commented, "Those were incredible years filled with wonderful memories."
Capirossi continues to hold a significant position in the MotoGP paddock, serving as the representative for Dorna Sports in Race Direction.
In the earlier months of this year, the 2003 model of the Ducati GP3, famously ridden by Capirossi to his initial win during his debut season with the Italian brand, was auctioned at Silverstone and fetched a price of £201,250.
