Supreme Court of Zurich Sides with Adrian Sutil in Legal Battle Against Sauber F1 Team Over Unpaid Finances and Race Seat Loss
Zurich's highest court has ruled in favor of Adrian Sutil in his lawsuit regarding financial disputes and his dropped 2015 racing position against the Sauber F1 team.
In late 2014, Sauber found itself at the center of a controversy when it announced Marcus Ericsson and Felipe Nasr as its Formula 1 drivers for the upcoming season, thereby replacing both Sutil and Giedo van der Garde.
On the night before the 2015 season's first race, the driver from the Netherlands presented his legal challenge in the Australian judiciary, eventually resolving the matter through a mutually agreed settlement.
Sutil, who served as a backup driver for Williams last year, is allegedly pursuing 3.5 million Swiss Francs (approximately £2.4 million) in compensation for unpaid earnings from Sauber in 2014. Additionally, he is involved in another legal matter concerning his claim of being unjustly removed from his racing position the previous season.
Sauber has consistently maintained that the German driver did not achieve the performance goals set for 2014, a year in which the Swiss outfit ended up 10th in the team standings without earning any points. They also assert that Sutil fell short of bringing in $40 million in sponsorship money as was initially agreed upon. The legal proceedings are ongoing.
