Vettel Revs Up Ferrari’s Early 2016 F1 Prep with F14T Test at Fiorano
Vettel and Ferrari Get Early Start on 2016 F1 Season with F14T Trials
Sebastian Vettel alongside Ferrari has commenced their Formula 1 2016 season groundwork ahead of their competitors by clocking some laps in the 2014 vehicle at Fiorano.
The quadruple world title holder undertook several circuits at Ferrari's exclusive testing ground in Italy. Vettel, who became part of the Scuderia team in 2015, took his initial drive in the 2014 version F14T.
While Formula 1 has stringent rules governing testing, the FIA permits the use of 'previous cars' from the years 2012, 2013, and 2014 for such activities, provided these vehicles remain unaltered.
Under the Sporting Regulations, it's crucial that no team is seen as having an edge in their current preparations at any given time, despite the allowances made for test concessions during promotional activities and events, like the recent ski slope showcase by Max Verstappen with Red Bull last week.
Vettel is scheduled to return to the driver's seat next week at Paul Ricard, where he'll serve as Ferrari's chosen driver for the two-day Pirelli wet weather tire evaluation. The test will only feature Ferrari, McLaren, and Red Bull – operating cars from the 2015 season – with Stoffel Vandoorne, Daniil Kvyat, and Daniel Ricciardo assigned as the drivers.
