Revving Up the Big Screen: Inside the Making of ‘F1’ with Lewis Hamilton and the World of Formula 1
Clarified: Participation of Lewis Hamilton and All F1 Drivers in Brad Pitt's Formula 1 Film
Lewis Hamilton, along with all Formula 1 drivers, is set to appear in a Brad Pitt-led film.
Each racer will have a role in the soon-to-be-released Formula 1 film starring Brad Pitt.
Naturally, Lewis Hamilton served as an executive producer, lending an authentic touch to the endeavor.
New insights into his major role in the film, titled 'F1', have been revealed.
"Three years back, he was the initial individual I reached out to," Joseph Kosinski told Deadline.
"To ensure the utmost authenticity, having a team member who experiences it daily would be indispensable."
"Lewis has proven to be an amazing collaborator; he hops onto Zoom calls with me amidst his races to meticulously review the script, covering every aspect from each turn to the specifics of tire compounds, ensuring we nail every detail accurately.
"Furthermore, from a narrative and imaginative perspective, he contributes ideas as well."
The film showcases F2 vehicles, altered to resemble the latest generation of F1 cars, constructed by Mercedes.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer noted, "The journey truly begins with Lewis."
"Starting with Lewis, we transitioned to Mercedes, and from Mercedes, we acquired the car; when you tackle it correctly, it's easier than it appears."
"After that, we approached Stefano Domenicali, the CEO of Formula One Group, we also reached out to Mohammed Ben Sulayem, the President of FIA, and we engaged with the heads of each team.
"We've gathered all the drivers to inform them of our actions. We've engaged with nearly every individual involved in Formula 1."
Bruckheimer emphasized, "The top priority is always to narrate a compelling and emotionally resonant tale. However, from our initial discussions with Lewis, he highlighted that no movie has yet fully depicted the true experience of being inside a Formula 1 car. Hence, our aim has been to immerse viewers into the cockpit of these remarkable vehicles."
Pitt portrays the lead role, Sonny Hayes, an experienced driver who is lured back behind the wheel in pursuit of his ambition.
The film captured footage at various actual Formula 1 Grand Prix events, such as at Silverstone the previous weekend and in the preceding year.
Last year, Pitt took to the circuit during actual F1 events and in front of a live audience to film crucial sequences for the film.
Last week, he gained recognition for participating with F1 drivers in conducting interviews after the race. While the drivers were sharing their deep emotions, Pitt was in his element, performing.
Consequently, actual Formula 1 racers will appear in the movie.
"Indeed, they are portraying their own characters," confirmed Kosinski.
"We're simply integrating into this universe, with the racers embodying their true selves in these competitions depicted in the film."
"We're positioned as the eleventh squad, trailing behind in an outstanding lineup of teams."
"We're watching the racers on the circuit, and we're eager to see them all make it safely off the course as well."
Bruckheimer noted, “The selection of these drivers is based on their exceptional skills; they must excel in F1, showcasing both charisma and attractiveness, as they embody the essence of the brand they represent.”
"They resemble film celebrities; the parallels to our own universe are striking."
"Our task is to evoke feelings in the viewers. Consider the film Top Gun: Maverick, with its thrilling aerial sequences and the impressive work by Joe – without the underlying emotional narrative, audiences wouldn’t have been so eager to watch the film, nor would they have returned for multiple viewings. We aim to replicate that approach in our project."
The film titled 'F1' is set to premiere in June 2025.
