Red Bull’s Remarkable Recovery: The Inside Story of Their Imola Triumph
Christian Horner Reveals Red Bull's Imola Comeback Strategy
Christian Horner has revealed the strategy behind Red Bull's remarkable recovery after a challenging Friday at Imola.
Christian Horner credits a significant push on Friday night as the key factor behind Red Bull's remarkable recovery at the F1 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
At Imola, Red Bull faced their toughest Friday of the year, as both Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez had issues with the stability of their RB20 vehicles, finishing behind in the timings during both practice rounds.
On Saturday, Verstappen managed to surpass both McLaren drivers, securing pole position, and then successfully fended off an aggressive pursuit by Lando Norris to clinch his fifth win in the season's seven races.
In a conversation with Crash.net and other media outlets following Sunday's event, Horner acknowledged the contribution of ex-Toro Rosso racer Sebastien Buemi in enhancing the team's success, attributing it to Buemi's efforts in simulator work.
When questioned about the secret behind Red Bull's recent success, Horner attributed it to Sebastien Buemi. He explained that extensive adjustments were made to the car's setup from Friday to Saturday, significantly improving its balance.
"As I mentioned, during 60 percent of the competition, we maintained a lead of six to eight seconds ahead of the others. However, during the latter half of our run on the hard tire, we began to lose performance."
Horner elaborated, stating, "It was a significant gamble, which is why it's crucial not to overlook the extensive team back at the factory, including the simulator drivers.
"Fair recognition must be given; the true spirit of a team shines through its ability to bounce back during tough times, and we successfully did just that."
"If you had anticipated this outcome for Friday, every piece of analysis would have told you it was impossible, yet we succeeded in reversing our fortunes and securing the victory."
Securing his eighth straight pole position on Saturday, Verstappen hailed Red Bull’s comeback as “one of the greatest” he has witnessed in his F1 career.
"On Friday, during the extended races, we were completely off pace," Verstappen remarked. "I didn't have a positive sensation whatsoever."
"Even as we attempted another extended run on Saturday morning, it was significantly below expectations, leaving us quite dissatisfied. However, I felt a noticeable improvement in the car by the time we entered the qualifying round."
"I was aware that today would improve, but I couldn't imagine the extent of that improvement."
