Racing Community Unites: Pistard Team Withdraws in Honor of Luca Salvadori, Crowning Him Posthumous Champion
Opposing team pays tribute to Luca Salvadori with a touching act
Italian rider loses life in a crash in Germany
The Pistard squad, competing in Italy's National Trophy 1000, has opted out of the season's last two races in 2024, allowing the recently deceased Luca Salvadori to secure the championship title.
The motorbike racing community was left in shock last weekend when beloved racer and online influencer Salvadori tragically lost his life due to an event that occurred in Germany.
During the Frohberg leg of the International Road Racing Championship, Salvadori was involved in a deadly crash.
A veteran competitor in Italy's national racing circuits, Salvadori also participated in the MotoE World Championship last year with the Pramac team.
The racing community has expressed an overwhelming number of tributes following his passing.
Nonetheless, the Pistard squad, which competes with Filippo Rovelli in the National Trophy 1000, has extended the most significant gesture of goodwill towards Salvadori.
With just two events left in the 2024 season, Salvadori’s main rivals, both his team and the rider, have chosen to step back, enabling the recently deceased Italian to be honored as the champion posthumously.
Gianluca Galesi Milella shared on his social platforms, stating: "An incredibly terrible event occurred, which is hard for me to grasp."
"Our immediate competitor as a team for the past four years, featuring [Roberto] Tamburini, [Gabriele] Giannini, and this year with Filippo Rovelli, has passed away.
"Luca was an incredible person, kind, gentle, pleasant, and cheerful. Those of us lucky enough to have encountered him in real life can attest to who Luca truly was."
"The last occasion we met, we discussed his upcoming race in Germany. He was unsure about participating to preserve the condition of his bike. However, he decided to compete and never returned."
I had a conversation with Filippo Rovelli about the possibility of visiting Imola.
"We won't be participating in the races at both Imola and Cervesina. Our sole reason for being there will be to honor Luca."
"Through this action, we aim to ensure that Luca, despite no longer being with us, can from above, revel in the National Trophy 1000 championship victory he had pursued for numerous years and was on the verge of achieving."
"This season, he had a strong chance of clinching the title with four victories in six attempts. Sadly, he won't have the opportunity to revel in his success."
"The sole method for us to bid him farewell is by abstaining from competing in the final two races, allowing him to secure the championship."
