Police Clear Mercedes of Wrongdoing in Hamilton ‘Sabotage’ Email Investigation: No Criminal Offences Found
Northamptonshire Police have informed Mercedes that their investigation into the Lewis Hamilton 'sabotage' email has concluded without finding any criminal activity.
The Northamptonshire Police have informed the Mercedes Formula One team that their investigation into an email alleging sabotage against Lewis Hamilton has concluded with the finding of "no criminal offences."
On June 11, following the Canadian Grand Prix, an individual alleging to be part of the Mercedes crew leveled accusations against the team, charging them with intentionally undermining Hamilton's performance.
The message also alleged that the group was jeopardizing Hamilton's safety.
During the Spanish Grand Prix event, Toto Wolff clarified that the letter originated not from a team member but from a disgruntled fan of Hamilton.
Wolff disclosed that they had lodged a complaint with the police for an investigation to be carried out.
Wolff stated, "The source isn't someone within our group. Receiving such a large volume of emails, especially those that mention death and similar topics, is distressing."
Wolff labeled the individual responsible for the email as a “conspiracy theorist” and a “madman” due to the allegations.
On Tuesday afternoon, a spokesperson for the Northamptonshire Police issued the following announcement.
A representative mentioned, "On 12 June, Northamptonshire Police were informed about an email that was distributed among members of the Mercedes AMG F1 Team.
"Upon investigation, it was determined that no laws had been broken. Nonetheless, guidance was provided on how to handle any additional emails the team might receive."
Hamilton experienced his most successful weekend of the season to date in Barcelona.
The 39-year-old secured a third-place finish, achieving his first podium of the year, in yet another competitive showing for Mercedes during the weekend.
Following the competition, Wolff reaffirmed his earlier position.
"He expressed a complete lack of respect for those conspiracy theorists, criticizing their intelligence," he continued. "Our goal is to have a car that triumphs in races and secures championships. Anyone unable to understand this might be better suited to following a different sport."
It's refreshing to observe that Lewis experienced an excellent weekend, especially since it's been some time since things have gone in his favor and tactics have played to his advantage.
"However, today things turned out to his advantage, so I'm pleased he secured that podium spot, especially since it's been some time since the last one."
