Oscar Piastri Overcomes Broken Rib and Seat Woes to Triumph at Hungarian Grand Prix
Oscar Piastri attributes rib harm to ill-fitting F1 cockpit
Oscar Piastri reveals details about surprising injury
Oscar Piastri claims that an ill-fitting F1 race seat led to his rib injury.
During the summer pause, the McLaren racer disclosed an X-ray that demonstrated he had suffered a previously undisclosed injury earlier in the racing year.
Piastri claimed his first F1 Grand Prix victory in Hungary, having competed with a fractured rib, a fact he only disclosed afterward.
He now asserts that his racing seat was the reason.
"At the beginning of the year, you create your position, and occasionally, there are some inaccuracies," Piastri mentioned in Zandvoort, in anticipation of this weekend's F1 Dutch Grand Prix.
"Certain circuits remain discreet about it. However, I believe moving from Barcelona to Austria to Silverstone… those are three intensely challenging tracks."
"It merely became a stress factor that finally collapsed."
"Everything's fine once more. We swapped out the seat and took care of the issue right away. So, things are back to how they were."
Piastri mentioned regarding his injury, "The imaging took place the day following the Silverstone event, but the injury had certainly occurred prior to Silverstone."
This implies he competed in three grand prix events despite being injured.
Adjustments have been implemented to ease any discomfort he continues to experience.
"Piastri mentioned that they pinpointed potential adjustments for the seat."
"Despite the fact that it was damaged, altering a few aspects significantly reduced the discomfort."
"Despite navigating through Budapest and Spa, the situation was not deteriorating; in fact, it was improving."
McLaren heads into the Dutch Grand Prix aiming to seize the momentum from Mercedes, which has claimed victory in three of the last four races.
McLaren remains confident that they possess the quickest Formula 1 vehicle at present, as they aim to close the gap with Red Bull.
