Latest for Firefighters: Mercedes Unimog and Atego showcased at FIREmobil
We have a new favorite term: fire-fighting support vehicle
Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks will be exhibiting a range of vehicle solutions at FIREmobil, the showcase event for crisis and disaster response technology, from September 19 to 21, 2024. In addition to two Atego series vehicles, the manufacturer will present six emergency vehicles built on the Unimog platform. These vehicles, with their varied configurations, are designed to cover an extensive range of firefighting operations.
Rosenbauer Company has specifically designed the "MT Forest DK" for firefighting in forest areas, using the highly off-road capable Unimog as a base. This model features an extended cab, commonly referred to as "Doka," which can accommodate up to seven crew members. The vehicle is equipped with a roof hatch that allows firefighting operations using the pump and roll method while moving. Additionally, it includes a self-protection system that cools the tires and cabin with a mist spray. The front-mounted monitor can be controlled from within the cabin.
Paired with the tire pressure control system for improved maneuverability on diverse terrains, features such as water crossing capability, high ground clearance, and substantial approach and departure angles render the Unimog a nimble tool for tackling vegetation and wildfires.
The fire-fighting tank vehicle constructed by Schlingmann is also founded on the Unimog U 5023 model and is tailored to meet the demands of firefighting operations in off-road environments. Its framework, welded from stainless steel special profiles, provides the structure with strength and advanced protection against corrosion.

The unique dual three-point mounting system that connects the body to the chassis enables twist-free movement across rough terrain. This feature ensures rapid delivery of firefighting water and foam to the incident site, even in forested areas or on steep slopes. Additionally, there's an option to install a 4000-liter tank for firefighting water.
The four lateral equipment compartments provide ample space for extensive firefighting equipment storage. Moreover, storage boxes can be mounted on the roof of the structure. The pump system is located in the rear compartment. The TLF 3000 comes equipped with a Schlingmann fire-fighting centrifugal pump, a C-nozzle on the roof, front-mounted water cannons, and spray nozzles for self-protection.
At the Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks exhibit, there are additional vehicle options built on the Unimog framework. These include the "TLF 2000" and "TLF 3000 Vario" by BAI, a logistics equipment van by Brandschutztechnik Stolpen (BTS), and a service vehicle from the non-profit organization @fire, which features a flatbed and tarpaulin by Söder.
Increased fire brigade presence, additional Unimog vehicles:
Additionally, those attending can see at the booth the assistance and firefighting vehicle HLF 20 Varus 4×4, assembled by Schlingmann, which is built on the Atego 1530 AF model. There's also an Atego 1630 AF on display, featuring a 10-ton rear axle and single tires for increased load capacity and greater flexibility in how the vehicle's weight is distributed. The Atego 1630 AF is showcased without any bodywork.
