Lewis Hamilton highlights unrealistic aspects in Brad Pitt's F1 movie
Lewis Hamilton discusses scenes he had to modify in the film
Lewis Hamilton has shared which scenes in the Brad Pitt Formula 1 movie made him say "that's not realistic."
Hamilton has taken on the role of executive producer for the soon-to-be-released film featuring renowned actor Pitt, who portrays an experienced racer aiming to recapture his former success.
The feature, named 'F1,' is set to launch the following year.
Hamilton was queried about which parts of the movie's shooting process made him declare them as implausible.
He conveyed to Esquire, "The discussions would solely revolve around racing situations. It would involve the kind of complex terminology that engineers use."
"Especially in regards to the dynamics of racing, including the maneuvers to pass opponents, the timing of pit stops, the tactics employed, and similar aspects."
"It's possible that a crash occurred where the vehicle struck a barrier, overturned, and then remarkably landed right side up, continuing on its path, an event that is not typical in Formula 1."
Hamilton mentioned, "Ehren [Kruger, the screenwriter] conducted extensive research, viewed numerous races, attended several in person, and then retreated to craft a screenplay."
"We used to have discussions on the essence of racing. After he drafted the screenplay, I'd review it with him, pointing out inaccuracies or elements that didn't align with the true nature of F1, aiming to enhance its authenticity as much as we could."
"Simultaneously, I initiated a production firm, taking on the role of a producer alongside these individuals."
"I've had the opportunity to engage in various aspects, ensuring the cast is varied and that we include a woman in the pit crew, a role we've never previously seen at the track."
"I always envisioned Hans Zimmer as the one composing the movie's score, and now we've secured him. Joe [Kosinski, the director] has been incredibly inclusive, allowing me to be a part of it all.”
Is Brad Pitt genuinely skilled behind the wheel?
The renowned actor Pitt has captured sequences for his film at various authentic Formula 1 Grand Prix events.
During last year's British Grand Prix, he maneuvered a modified F2 vehicle around the circuit in the presence of an actual audience to film a genuine scene.
Hamilton has disclosed the reality regarding the renowned actor's actual driving capabilities.
"He told me, 'We headed to a race track in Los Angeles. I let him take the wheel while I rode shotgun.'"
"In my younger days, I worked as a driving instructor. This part-time job helped me earn extra cash while I was involved in racing."
"I've spent time with countless individuals who aren't professional racers. It's quite clear from the start who among them has talent and who doesn't."
"Immediately, it was clear he possessed that special something. It's in his very nature. Though he hasn't been able to fully refine it as we have, his potential is enormous."
Hamilton believes Pitt has the capability to convincingly portray a race car driver, stating, "Certainly, but it naturally requires time."
In the end, the narrative of someone in their fifties taking on the challenge and competing with us younger folks – it's simply unconventional.
"However, the conversation shifts to the methodology: What steps would need to be taken? What extent of preparation would be necessary to effectively return to battle and respond as before? Indeed, there's significant intricacy involved in the process."
