Lando Norris Dominates Second British GP Practice, Verstappen Struggles to Seventh
Lando Norris surged ahead in the second practice session of the British Grand Prix, securing the fastest lap time, while Max Verstappen finished in seventh place. Norris ensured McLaren remained in the leading position on the timing charts as Friday's practice at Silverstone concluded with him at the top.
Once more, Lando Norris led the pack for McLaren during the second practice session, maintaining his strong performance at the start of the F1 British Grand Prix weekend.
Norris, aiming to move past his intense crash with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen at the Austrian Grand Prix as he gears up for his home race, clocked in three-tenths of a second faster than his McLaren teammate Lando Norris during the second practice session.
During the second practice session, Sergio Perez led the Red Bull team, although he was 0.434 seconds behind Lando Norris. Close on Perez's heels, just 0.007 seconds behind, Nico Hulkenberg unexpectedly secured fourth place for Haas. Meanwhile, Ferrari's Charles Leclerc finished in sixth, trailing by approximately six-tenths of a second.
Lewis Hamilton, the quickest Mercedes driver, secured sixth place but was 0.653 seconds slower than Norris' leading time. The seven-time world champion managed to outpace Verstappen, who uncharacteristically faced difficulties and ended up in seventh.
The driver from the Netherlands ended the session almost 0.7 seconds behind Norris while using the same soft tire compound. He was also observed going off track at the high-speed Chapel section after experiencing a significant instability during one of his laps.
A portion of Verstappen's time gap can be attributed to the changes in track conditions, as he posted his fastest lap earlier in the second practice session relative to his leading competitors.
Carlos Sainz of Ferrari secured the eighth position, followed by Lance Stroll of Aston Martin in ninth place, with George Russell finishing tenth for Mercedes.
Unexpected rain showers disrupted the extended sessions and stopped any attempts to achieve faster times as the second practice concluded.
