### Hamilton Rebukes McLaren’s Claims on Verstappen’s Aggressiveness: “I Don’t Agree,” Says F1 Champion
Lewis Hamilton challenges McLaren's statement regarding his encounters with Max Verstappen.
Lewis Hamilton expressed his opposition to McLaren chief Andrea Stella's view on Max Verstappen's driving style.
Lewis Hamilton has expressed his disagreement with McLaren team principal Andrea Stella's opinion that Max Verstappen's aggressive driving style stems from insufficient penalties during his 2021 F1 championship contest with Hamilton, reports Lewis Larkam from Silverstone.
Following a heated battle for the lead between Verstappen and Lando Norris during the final laps of the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring last weekend, McLaren team principal Stella argued that Verstappen's persistent aggressive racing tactics stem from him not facing adequate penalties for comparable clashes with Hamilton in 2021.
Speaking to Sky Sports F1 in Austria, Stella remarked that everyone globally would be aware of who is at fault, except for a certain group of individuals. "The issue," she continued, "is that if these matters aren't dealt with openly, they will resurface."
"They returned today because previous conflicts with Lewis were not adequately dealt with and required stricter penalties."
During the FIA press conference on Thursday at Silverstone, which took place before the British Grand Prix this weekend, Hamilton was questioned about whether he shared Stella's perspective. Hamilton firmly responded, "I don't agree with that, no."
At that point, Norris chimed in, stating, "I'm confident that Lewis would have concurred with this two or three years back!"
"There were certainly some specific instances, but overall, I will always support Andrea's statements. I believe Andrea is quite sensible in his speech and the topics he addresses."
"I certainly believe that some aspects are accurate, and I do concur with Andrea's point. However, things tend to vary when you're actually experiencing them firsthand."
"I believe there needs to be some clarification in the way he phrases things, as pronunciation and other nuances can vary. Overall, though, I agree with Andrea's point of view."
Hamilton had earlier confessed to treating Verstappen differently on the track compared to other drivers because of Verstappen's aggressive driving style and reputation.
However, the seven-time world champion declined to comment on the incident between Verstappen and Norris in Austria, stating, "it doesn't concern me."
When questioned about his thoughts on the incident, Hamilton responded: "It didn't really mean much to me. I was more focused on my own race and celebrating the team's victory."
When questioned about offering guidance to Norris, Hamilton responded: "I really don't think it's necessary. They've been competing against one another for years."
