Hamilton Clarifies Radio Complaint Amid Monaco Grand Prix Strategy Frustration
Lewis Hamilton elaborates on his "I told you guys" radio message during the Monaco Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton sheds light on his "I told you guys" grievance communicated via team radio in Monaco.
Lewis Hamilton explained his radio message, "I told you guys," broadcasted in the initial phases of the Monaco Grand Prix.
Following the race being halted due to the chaos caused by Kevin Magnussen, Sergio Perez, and Nico Hulkenberg, Hamilton expressed frustration over the team radio.
"Hamilton said to Mercedes race engineer Peter Bonnington, "I warned you guys."
Among the racers who began the race within the top 10 positions, merely Hamilton, George Russell, and Max Verstappen opted for the hard tyre as their starting choice.
Due to the race being halted by a red flag, competitors were given the opportunity to switch to hard tyres, enabling them to potentially complete the remainder of the race without further changes.
Hamilton clarified the previously mentioned radio communication to a chosen group of journalists, including Crash.net, while in Monaco.
"In his view, regardless of the tyre choice, the race was expected to be a lengthy one. However, his preference was to commence on the hard tyre," he explained. "He had an inkling that an incident might occur early in the race, which would typically present a chance to transition to the hard tyres and continue till the finish.
"However, it appears that ultimately, the slow pace at which everyone was driving rendered the situation moot."
In Monte Carlo, Mercedes seemingly made progress with George Russell securing a fifth-place finish, ahead of Max Verstappen.
Nonetheless, they lagged significantly behind Ferrari and McLaren, as these two teams competed fiercely for the win in the principality.
Even though he didn't perform as well as he hoped, Hamilton was happy to observe the progress Mercedes has made in the latest competitions.
"To be honest, it's hard to say. But at the end of the day, my goal is to put in my maximum effort every single weekend, to strive and contribute my best to the team. It's truly gratifying to witness the team introducing improvements, and I'm eagerly anticipating the potential impact of these upgrades in the final three races," he further stated.
"This weekend, George also received a positive result, so I'm looking forward to getting mine next week. With any luck, in the upcoming races, we'll see more positive outcomes which should help us narrow the gap and keep the momentum going."
