From Fan to Foe: Oliver Bearman Eager to Race Childhood Idol Lewis Hamilton in 2025 F1 Season

"Oliver Bearman remembers the encouragement he got from Lewis Hamilton during his formative years, saying, 'I got a video from him back in 2015 or 2016 telling me to keep striving and that hopefully, I would make it to F1 one day. And now, here I am.'"

Newly signed Haas F1 driver Oliver Bearman is eager for the chance to compete against fellow Briton Lewis Hamilton when he debuts next year.

In a statement made before this weekend's British Grand Prix, Haas revealed that Bearman will be among their two drivers for the 2025 Formula 1 season.

Bearman has made a strong impression on the team during his multiple FP1 sessions.

Earlier this year, he also took the spotlight during his single race with Ferrari, stepping in for Carlos Sainz at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

This indicates that next year will see four British drivers competing, the highest number since 2013 when Hamilton, Jenson Button, Paul di Resta, and Max Chilton were on the grid.

While talking to the press at Silverstone, where Crash.net's team is present in the paddock, Bearman disclosed that he got an encouraging video message from Hamilton back in either 2015 or 2016.

He expressed his wish to compete against Hamilton, indicating it would signify their successful performance.

"It's unbelievable. I recently watched a video he sent me back in 2015 or 2016, encouraging me to keep striving and saying that hopefully, I would reach Formula 1 someday. And now, here I am."

"It's surreal to be on the same track as these guys. I've watched races featuring Fernando, and it's really something special. It's one of those moments where you have to pinch yourself to believe it's real."

Bearman is a member of Ferrari's young driver academy, and it’s expected that his greatest ambition is to secure a full-time racing position with the renowned Italian team.

He continued by saying, "Naturally, my ultimate goal hasn't changed. I aim to achieve success in Formula 1, winning both races and championships. Given the backing and dedication Ferrari has shown me, it feels only fitting to strive for these accomplishments with them. After all, it's a dream many boys share."

"Debuting with them has definitely reinforced that feeling. However, I am also focusing on my immediate and near future."

"My immediate objective is to complete my time in Formula 2 and then focus on the upcoming year with Haas, which I am very enthusiastic about."

The identity of Bearman's partner remains uncertain, but reports suggest that Esteban Ocon is the leading candidate to join Haas in 2025.

Bearman is unconcerned about who his teammate will be, but he prefers someone who has experience.

He commented that it was a difficult question, emphasizing that it wasn't his decision to make. He mentioned that ideally, he would want a teammate who has experience.

"Both individuals possess speed and are great mentors. Having these qualities is essential to compete in Formula 1. Therefore, I am content with either of them."
