Maserati: A Glimpse at the 2025 Lineup
The year 2025 marks the arrival of the MC20 Folgore, the electric powerhouse sports car boasting over 800 horsepower.
Sales may not be at their peak currently, but that's not stopping Maserati from forging ahead with its electric overhaul in 2025. The renowned trident logo is set to adorn its most potent electric offering yet, the MC20 Folgore. This vehicle is a fusion of luxury and power, poised to deliver extraordinary performance.
Additionally, as the year progresses, we can expect to get a sneak peek at the upcoming models from the brand. However, let's take it step by step and look into Maserati's plans.
Maserati's Electric Variant, the MC20 Folgore
The Maserati MC20 Model
Following the GranTurismo and the Grecale, the MC20 is next in line to undergo the Folgore transformation. This means the most powerful Maserati is becoming all-electric, although there are no official details yet regarding its design and powertrain.
Visually, one should not anticipate any major overhauls, except for a few body parts that will be redesigned to enhance aerodynamics and visually differentiate the model from its combustion engine counterpart.
It's yet to be determined what the overall output of the system will be and whether the MC20 will feature two or three electric motors. It's expected that the MC20 Folgore will surpass the 830 horsepower and 1,350 Nm of torque (in MaxBoost mode) delivered by the GranTurismo and GranCabrio Folgore models.
The latest Maserati Levante
2021 Maserati Levante Hybrid
The only model announced for 2025 so far is the MC20 Folgore, yet we might catch a glimpse of the initial teaser for Modena's electric SUV in the E-segment next year. Currently, this model is known by the code name E-UV BEV, and Maserati has not confirmed whether it will actually be called Levante.
The product is slated for a 2027 release, although we might see initial stylistic and technical teasers as early as 2025.

Lightship AE.1 Cosmos Edition: A $250,000 Luxury Electrified Glamping Experience Set to Transform RV Travel
Startup company Lightship revealed on Wednesday the final version of its electric travel trailer, the Lightship AE.1 Cosmos Edition, enhancing the luxury camping experience at a price of $250,000.
Initially named the L1, the trailer has been rebranded to AE.1 and is set to begin its manufacturing process in 2025 at Lightship's Broomfield, Colorado plant. The company announced that the initial batch will consist of 50 Cosmos Edition units, each with a sticker price of $250,000. However, with anticipated tax deductions, Lightship predicts the actual cost for buyers will be lowered to $239,900.
Launched in 2023, the Lightship trailer is equipped with a battery pack that not only runs the onboard devices but also drives the trailer itself. This innovative feature ensures that electric vehicles pulling the trailer maintain their driving range, while traditional gas-powered cars see improved miles per gallon, according to Lightship. During its debut, Lightship announced that an 80-kwh battery would enable an electric vehicle rated at 300 miles to retain its full range capacity even while towing the trailer.
Illumination Vessel AE.1 Universe Version
Lightship points out that utilizing battery power, enhanced by a solar-paneled roof, gives those who enjoy camping the chance to forego the loudness associated with generators and the risk that comes with propane tanks. This energy source supports amenities such as a high-quality climate control system and a comprehensive bathroom and kitchen, which includes a dishwasher, fridge, microwave, convection oven, and an induction stove.
The commencement of manufacturing for Lightship has been slightly delayed beyond the initial goal of late 2024, and the cost for the premier Cosmos Edition is significantly more than the originally stated base price of $125,000. This price increase probably pertains to the three subsequent models—Atmos, Panos, and Terros—that are set to be released after the Cosmos Edition. The introductory model will first be available to those who made early bookings before it becomes accessible to the general public. Additionally, Lightship is now accepting pre-orders for the upcoming three models.
Adapting to a lifestyle on the road with electric vehicles will necessitate innovative strategies, and Lightship isn't the only player in the game. In 2022, Airstream introduced the eStream, a caravan engineered to enhance the driving range of electric vehicles, as well as fuel efficiency in traditional gas or diesel vehicles. Meanwhile, Colorado Teardrops has developed a system that hooks up a battery pack from the caravan to the towing vehicle, providing it with an additional power boost.

2025 Lucid Gravity: The SUV That Drives Like a Sport Sedan and Reshapes Expectations
Test drive sneak peek: The 2025 Lucid Gravity redefines the SUV category
It was clear something was off when I was maneuvering this early version of the 2025 Lucid Gravity through the winding turns close to Lucid's base in the Bay Area of California recently.
I found myself speeding more than I had planned. Despite the flawed road surface, the Gravity seemed capable of much more, offering a steady and well-balanced ride, ample stability, responsive feedback from the steering, and the potential for some enjoyment—assuming, of course, this were a private track.
The thing is, the Gravity model is categorized as an SUV. However, in my over 25 years of reviewing cars, I've never encountered an SUV with a driving experience comparable to this one. Lucid has impressively fine-tuned its performance to mirror that of a sporty sedan, or maybe more accurately, a sporty wagon. My personal sense of balance was thrown off, and I found myself repeatedly peeking at the rearview mirror, only to see two roomy rows of seating reminiscent of a minivan, which frankly left me quite astonished and somewhat incredulous.
I'm telling you, it's positive. Judging from my quick date, I'm convinced it's excellent, truly excellent.
2025 Lucid Gravity Grand Touring
Rewritten text
A Fresh Perspective on SUVs
Let's reconsider: In case Lucid's impressive debut with the Lucid Air sedan slipped past your radar, the Gravity SUV undeniably draws attention to the carmaker's unwavering commitment to maximizing efficiency.
The Air has already showcased its capabilities with its small yet potent and energy-efficient electric power system. Now, the Gravity brings this cutting-edge technology to a vehicle type that's more likely to resonate with the majority of American consumers: a three-row SUV. In this instance, it's an SUV that Lucid claims can travel 450 miles on a single charge according to EPA standards, powered by a relatively small battery for its purpose—around 118 kWh. Additionally, it's designed to rapidly recharge, gaining 200 miles of driving range in just 15 minutes through a 350-kW high-speed charging station (initial models will have a CCS port, with a Tesla-like NACS port expected in future models).
The Lucid Gravity, set to release in 2025, acknowledges the demands of the marketplace while maintaining its unique brand approach. Therefore, it's expected that the Gravity won't be competing in the segment of rugged, off-road, square-shaped SUVs that take their names from rough terrain paths.
"Exploring the rugged terrain of Utah and engaging in rock climbing is not on our agenda," declared Derek Jenkins, the head of design. "However, for journeys to a cabin, traversing dirt trails, and tackling moderate off-road adventures, the Gravity will excel, especially with its suspension features."
2025 Model of Lucid Gravity, Grand Touring Edition
Before I set out for my test drive, Lucid's lead engineer and the senior vice president of product, Eric Bach, pointed out that the company doesn't prioritize developing cars just for their acceleration from 0 to 60 mph. He emphasized that performance isn't limited to track speeds but also includes handling on curvy mountain roads, crash-safety standards, and the car's ability to minimize noise, vibration, and roughness.
It seems that the team at Lucid isn't typically known for their passion for SUVs. However, this new vehicle is likely to alter many people's perspectives.
Lucid prioritizes an effective design to maximize efficiency, as it helps to mitigate a domino effect of issues. Opting for less-efficient parts or design leads to a bulkier car due to the need for extra batteries to cover the desired range. This, in turn, compromises the car's capacity for occupants and luggage.
The company emphasized to Green Car Reports their satisfaction with the compact design of the Gravity, which measures 198.2 inches in length and has a wheelbase of 119.5 inches. With an estimated height of 65 inches at its lowest configuration, it stands shorter than a Subaru Forester, ensuring it can easily fit into parking structures.
Gravity boasts a slim design that extends in every dimension except for its width, which, at 78 inches without the mirrors, is typical for its category. It features a front cross-sectional area, referred to as CdA, that is significantly more streamlined than its competitors, with the exception of the Tesla Model X. It is anticipated that the drag coefficient will be approximately 0.24, although the definitive test results have not been published, and it may ultimately achieve a slightly more favorable figure.
Upcoming 2025 Lucid Gravity Luxury Edition
Bach made it clear to Green Car Reports that Gravity is not simply an Air model with superficial changes. Instead, it was designed from the ground up as a brand-new SUV platform. This design incorporates a modular approach, utilizing select components from the Air but reconfigured to suit the unique structure. According to Bach, this approach allowed Lucid to create a vehicle that is genuinely capable of off-road adventures and is also designed with a focus on maximizing space for both passengers and their cargo, all while maintaining the distinct appearance of an SUV.
From an aesthetic standpoint, Gravity seamlessly aligns with the Air model. Though it presents a distinct silhouette, it also introduces added dimension to its rear lights and positions its front lights more upright—primarily to accommodate a broader front trunk space, which optionally includes a net at the forefront.
The vehicle boasts a pleasing design featuring an elegant sweep of the roof and a good posture. However, it doesn't have a direct rival among current SUV offerings. As noted by my fellow reporter Joel Feder during a test drive of an initial Gravity alpha build prototype, this vehicle appears to be a hybrid of sorts, blurring the boundaries between a station wagon, a minivan, and an SUV.
I concur. However, the driving experience of the Gravity is unlike any minivan I've previously encountered.

2025 Model of the Lucid Gravity in its Grand Tour
The objective was to ensure that the Gravity model didn't handle like a typical SUV but rather mirrored the driving experience of a Lucid vehicle. This was one of the key tuning aims, explained John Culliton, an expert in chassis and vehicle dynamics, who accompanied me during the test drive.
To ensure consistency, the core steering mechanism and basic design are inherited from the Air model, yet the rear suspension system, along with the air suspension, is a fresh addition, accompanied by the introduction of rear-steering capabilities. The front subframe and steering assembly are securely fixed in place to maximize the transmission of tactile feedback. However, compared to the Air, the structural anchor points have been repositioned to optimize load distribution. Although each connecting component is newly designed, the overall arrangement has been finely tuned to minimize strain on the steering system while employing the same equipment.
According to Bach, the core composition of the Gravity's frame is primarily aluminum, incorporating a mere 2-4% of steel in certain targeted areas. Lucid has employed a technique of large-scale casting for several components of the body.
Every variant of the Lucid Gravity will be equipped with a customizable air suspension system and adaptable dampers to fully leverage its aerodynamic design and powerful drive system. Drivers can adjust the suspension's firmness by selecting from several drive modes, and they also have the option to choose from five distinct ride heights, with most adjustments being at the driver's discretion.
2025 Model of Lucid Gravity in the Grand Touring
The multi-mode air suspension lacks an automatic setting, placing the onus on the driver to discern the trade-offs between comfort and handling. However, Culliton notes that opting for the Sprint performance mode automatically lowers the Gravity to its minimum clearance. This mode also sharpens the rear-wheel steering response, stiffens the suspension, and shifts the power distribution towards the rear wheels.
These intelligent choices enable sufficient torque for acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in under 3.5 seconds, along with a turning radius of 38 feet. They also facilitate a comfortable seat height that makes it easy to enter and exit the vehicle.
Culliton takes to a secluded road, eager to demonstrate the vehicle's twin-motor drive system, boasting an impressive 828 horsepower and 909 pound-feet of torque. He instructs me to perform a regulated start – pressing the brake, hitting the gas pedal to the max, then letting go – and the Gravity surges forward with a solid grip, without the typical front-end lift experienced in other powerful SUVs during quick accelerations. It seemed as though the Gravity made an aggressive leap forward.
2025 Model of the Lucid Gravity in the Grand Tour
Lucid Gravity maintains a hushed athleticism
Its steering is engagingly nimble, and it possesses a reserved yet expressive character, reminiscent of the Porsche Macan Electric we tested during our search for the Best Car To Buy. Though it's roughly twelve inches less in length, it also boasts the agility-enhancing feature of rear-wheel steering.
The Gravity model I tested came equipped with the biggest and most performance-oriented set of wheels and tires available—a mixed-size set of 22 and 23-inch Pirelli PZero tires that appeared to fully utilize the front wheels' traction capabilities. This particular vehicle gives the impression that it would be great fun on a racetrack, maintaining a balanced and stable feel akin to a sports car when on a high-traction surface.
Additionally, the driving experience with this setup was impressive. The Gravity maintains a firm grip on the road, unlike some competing luxury SUVs that tend to glide excessively. It ensures you're aware of the road's texture, but it's never overwhelming.
Lucid has implemented a soft-mounting technique for the motor in relation to the vehicle's frame, providing a greater level of separation between the drive system and the body compared to the Air model. Despite the relatively smooth roads near Lucid's headquarters in California, pushing the Gravity to higher speeds on the freeway did not reveal any issues. This may speak to the extensive refinement of the vehicle's body and chassis, as well as the potential noise-reducing benefits of the acoustic glass used in the roof.

The interior of the seven-seater appears spacious and well-lit, which is largely due to the extensive use of glass on the roof. This glass not only provides noise reduction and strength but also stretches seamlessly across the vehicle in two segments—one starting at the bottom of the windshield and extending just past the front seats. The second segment continues from that point, covering the space above the third-row seats. It's unique for a three-row SUV to offer such an unobstructed view of the sky.
The most noticeable feature when approaching the car is the surprisingly shallow depth of the cabin's floor, despite the base of the car not being particularly low. An insider informs that the air suspension can adjust the car's clearance from approximately 135 to 235 mm (5.3 to 9.3 inches), indicating that at its lowest, the car's height is practically identical to that of the Air model.
2025 Model of the Lucid Gravity, Grand Touring
Similar to the Air Grand Touring model, the Gravity Grand Touring also features 22 battery modules, with a quartet located on an upper tier. However, unlike in the Air where this tier is situated beneath the rear seats, the Gravity version positions it beneath the front seating area. This design choice facilitates an uninterrupted cargo space that, when the seats are down, extends over eight feet.
The Gravity offers a total of 120.6 cubic feet for storage when the second and third-row seats are collapsed. This is 40% greater than what you'd find in the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, according to Lucid. It also surpasses the Rivian R1S by roughly 15%, with both models featuring a front trunk.
Bach emphasized the vast capacity of the new compact Gravity space concept, suggesting that it encompasses features typically found in much larger vehicles like the Chevy Suburban and others with a substantial body-on-frame build.
Lucid has been relatively quiet about the Gravity model's capacity to tackle off-road challenges, only indicating that it possesses some capability. The vehicle will feature a Terrain mode, which will leverage the stability system utilized in Lucid's high-performance Air Sapphire model. This advanced system monitors the four wheels' activities 1,000 times every second, managing the traction control's braking function for the Gravity at this frequency, though not individually for each of the back wheels. This feature ensures optimal regenerative braking performance, which is maintained across both standard and high settings when easing off the gas pedal, reserving the actual brake pedal use for the brake pads themselves.
Upcoming 2025 Lucid Gravity Luxury Edition
2025 Lucid Gravity Grand Touring Model
2025 Model of the Lucid Gravity in the Grand Tour
At a height of 6-foot-6, I can comfortably fit in the Gravity's back seat with enough room for another person of my stature seated in front.
Bach highlights that throughout the design process, the team prioritized maintaining the flatness of the third-row floor and the functionality of the seats that rotate into a recess at the vehicle's rear. To avoid encroaching on the space available, they opted to divide the active rear steer actuators into two separate parts instead of a single unit, which would have reduced legroom in the third row.
Adding a third row to the Gravity will cost an extra $2,900 and will increase the vehicle's weight by roughly 130 pounds, although the exact weight of the car has not been shared. The creators of the Gravity envision it as a perfect companion for long drives, with the second-row seats designed especially for dining, gaming, and streaming content on personal gadgets. Instead of installing an in-built entertainment system in the back, they have chosen to equip the vehicle with two robust utility tables.
The Gravity ultimately created a solution that seems like it could have been taken directly from the premium seating of an airplane.
2025 Model of the Lucid Gravity in the Grand Tour
We engaged with a variety of individuals including consumers, professionals, and families, and the consensus was clear: they wanted a multipurpose table that could support meals, computers, children's gadgets, and charging capabilities, all while being simple to put away. "I'm extremely pleased with this achievement, as it took considerable effort to bring this to fruition without compromising the space in the second row and ensuring it was sturdy and durable," Jenkins stated.
The rear door, which opens at a 90-degree angle, simplifies the process of securing children into their car seats. Additional engineering measures were taken to reinforce the strength of the latches, and a unique safety feature has been incorporated at a lower level to enhance side impact protection, particularly for collisions that occur just above the bottom edge of the car.
Surprisingly, Lucid managed to position the seating level for the third row above that of the Suburban, resulting in a more comfortable leg posture. Your view won't be limited to just your knees.
Jenkins pointed out that Lucid has paid significant attention to the durability and ease of cleaning for the materials they are using. They are presenting four distinct design options for the Gravity model: Tahoe and Ojai, which feature leather interiors, and Yosemite and Mojave, which boast non-leather alternatives.

Control system within the Gravity: Terrain interaction, gestural inputs, and tactile feedback
The Gravity model retains the core elements of Lucid's established control system but introduces significant refinements. The dashboard presents a more streamlined profile, featuring enhanced air vents that improve temperature regulation and an expanded central unit. At its heart, the vehicle boasts advanced hardware that includes an uninterrupted, edge-to-edge OLED screen providing superior contrast.
Perhaps the most striking feature is that the traditional steering wheel has given way to a "squircle" shape, and from my brief experience behind the wheel, gripping at the 9 and 3 positions felt instinctive during sharp turns and while driving at a fast pace.
Fresh features labeled Vibes introduce mood-enhancing and atmosphere-setting options. Careful consideration has been given to the augmented-reality head-up display content to avoid unnecessary visual noise. Meanwhile, the touchscreen now adopts a wider landscape orientation, equipped with innovative thumb controls that facilitate alert clearance through swiping and a palpable thumb toggle dedicated to navigating menus. With the redesign, menus consistently expand towards the right side.
During my trip, I noticed that certain elements of the dashboard were not fully refined, indicating ongoing efforts to address concerns with control responsiveness and delays in the menu system.
2025 Model of Lucid Gravity in the Grand Touring
Priced as a high-end option but becomes more accessible over time
Lucid has currently only disclosed that the starting price for the Gravity Grand Touring will be $96,550, which includes a $1,650 destination fee and comes with the bigger battery option and a dual-motor that powers all four wheels. The company plans to commence shipping this model by the end of the year. The Touring variant, priced at $81,550 and expected to be available towards the end of 2025, will feature a lesser capacity battery. At this stage, it's reasonable to expect the configurations to be similar to those found in the Air Touring, which is equipped with a smaller 84-kwh battery. Even with the reduced battery size, the calculations suggest the Gravity should easily deliver over 300 miles of range.
Packed with features, the Gravity model offers a high-end experience. The addition of the Dynamic Handling Package includes a system for rear-wheel steering, an advanced air suspension with triple-rate functionality, and uniquely painted brake calipers. For an extra $2,500, the Comfort and Convenience package provides powered rear sunshades, doors that close gently, along with a steering wheel, wipers, and second-row seats that are all heated. There's also the option to upgrade to one of the two tiers of Lucid’s DreamDrive, which offers assistance with driving and enhanced safety measures, at a cost of up to $6,750. Plus, for $750 more, you can get a towing package that allows hauling of loads up to 6,000 pounds.
If you opt for all the available features, such as the Surreal Sound Pro audio system priced at $2,900 and the largest wheel options at 22/23 inches, the complete price for a top-of-the-line Grand Touring model reaches $117,400, which doesn't cover additional aesthetic enhancements.
2025 Model of the Lucid Gravity in its Grand Tour
During my initial test drive, which positively caught my attention, I had a brief experience in a finely-tuned prototype under the supervision of company officials. Unfortunately, I couldn't test it on unpaved roads, and I observed several peculiarities with the controls and touchscreen system. Ideally, these should be resolved by Lucid before customers receive the first batch of vehicles. Manufacturing of the Lucid Gravity has commenced in Arizona as of last week.
Numerous factors contribute to the appeal of this automobile, and it undoubtedly ranks among the top releases of the year. Essentially, if you're in the market for a utility vehicle but yearn for the experience of a sports sedan, this model stands out as the top choice.

Die rollende Festung: Ein exklusiver Blick auf den Mercedes S-Klasse Guard, das zukünftige Fahrzeug des Kanzlers
To enhance the intimacy of your experience
Mercedes S-Class Guard: A Mobile Fortress
No matter who becomes Chancellor next year, this is their official vehicle
The identity of next year’s Chancellor may still be uncertain, but their choice of vehicle is almost pre-determined. Mercedes-Benz has been the primary provider of the head of government's official car since 1949, with the exception of Gerhard Schröder from Lower Saxony who, in 1998, opted for the VW Phaeton and Audi A8 from his preferred automaker. Olaf Scholz, on the other hand, rides in the S 680 Guard model S-Class, a veritable armored fortress on wheels.
At first glance, it appears to be just like any other Mercedes S-Class, sporting the sleek curves and customary sophistication of Stuttgart's premier model. However, to uncover its significantly different essence, one would have to draw a firearm and, say, take aim at the windows. Perhaps one would only achieve a minor crack, if anything at all. Naturally, this would be followed by a substantial amount of trouble…
Photo Gallery: 2021 Mercedes S 680 Guard 4Matic
The vehicle depicted in the image is the armored edition of the Mercedes S-Class, known as the Guard. This fortified model of Mercedes' largest vehicle is tailored for dignitaries, government officials, or prominent public figures who have security concerns. It was introduced in 2021, and we recently got the chance to get an up-close look at this car during a Mercedes event in the Alps, even experiencing it as a passenger.
For what truly matters
The mission of the Mercedes S-Class Guard, officially known as the Mercedes S 680 Guard 4matic, is crystal clear: it is designed to shield against (nearly) all types of assaults while providing the utmost in luxury that the craftsmen of the iconic star brand can deliver.
The protective features have been certified to VPAM VR10, the most rigorous level of ballistic testing designated for civilian vehicles. This signifies that the armored Mercedes S-Class is capable of withstanding rifle fire and blasts (with bombs weighing 12.5 kg detonated just meters away from the vehicle) and has achieved the highest level of safety recorded for a vehicle in its class, offering comprehensive protection from the top, bottom, and sides.
The examinations involved the use of advanced anthropomorphic test devices, designed to mimic not just the human form but also the internal makeup. These devices are composed of materials such as aluminum powder, epoxy resin, silicone, and acrylic to accurately replicate bones and internal organs.
Mercedes S-Class Guard
How does the S-Class Guard manage to be so durable? At its core lies the integrated Safety System (iSS), featuring a modified and reinforced body and exterior that is significantly more resilient than the S-Class Guards of the past.
The windows have been altered as well; they measure 10 cm in thickness, feature a layered composition and are reinforced with a polycarbonate layer to prevent shattering. While they visually resemble the standard S-Class components, these windows can easily withstand gunfire from a variety of firearms. The tires also stand out; equipped with Michelin PAX Run-Flat technology, they can sustain up to 30 km of driving after a tire blowout.
During the test, the S-Class safety doors were examined.
As the vehicle's safety features are enhanced, its weight consequently increases to 4.5 tons, necessitating several adjustments. For instance, the windows, each weighing 70 kg, are operated pneumatically instead of electrically, ensuring functionality even if the onboard electronics fail. Additionally, the doors weigh 200 kg and are designed to open and close easily with one hand, thanks to a hydraulic system. This system allows for easy access to the vehicle even when parked on an incline.
The transmission, bodywork, steering, and several other components have been recalibrated to ensure that the driving experience matches that of the unarmored S-Class variant.
The Pinnacle of Comfort
When it comes to the Mercedes S-Class, it's overflowing with features that arguably place it among the most comfortable cars globally, if not at the very top. The dashboard is brimming with oversized screens, plus there are additional displays attached to the front seats, a compact refrigerator in the back, a choice between a two or three-seat rear bench, and a host of other optional add-ons listed in the official Mercedes price catalogue.
The controls located on the center console vary depending on the model.
Reserved for the security personnel are the interior filters with their own air supply, which automatically kick in when the system detects gas or poison in the cabin, along with the fire detection system, sirens, flashing lights, and front flag holders. Meanwhile, the center console contains a variety of controls that can be customized to the client's preferences. Among these controls are features that allow communication with people outside the vehicle through an amplifier and microphone system, without the need to roll down the windows.
Beneath the hood of the Mercedes S-Class Guard, you'll find a 6-liter twin-turbo V12 engine that's paired with the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. This power unit generates 612 horsepower and 830 Nm of torque, allowing the vehicle to hit a top speed of 190 km/h. For those interested in specifics, the fuel consumption rates at 20 liters per 100 kilometers as per the WLTP cycle. But then again, the specifics of fuel consumption might not be the primary concern for the buyers of this vehicle.
From a Long-standing Tradition
The concept of an armored Mercedes is far from a recent development. The origin dates back to 1928 with the Nürburg 460 model, when Daimler-Benz became the pioneer in fortifying their vehicles with specialized protective measures aimed at safeguarding passengers from gunfire and explosive assaults. This was succeeded by other notable historical versions, including the esteemed "Große Mercedes" Type 770, delivered to Japan's Emperor Hirohito in 1935, and the Type 500.
Increased Tank Presence:
Starting in 1965, Mercedes expanded its lineup of armored vehicles to include the Mercedes 600 sedan and Pullman, as well as the S-Class 280 SEL 3.5, 350 SE/SEL, and 450 SE/SEL. In later years, this extended to the "Kohl S-Class" models W126 and W140, and ultimately to the 2016 Mercedes-Maybach S 600 Guard.

Vom Mythos zur Realität: Aston Martin Valhalla, das 1.079 PS starke Hybrid-Supercar, das den Markt elektrisieren wird
For a more personal touch
Aston Martin Valhalla: Power-packed V8 Hybrid Supercar debuts with 1,079 horsepower
And Fernando Alonso had a hand in it too…
The Aston Martin Valhalla signifies the brand's initial foray into mass-produced mid-engine supercars and also stands as their maiden venture into the plug-in hybrid category. Harnessing cutting-edge tech, impressive power, and a distinctive aesthetic, the British company aims to make a bold statement in the elite supercar arena, challenging giants such as Ferrari F80, Lamborghini Revuelto, and McLaren W1.
According to Wikipedia, the term Valhalla has multiple interpretations. In Norse mythology, it's described as a haven for warriors slain in battle. But how does this connect to Aston Martin's first true supercar? The alternative meaning of Valhalla, which refers to a Spanish power metal group, seems to align more closely with the Aston Martin, especially with the emphasis on "power."
Photo Gallery: 2025 Aston Martin Valhalla
The Valhalla is powered by a hybrid powertrain that delivers a total output of 1,079 horsepower and 1,100 Nm of torque. At the heart of this powertrain is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine producing 828 horsepower, complemented by three electric motors.
Two electric motors are responsible for powering the front axle, with a third one incorporated into the brand new 8-speed dual-clutch transmission that assists the rear axle. This setup allows the Valhalla to attain a top speed of 350 kilometers per hour and sprint from a standstill to 100 kilometers per hour in a mere 2.5 seconds.
Interestingly, the front and rear axles of the vehicle are not physically connected. Instead, the Valhalla manages its all-wheel drive through cutting-edge IVC [Integrated Vehicle Dynamics Control] and Integrated Power Brakes systems. These components are housed in a carbon fiber tub crafted in collaboration with their in-house Formula 1 team. Additionally, the car features aluminum subframes at the front and rear. Aston Martin claims the car's dry weight is 1,655 kilograms, which is 120 kilograms lighter than the Lamborghini Revuelto.
The suspension system is reminiscent of Formula 1 technology. At the front, there's a pushrod arrangement with springs and dampers located internally, while the rear features a five-link system. Bilstein is responsible for providing the adaptive dampers. The carbon-ceramic brakes consist of 6-piston calipers and 410-mm discs at the front, and 4-piston calipers with 390-mm discs at the rear.
A notable characteristic of the Valhalla is its dynamic aerodynamics, crafted in collaboration with Aston Martin Performance Technologies (AMPT). Interestingly, this division also provides counsel to the brand's own Formula 1 team. It's rumored that even the famed racing driver Fernando Alonso has contributed his insights to the car's development.
The active aero technology equips the car to produce over 600 kg of downforce at speeds ranging from 240 km/h to 350 km/h. Active aerodynamics include features such as the Drag Reduction System (DRS) and airbrake, which enhance the vehicle's stability and efficiency at top speeds. The aerodynamic components of the Valhalla are engineered to reduce drag while maximizing downforce, resulting in heightened stability and performance while driving.
The design of the Valhalla represents an evolution of the iconic style associated with Aston Martin. Its body is crafted from carbon fiber, which serves to lessen the overall weight while simultaneously enhancing the vehicle's structural strength and safety features. The doors that open forwards and the Formula 1 influenced roof air intake give the car a distinctive and practical appearance, which also aims to boost the aerodynamics and cooling of the powertrain.
The interior of the Valhalla is just as striking as its exterior. For instance, the seats are crafted from a single piece of carbon fiber. The cockpit is designed with the driver in mind, centralizing all vital information on a touchscreen display that has been specifically created to showcase electric vehicle functions and a graphic representation of the hybrid powertrain. This display provides real-time insights into the powertrain's operations, indicating when energy is being regenerated and when it's being employed to enhance performance.
The Valhalla comes with four selectable driving modes: Sport, Sport+, Race, and EV. Each setting adjusts the configurations for the powertrain, steering, and suspension. In the pure EV mode, the car can travel up to 14 kilometers using only electric power and can achieve a top speed of 140 km/h.
The various modes merge the power of the V8 engine with the quick torque delivery from the electric motors, creating a thrilling and lively driving experience. These modes give the driver the flexibility to tailor the car's performance to suit different driving situations and personal preferences.
The previously mentioned Integrated Vehicle Dynamics control system (IVC) continually checks and enhances the suspension, braking system, steering, active aerodynamics, and powertrain in real-time. This system operates in sync with the four driving modes to boost the car's performance and handling "under all circumstances".
The manufacturing run for the Valhalla is set to be capped at 999 cars, with production slated to kick off in the second quarter of 2025. As for the cost, there's only speculation at this point: reports suggest a price tag of around 850,000 British pounds (equivalent to 1,031,000 Euros). At that price point, the Valhalla is positioned as either a notably pricey rival to the Lamborghini Revuelto, which starts at roughly 500,000 Euros, or a remarkably affordable option when compared to ultra-luxury supercars like the McLaren W1 and the Ferrari F80, whose prices begin at 2.2 million and 3.6 million Euros respectively.

Stellantis Shake-Up: Tavares’ Legacy and the Uncertain Future of the Hemi V8 Engine
To enhance a more personal experience
"Everyone was keen on keeping the Hemi," except former Stellantis CEO Tavares
Sources within Stellantis assert that Tavares was the main force behind the demise of the Hemi V8
As we are all aware, Carlos Tavares has stepped down from his role as CEO of Stellantis. In the wake of his departure, several insiders at the company have emerged to dissect his tenure at the helm. It's not a pretty picture, but one aspect of the whole story is particularly distressing, especially for those who are enthusiasts of traditional combustion engines.
According to a source speaking to CNBC, everyone was keen on keeping [Hemi]. It is believed that Tavares was the main influence in the phase-out of the iconic engine. If Tavares indeed made the decision to discontinue the Hemi-V8 almost single-handedly, it speaks volumes about the significant management issues at play.
The report from CNBC suggests there was some debate about whether Stellantis should be considered a European or an American corporate entity. The head of the company seemed to favor the former option. As a consequence, there was a significant drive to reduce the company's emissions, leading to the phasing out of the Hemi-V8 engine and a swift shift towards electric mobility. This transition to electric is happening at a sluggish pace in the United States, despite the efforts put forth by Tavares.
With the departure of the company's leader, there's a flurry of speculation about what the car manufacturer will do next. A successor is anticipated to be appointed as the new CEO in the coming six months. However, there are already indications that Stellantis aims to ramp up its operations in North America. In a notable move, they've recently brought back Tim Kuniskis, the previous head of Dodge and Ram, to once again take charge of the truck brand.
Kuniskis is widely recognized for his strong support of the Hemi-V8 engine and for being the driving force behind the popular Hellcat performance cars. His quick return after just a few months may signal a significant shift in the company's culture following Tavares' departure.
Is it possible we'll see a revival of the cherished Hemi? Nothing is set in stone, yet consider this: Dodge continues to market Hemi V8 engines as separate components for custom modifications, the Durango Hellcat remains in production, and their hefty pickups are still being equipped with V8 engines. If I were to place a bet, I'd predict the emergence of a V8 version of the new Charger, likely after the release of the electric and inline-six-cylinder models. Let's keep our fingers crossed that my speculation is correct.

Stellantis im Umbruch: Kann Jean-Philippe Imparato dem Autogiganten ein menschliches Gesicht geben?
To enhance a more individual experience
Will Jean-Philippe Imparato Turn Stellantis' Fortunes Around?
The conglomerate reshuffles following Tavares' departure
On a scale from 1 to 10, how fond are you of Stellantis? Should such a poll be conducted, current responses would likely be alarming. The automotive behemoth is experiencing an all-time low in public opinion.
She is burdened by tensions with the unions, complex relationships with governments, and a dealer network that is frustrated by the delayed arrival of new models. In recent days, the situation has reached a tipping point. The resignation of the now former Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares was the first direct consequence.
Photo Gallery: Fiat Grande Panda (2024)
While it's true that the effectiveness of his business strategy can only be assessed over time, there is one aspect where the Portuguese executive has undeniably fallen short in the immediate term: his ability to communicate.
It's uncertain if Stellantis' board, chaired by John Elkann, has formally initiated a project dubbed "Operation Sympathie," but it's evident that a shift towards this direction has become a key strategic focus. This focus is also apparent in the selection of top executives, among whom is a figure, Jean-Philippe Imparato, whom we can expect to hear more about in the months ahead.
A Compassionate Leader for a Significant Challenge
Currently serving as the Chief Operating Officer for Europe, Imparato has been a trusted ally to Tavares, yet represents his polar opposite. Possessing a congenial, amiable grin and favoring a conversational approach over a commanding leadership style, he might just initiate the transformative shift that Stellantis requires, affecting both internal and external dynamics.
The obstacles we face are substantial, including the redesign of manufacturing plants, managing the transition to electric power, repairing damaged relationships, and, importantly, persuading the market that Stellantis possesses a forward-thinking vision.
Jean-Philippe Imparato, the fresh face at the helm of Alfa Romeo within the Stellantis group.
In recent days, Imparato has acted swiftly, not wasting any time. He has made his presence felt through newspaper interviews and television appearances, where he also confirmed the Italian production of the new Fiat 500. Furthermore, he has announced a packed schedule of official meetings, with a significant visit to Italy set for December 17th. Italy is set to play a crucial role as a testing ground, being home to key brands of the conglomerate such as Fiat, Alfa Romeo, and Lancia, as well as a substantial segment of its workforce.
But is that enough? The challenge is multifaceted, and success is not guaranteed from the start. Currently, attention is centered on his initial moves.
Jean-Philippe Imparato is no stranger to challenging roles. Since taking the helm at Alfa Romeo in 2021, he's performed a minor miracle, transforming a loss-making brand with a virtually non-existent product line and an uncertain future. Step by step, he revitalized the company, launching its inaugural hybrid vehicle, the Tonale, and setting the stage for a series of new models, including the upcoming Giulia and Stelvio, set to roll out annually until 2026.

Not Tavares' Successor (For Now)
The other major question mark hangs over the future leadership of Stellantis. Tavares' departure has sparked a scramble to identify the conglomerate's next CEO. Imparato, however, has withdrawn from consideration, stating that he does not see himself fit for the role. His modesty has only increased his popularity, but it may not be enough to put the issue to rest.
Former Chief Executive Officer Carlos Tavares
Jean-Philippe Imparato at the Alfa Romeo Tribe Days 2023
Observers speculate that if Imparato proves himself capable of adeptly handling the delicate European market, he may indeed earn this role through his on-the-ground performance. After all, Stellantis needs a personable figurehead, and he appears to be one of the rare executives who embodies this quality.
Awaiting responses, Stellantis leans into conversation
Jean-Philippe Imparato infuses new energy into a company in need of a narrative shift. However, his mission is far from straightforward. The outcome of his initial actions will be critical to discern if he is indeed the fit for the current situation.
As the anticipation for Tavares' successor continues, Imparato is tasked with maintaining the cohesion of a company in flux. Success in this endeavor may pave the way for him to claim a spotlight of his own. Presently, much hinges on his ability to navigate this formidable challenge. It's possible that his smile may just be the secret asset that enables him to stand out.
Jean-Philippe Imparato takes great pride in his Italian heritage. Born to a family with roots in Apulia, Italy, he came into the world in 1966 in Sète, located in the southern region of France. This background has instilled in him a strong sense of community, the importance of familial bonds, and a deep commitment to his professional life. "My Italian heritage is a constant presence in my life," he often remarks, highlighting the profound impact of Mediterranean culture on his approach to leadership, which has shaped him into a more compassionate and empathetic figure.
Aber Imparato isn't just a businessman. His enthusiasm for cars goes beyond his professional life; he's a true car enthusiast with a particular soft spot for classic Italian brands, which he views as a heritage that needs to be "preserved and promoted." Besides his love for engines, he has a passion for music and describes himself as an eager explorer of culinary delights, favoring the simple yet authentic dishes of Apulia's tradition. His distinctive blend of French discipline and Italian fervor sets him apart from other industry leaders.
"What am I passionate about? Vehicles, folks, and definitely fine dining," he shares, the familiar grin on his face. This combo might just turn out to be lucrative for a task that's both intricate and stimulating: reviving Stellantis.
Further information about the Stellantis Group:
A seasoned professional from Peugeot
Examining his career path, it's clear that Imparato started his journey with the PSA Peugeot Citroën Group in 1991, holding various high-level roles both in France and internationally, including stints in China.
Among his most notable responsibilities has been serving as the CEO of Peugeot since 2016, a position in which he strengthened the brand's market standing and achieved significant commercial triumphs. Additionally, as previously mentioned, he has been at the helm of Alfa Romeo since 2021, focusing on reviving the iconic Italian brand and restoring its past prestige.

2025 Lucid Gravity: The SUV that Drives like a Sport Sedan Reshaping the Automotive Landscape
Test drive impression: The 2025 Lucid Gravity is redefining the SUV category
It was clear that something was off while I maneuvered the 2025 Lucid Gravity test model through the winding ramps close to Lucid's main offices in the California Bay Area just a week ago.
I found myself soaring through the air at a speed greater than I had anticipated. Nevertheless, the uneven road surface did little to diminish the feeling that the Gravity had ample performance left in reserve, exhibiting great composure and equilibrium, substantial steadiness, feedback from the steering, and the potential for enjoyment—if, of course, this were taking place on a private track.
The thing is, the Gravity model is actually an SUV. Yet, in my over a quarter-century experience of testing cars, I've never encountered an SUV that handles like this one. Lucid has impressively tuned its performance to mirror that of a sports sedan, or more accurately, a sports wagon. My internal sense of balance was thrown for a loop, and I found myself repeatedly peering into the rearview mirror, astonished by the two additional roomy, minivan-esque seating rows, which really threw me for a loop.
I assure you, it's positively excellent, judging from a quick meeting with one.

A Fresh Perspective on SUVs
Let's take a moment to reassess: In case you've overlooked Lucid's impressive debut with the Lucid Air sedan, the Gravity SUV highlights the carmaker's unwavering commitment to efficiency in a way that demands attention.
The Air has already showcased its capabilities with its compact, yet potent and efficiency-oriented electric propulsion system. Now, the Gravity is bringing these advancements to a vehicle type that is more likely to resonate with a larger number of American consumers: a three-row SUV. In this instance, we're looking at an SUV that, according to Lucid, is capable of reaching an EPA-rated 450 miles on a single charge, powered by a battery pack that's relatively small for such a task—around 118 kWh. Moreover, it's equipped to gain an additional 200 miles of charge in just 15 minutes when using a 350-kW rapid charging station (initial models will include a CCS port, with plans for a Tesla-like NACS port in the future).
The Lucid Gravity, set to release in 2025, acknowledges the undeniable influences of the marketplace yet adheres to Lucid's unique approach. Therefore, it's expected that the Gravity isn't positioning itself to compete within the realm of square, rugged-treaded SUVs that draw their names from rugged terrains.
"The Gravity will excel at activities like reaching a cabin, traversing dirt trails, and moderate off-roading," explained Derek Jenkins, the head of design. "However, we won't be heading to Utah for rock climbing."
2025 Lucid Gravity Model – Grand Touring Edition
Before I started my test drive, Eric Bach, who is both the chief engineer and the senior vice president for product at Lucid, pointed out to me that their focus wasn't on how fast their cars could go from 0 to 60 mph. He emphasized that when they talk about a vehicle's performance, it could refer to how it handles on a racetrack, its ability to navigate twisty mountain roads, its performance in crash tests, or how it manages noise, vibration, and roughness.
It seems the team at Lucid isn't typically known for their passion for SUVs. However, with this new vehicle, they're likely to alter many people's perspectives.
Lucid prioritizes an aerodynamic design
Lucid focuses on maximizing efficiency to counteract a domino effect of problems. Choosing less efficient parts or designs results in a heavier car due to the need for extra batteries to ensure sufficient range. This, in turn, compromises the space available for occupants and luggage.
In response, the company emphasized to Green Car Reports their satisfaction with the Gravity's size, which is sufficiently large without being excessive. The vehicle measures 198.2 inches in length and has a wheelbase of 119.5 inches. With an approximate height of 65 inches at its lowest adjustment (which we presume), the car is generally shorter than a Subaru Forester, ensuring it will comfortably fit into parking structures.
The Gravity model boasts a slim design that extends in every dimension except its width, which at 78 inches without the mirrors, aligns with the norm for its category. It features a front cross-sectional area, measured in CdA, that surpasses most competitors in aerodynamics, with the exception of Tesla's Model X. It's anticipated that the drag coefficient will be approximately 0.24, although the official figures haven't been released, suggesting there's a chance it may perform even better.
2025 Model of the Lucid Gravity, Grand Touring
Bach made it clear to Green Car Reports that the Gravity is not just a rehashed version of the Air with some superficial changes. Instead, it's an entirely new SUV design, created from the ground up with a flexible configuration of the Air's components, adapted to fit this fresh structure. According to Bach, Lucid aimed to produce an authentic SUV that's not only equipped for off-road adventures but also designed with ample space for both passengers and their cargo.
In terms of aesthetics, Gravity seamlessly aligns with the Air model. Its silhouette stands out as distinct, alongside enhanced dimension in its rear lights, and its front lights are adjusted to stand more upright. This adjustment is primarily to accommodate a broader front trunk space, which optionally includes a net at the front.
The vehicle boasts a pleasing design, featuring a sleek roof and a strong posture. However, it doesn't directly match up with any existing SUVs. As my fellow journalist Joel Feder noted during a test drive of a previous early version of the Gravity model, this car appears to be somewhat of a hybrid—blurring the distinctions between a wagon, a minivan, and an SUV.
I'm not arguing with that. However, the handling of the Gravity is unlike any minivan I've experienced before.

Aims to handle like a Lucid rather than an SUV: Confirmed
The target for the handling was to make the Gravity feel more like driving a Lucid rather than a traditional SUV, explained John Culliton, an expert in chassis and dynamics, during our test drive.
To guarantee performance, the Air's steering rack and basic design are maintained, yet the rear suspension, with its air components, and the rear-steering ability are fresh additions. The front subframe and steering apparatus are fixed firmly in place to maximize feedback. However, in comparison to the Air, the critical connection points have been rearranged for improved load balancing. While every connecting component is newly crafted, the arrangement has been fine-tuned to diminish stress on the steering while employing the identical mechanisms.
According to Bach, the Gravity's frame primarily consists of aluminum, although it incorporates a small percentage of steel – about 2-4% – at certain critical areas. Lucid has employed a large-scale casting technique for creating several components of the body.
Maximizing the aerodynamic shape and the robust, efficient drive mechanism, every model of the Lucid Gravity will be equipped with an air suspension system that can adjust height and dampers that offer continuous adjustments. Various driving modes allow the driver to choose different degrees of damping firmness, and the vehicle can be adjusted to five distinct ride heights, with most of these adjustments being at the driver's discretion.
2025 Model of the Luxurious Lucid Gravity – Grand
The multi-mode air suspension lacks an automatic setting, requiring drivers to discern the trade-offs between comfort and handling themselves. Culliton notes, however, that opting for the Sprint performance mode automatically lowers the Gravity to its minimal ground clearance. This setting also sharpens the rear-wheel steering response, tightens the damping, and shifts the power distribution to favor the rear wheels.
These intelligent choices enable sufficient torque for acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in under 3.5 seconds, along with a 38-foot turning radius. They also ensure a seat height that's conveniently accessible.
Culliton takes advantage of an isolated road to demonstrate the vehicle's powerful twin-motor drive system, which boasts 828 horsepower and 909 pound-feet of torque. He instructs me to perform a measured start by pressing down on the brake, pushing the accelerator to the maximum, and then letting go. When I do this, the Gravity surges forward without the typical front-end lift experienced in other high-performance SUVs during rapid acceleration. It seems as though the Gravity thrusts ahead energetically.
2025 Lucid Gravity Edition – Grand Touring Model
Lucid Gravity boasts a serene athletic nature
Its steering is engaging and fun, while its overall presence remains calm and expressive. It shares traits with the Porsche Macan Electric, which we tested for our Best Car To Buy feature—it's roughly twelve inches less in length, but it's also equipped with rear-wheel steering.
The Gravity model I tested came equipped with the most sizeable and high-performance set of wheels and tires available – a mixed set of 22 and 23-inch Pirelli PZero tires which appeared to optimize the car's grip on the front wheels impressively. This vehicle gives the impression that it will be a blast to drive on a racetrack, maintaining a balanced handling characteristic similar to a sports car when on a well-gripped surface.
Additionally, the driving experience provided by this pairing was impressive. Unlike other high-end SUVs, the Gravity offers a more grounded ride where one can sense the road's surface without it being overwhelming.
Lucid has implemented a soft-mounting technique for the motor in relation to the vehicle's body, which results in enhanced isolation of the drive system from the body, in comparison to the Lucid Air model. Despite the relatively smooth terrain around Lucid's headquarters in California, pushing the Gravity to speeds beyond the typical highway limits didn't reveal any issues. This speaks volumes about the extensive calibration of the body and chassis, and possibly the noise-dampening effect of the acoustic glass used in the roof.

The interior offers ample room for seven passengers and more. It is enhanced by the extensive use of glass on the roof, which contributes to the cabin's open and luminous atmosphere. This special glass, which has both soundproofing and structural qualities, stretches in two seamless sections. The first section spans from the bottom of the front windshield to just past the front seats. The second extends from that point to cover the area above the third-row seats. This design is unique among three-row SUVs, providing an unobstructed view of the sky above.
Upon approaching the car, the most noticeable aspect is the significantly low floor of the passenger area, despite the base of the vehicle not being particularly low. An informant has indicated that the air suspension system allows for a height adjustment ranging from approximately 135 to 235 mm (5.3 to 9.3 inches), indicating that at its minimum height setting, it aligns with the ride height of Air.
2025 Model of the Luxurious Lucid Gravity, Grand
Similar to its counterpart, the Air Grand Touring, the Gravity Grand Touring model also features 22 battery modules. However, in this model, four modules are positioned on a higher tier. While the Air situates these beneath the back seats, the Gravity shifts them beneath the front seating area. This adjustment creates an uninterrupted cargo space that extends over eight feet when the seats are collapsed.
Factoring in the extra room from the front trunk, Lucid claims that the Gravity offers a total cargo capacity of 120.6 cubic feet when you collapse the second and third-row seats. That's a substantial 40% increase over the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV and roughly 15% greater than the storage space in the Rivian R1S, which similarly features a front trunk.
Bach emphasized the vast capacity required, akin to that of a massive vehicle like the Chevy Suburban, to accommodate the numerous features they are able to incorporate into the compact Gravity space concept.
Lucid has been relatively quiet about the Gravity model's capability to handle rugged terrain, only indicating that it possesses some capability. The vehicle's Terrain mode will utilize a stability system similar to the one found in the high-performance Lucid Air Sapphire. This advanced system monitors the vehicle's four wheels' movements 1,000 times every second, managing the braking aspect of the traction control at this frequency for the Gravity, although it does not do so for each of the back wheels independently. This feature ensures optimal regenerative braking performance, which continues to be available in both standard and enhanced forms when decelerating, thus reserving the actual brake pedal for use with the brake pads only.

2025 Model of the Lucid Gravity in its Grand Tour
At a height of 6-foot-6, I can comfortably sit behind another person of my own height in the Gravity, even in the back seat.
Bach explains that during the engineering phase, numerous choices were made to ensure the third-row flooring remained level and the seats could pivot into a recess at the vehicle's rear. One such decision involved dividing the active rear steering mechanisms into two parts instead of opting for a single unit, which would have infringed upon the leg space in the third row.
Adding a third row to the Gravity will cost an additional $2,900 and will increase the vehicle's weight by approximately 130 pounds, although the exact weight of the vehicle has not been revealed. The designers envision the Gravity as perfect for long drives, with the second row being ideal for dining, gaming, and using electronic devices. Consequently, they decided to install robust utility tables instead of an integrated entertainment system for the back passengers.
The Gravity ultimately came up with a solution that seems like it's straight from a premium airplane seating area.
2025 Model of the Lucid Gravity in the Grand Tour
We engaged with various groups – consumers, corporate professionals, and families alike – and they all had the same request: they needed a versatile table for dining, working on their computers, a spot for children's iPads, with charging capabilities, and one that could be conveniently put away. "I take great pride in this achievement," Jenkins stated. "It required significant effort to bring this to fruition without compromising on the space in the second row, ensuring it was both sturdy and reliable."
The rear door, designed to open at a 90-degree angle, facilitates the placement of children in car seats. This feature required additional engineering to ensure the durability of the latches. Moreover, the doors are equipped with a unique safety catch that enhances side impact protection, particularly at points above the bottom edge of the door frame.
Surprisingly, Lucid managed to position the seating level for the third-row higher than that of the Suburban, which results in a more comfortable leg posture. Your view won't be restricted to just your knees.
Jenkins mentioned that Lucid has given considerable attention to the durability and ease of cleaning of its materials. The Gravity model presents four distinct interior options: Tahoe and Ojai, which feature leather, and Yosemite and Mojave, which are furnished with non-leather alternatives.

Control Panel Design: Terrain Adaptation, Gestures, and Tactile Feedback
The interior of the Gravity model retains some elements of Lucid's signature design approach while introducing modifications. The dashboard has been streamlined further and now features enhanced air vents that improve temperature regulation, alongside an expanded central console. At its core, the vehicle boasts a seamless OLED screen that stretches across the dashboard, providing uninterrupted viewing and sharper image quality.
Perhaps the most remarkable feature is the substitution of the traditional steering wheel with a "squircle" design. From the brief time I spent driving, my hands comfortably settled into the 9 and 3 positions, whether I was navigating sharp turns or moving at a fast pace.
The company has introduced innovative settings known as Vibes that enhance the mood and atmosphere. They've meticulously reviewed the content presented in the augmented-reality heads-up display to avoid any unnecessary visual noise. Additionally, the touchscreen now adopts a wider, landscape orientation and incorporates novel thumb controls. These include a swipe feature for easily clearing notifications and a tangible thumb button for navigating through menus. With the updated design, menus consistently appear on the right side.
During my journey, it was apparent that certain aspects of the user interface were under development, with the goal of resolving a few concerns related to the responsiveness of controls and the speed of menu navigation.
2025 Model of the Lucid Gravity in the Grand Tour
The Gravity Grand Touring from Lucid, while starting with a steep price tag of $96,550 (destination fee included), promises more affordability in the future. This model, equipped with a larger battery and an all-wheel-drive system powered by two motors, is scheduled to begin reaching customers by the end of the year. A less expensive version, the Touring model priced at $81,550, is expected to hit the market in late 2025 with a reduced-capacity battery. At this stage, it's reasonable to anticipate similar configurations to the Air Touring, which comes with an 84-kWh battery pack. Even with the smaller battery, the Gravity is projected to deliver an impressive range exceeding 300 miles.
The Gravity is packed with features that push it into the high-end category. Opting for the Dynamic Handling Package equips the vehicle with a steering system for the rear wheels, an advanced air suspension with three settings, and color-matched brake calipers. Additionally, for $2,500, the Comfort and Convenience package includes powered shades for the rear windows, doors that close gently, a steering wheel that stays warm, wipers that are heated, and warmth for the seats in the second row. Lucid's DreamDrive system, which assists with driving and includes safety measures, is available in two tiers, costing up to $6,750. Plus, a towing package available for $750 allows the vehicle to tow as much as 6,000 pounds.
Opt for all the extras, like the high-end Surreal Sound Pro audio system priced at $2,900 and the largest available wheels (22/23 inches), and the complete price for a top-of-the-line Grand Touring hits $117,400. This sum doesn't cover additional aesthetic enhancements.
2025 Model of the Lucid Gravity in the Grand Tour
During my initial experience behind the wheel, I was quite impressed, although it was a brief session in a finely-tuned prototype supervised by company officials. Unfortunately, I didn't have the opportunity to test it on unpaved roads, and I observed some peculiarities with the controls and touchscreen system which, ideally, Lucid will rectify before the first batch of cars reach their owners. The manufacturing of the Lucid Gravity commenced in Arizona just last week.
Numerous factors contribute to the appeal of this automobile, solidifying its position as one of the standout options of the year. Essentially, if you're in the market for an SUV but yearn for the experience of a sport sedan, this model represents the forefront of choices.

Honda’s 2025 Vision: Personalized Experience and Automotive Innovation with the HR-V Facelift and All-New Prelude
To enhance a more individualized experience
Honda: A Preview of the 2025 Highlights
Next year, attention will center on the refreshed HR-V and the debut of the new Prelude by the Japanese brand.
For years, Honda's presence in Germany has been somewhat disheartening. Despite producing quality vehicles, the Japanese powerhouse has not transcended a niche status, currently positioned at 29th in the brand popularity rankings.
Looking ahead to 2025, Honda has introduced a range of significant updates to its lineup. The focus is on the HR-V crossover which will undergo both visual and feature enhancements for the upcoming year, while maintaining its 1.5 full hybrid powertrain. Additionally, there's buzz around the initial reveal (or at least preliminary details) of the Prelude, a hybrid sports coupe that's expected to make its way to the European market soon.

Following its initial launch in Japan in March, Honda has revealed plans to roll out the latest iteration of the HR-V in European markets. This refreshed version of the small crossover features a variety of updates in design and technology. The 2025 HR-V is distinguished by a revamped front grille with sharper lines and a modernized set of taillights.
The interior maintains a similar design to the previous version. Key features include a 7-inch driver's display and a 9-inch touchscreen for the entertainment system. The most significant updates are to the center console, which has been redesigned for improved ergonomics.
There are no modifications to the engine; it continues to be the 1.5 full hybrid with 131 horsepower. Honda has made improvements to the energy management system, however, to enhance both efficiency and the driving experience. This approach proved successful with the Jazz two years ago in reducing the "rubber band effect."
Honda Prelude Concept Showcased at Japan Mobility Exhibition
The Prelude, which was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2023, is set to be released as a production model between the years 2025 and 2026. This sports coupe will feature a three-door design and will share the same platform and engines as the Civic. The stylishly designed coupe revives the legacy of its namesakes from the 1980s and 1990s.
Beneath the hood, it is expected to house a full hybrid engine with 210 horsepower and rear-wheel drive. Additional information, including pricing and a precise launch date for the European market, is anticipated later in the year.

VW T7 Transporter Pritschenwagen: Ein ikonisches Nutzfahrzeug neu erfunden

Volkswagen T7 Transporter Flatbed Truck: A Glimpse at the Double Cabin
The latest double cabin model, built on a Ford foundation, debuts in Germany starting at 45,565 euros.
Over recent months, we've extensively covered the launch of the new Volkswagen T7 Transporter, which is manufactured by Ford in Turkey. The commercial vehicle's range continues to expand with more options. This includes the double cabin version, a popular choice in the trades and crafts sector and an iconic feature since the era of the T1.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has released initial images from their configurator, showcasing the "Transporter Chassis Double Cab" (that's the official title). Let's take a closer look at this model. Standard features include LED headlights and daytime running lights, a flatbed with aluminum drop sides, safety locks with a fold-out step, an adjustable 4-way driver's seat, a rear 3-seater bench, a front dual passenger seat with a loading function under the seat, and two-tone robust artificial leather seat covers. Additionally, it comes with 16-inch steel wheels.

The vehicle is equipped with a foldable glove compartment, a slim center console featuring cupholders and a slot for a mobile phone (to accommodate three front passengers), a radio with a 13-inch touch color display and wireless app connectivity for both Apple and Android devices, and central locking with a "Keyless Start" system. The truck also includes the now mandatory suite of safety features, such as an emergency braking system that identifies pedestrians and cyclists, offering evasive maneuver support and a turning assistant, a lane-keeping assistant "Lane Assist," traffic sign recognition, and a wrong-way driving warning system.
The vehicle features a fixed wheelbase of 3.50 meters due to its flatbed design. The double cab version has a curb weight of approximately 2.2 tons with the driver included. Depending on the number of passengers, the payload capacity ranges from 215 to 693 kilograms, with a towing capacity of up to two tons. The overall length of the vehicle is 5.58 meters, and it measures 2.15 meters in width when the side mirrors are folded in – a handy detail for maneuvering on construction sites. Additionally, it's worth noting that the internal width of the flatbed is 1,945 millimeters, and the internal length is 2,169 millimeters.
Volkswagen Pickup Truck with Double Cabin (2024)
Turning our attention to the engines, they are of course all diesel-powered. The starting model delivers 81 kW (110 horsepower) and comes with a six-speed manual transmission, priced at 46,565 euros. For the 110 kW (150 horsepower) version, the cost in Germany is precisely 48,957 euros, excluding any additional features, with the price rising to 56,626 euros if you opt for the all-wheel drive version. This variant comes standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The crew cab variant is available as a fully electric model, thanks to the Ford platform. It's priced at 62,106 euros (including VAT), equipped with a 64 kWh battery and an output of 100 kW (136 horsepower). Higher up in the range, there's a 160 kW (218 horsepower) version priced at 64,254 euros and the top-of-the-line model with 210 kW (286 horsepower) which costs 66,294 euros, essentially the crew cab GTX. Volkswagen has not yet disclosed the driving ranges for these electric models. The closely related Ford Transit/Tourneo Custom has a listed range of 337 kilometers.

What additional features are available? The standard color option is "Stone Grey", with the sought-after "Clear White", as well as red and dark blue also offered at no extra cost. However, opting for a metallic paint finish will set you back more than 1,000 euros. For an additional 333 euros, you can get an off-road package that includes front and rear mud flaps and a steel skid plate to protect the engine and transmission.
The standalone air conditioning unit is priced at 1,350 Euros, but it comes at a slightly reduced rate when included in the "Comfort Package." The navigation system is available for approximately 800 Euros. For 405 Euros, there's the notable option of manual DPF regeneration. Additionally, an upgrade to allow a maximum gross vehicle weight of 3.3 tons is available for 1,700 Euros.

Decade of Revolution: Tracking the Evolution of Green Cars Through Green Car Reports’ Best Car to Buy Winners
List of Previous Champions for Green Car Reports' Top Vehicle Purchase
Our annual selection for the Green Car Reports' Top Vehicle Purchase, ranging from the Nissan Leaf to the Lucid Air and F-150 Lightning, including notable vehicles like the Toyota Prius, Chevy Volt, and Tesla Model 3, has not only provided recommendations on the best purchases but also a preview of what's to come in automotive innovation.
Ever since the prize was first introduced in 2010 for the 2011 lineup, the criteria for winning have evolved. This change mirrors the transformation in the eco-friendly vehicle sector, which has moved on from the previous focus on budget-friendly vehicles to, as of last year, a selection dominated by higher-end models with steeper price tags.
In a major overhaul of our eligibility criteria in 2017, we removed the price limit of $60,000. Our goal is to embrace a broader spectrum of electric vehicles, beyond just the larger, high-end models, particularly as an increasing number of families consider adding a second or third electric vehicle for daily travel. Consequently, we have also discarded the former stipulation that electric vehicles must have a minimum range of 200 miles.
Reflecting on the past 14 victors, the common factor among our selections is clear: Each one was a plug-in model or had an available plug-in variant.
Scholarly articles, esteemed scientific authorities, vehicle manufacturers, and oversight bodies have all come together.
2011 model of
Centered on the belief that in most standard scenarios, electric vehicles are more eco-friendly, we delve into topics such as plug-in hybrids and various methods to enhance efficiency and reduce energy consumption. We acknowledge that not all solutions fit every individual, such as those living in apartments, and aim to highlight optimal practices while encouraging all to aim for improvement.
Here is a compilation of our previous winners for the Best Car To Buy award:
2011 Model of
The 2011 Nissan Leaf sparked the revolution of contemporary electric vehicles, being the initial affordable model to operate solely on electricity without any emissions.
In 2009, our initial experience with the Nissan Leaf's engine and performance capabilities came while it was fitted within a Nissan Cube's square frame, during the final phases of the Leaf's development. Funnily enough, this combination could have potentially boosted the Leaf's popularity in the United States.
With a 73-mile capacity, the 2011 Nissan Leaf proved to be a practical option for the average American driver, demonstrating that electric vehicles can be secure, dependable, and cost-effective to maintain. Over time, with several enhancements, such as significant battery upgrades, Nissan has successfully sold around 600,000 Leafs worldwide.
2012 Model of Toyota Prius
The Prius lineup in 2012 saw the introduction of the Toyota Prius V, a larger wagon variant which expanded on the classic Prius design, offering increased cargo capacity and more versatile rear seating arrangements, all while maintaining the notable fuel efficiency of the Prius. Additionally, the Prius Plug-In Hybrid made its debut, featuring the ability to travel up to 6 miles purely on electric power.
While these two models didn't revolutionize the market, enhancing the attractiveness of what was at the time the most gas-sipping series of cars certainly merited commendation. Reflecting on the past, it marked a progressive move by Toyota to spread its hybrid technology through various models in its range.
2013 Version of Tesla's
Taking the 2013 Tesla Model S for a spin was an eye-opening experience, showcasing the rapid advancements in the electric car industry. We were in awe of its 17-inch touch-screen display, praising its speed, clarity, and user-friendliness that rendered other control systems obsolete in comparison. Our overall impression of the Model S was highly positive, emphasizing its remarkable qualities as a car in its own right, with its eco-friendly nature being an added bonus rather than its defining feature.
Back in 2012, Tesla was beginning to establish its network of Superchargers and it was widely believed that they had a superior plan for the placement of DC fast-charging stations—strategically positioned along major roadways for drivers embarking on long-distance journeys across the nation.
2014 Model of the Honda Accord with Plug-In
The popular Accord sedan model was selected by Honda to debut their innovative Two-Mode hybrid technology, which primarily uses an electric motor for propulsion. We were impressed by the 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid due to its quick performance compared to other hybrids and its ability to achieve 40 mpg on actual roads. Additionally, this system smoothly transitioned into the fully electric driving experience offered by the Accord Plug-In Hybrid, although this variant was not broadly distributed.
Honda has recently integrated the most recent iteration of this system into the CR-V and the Accord. However, with the discontinuation of the Clarity Plug-In Hybrid, the concept of plug-in vehicles has been shelved for the time being.
Comparison Between the 2015 Models of the Volkswagen e-Golf and the Volkswagen Golf TDI
Volkswagen Golf Range for 2015
Volkswagen introduced a new modular design for the Golf series in the 2015 model year, which was launched in 2014. This innovative architecture greatly simplified the manufacturing of various powertrain configurations, a claim Volkswagen quickly substantiated by rolling out models with gasoline, TDI diesel, and an electric variant called the e-Golf. Despite the TDI's commendable fuel economy, the e-Golf stole the spotlight in our view. It boasted a battery capacity of 24.2 kWh and a range of 83 miles, delivering a lively and dynamic ride that edged out competitors like the Leaf. However, the acclaim for these vehicles was later overshadowed by the Volkswagen diesel emissions controversy, casting a shadow over this accolade in hindsight.
2016 Model of
2016 Chevrolet Volt
The initial version of the Chevy Volt set high standards for eco-friendly vehicles; however, the revamped 2016 model surpassed expectations with enhanced plug-in hybrid capabilities, increasing its attractiveness and possibly making conventional compact cars from the same era, such as the Chevy Cruze, redundant (resulting in GM's decision to cease production of both models within a three-year span).
The 2016 Chevy Volt remained faithful to the idea of a range-extended electric vehicle, boasting improvements like increased electric range, an enhanced driving interface, a redesigned interior, and upgraded cabin materials. Offering 53 miles solely on electric power followed by 42 mpg, the Volt proved significantly more user-friendly on a daily basis. At the time, we mentioned, "The 2016 Volt could easily be the sole vehicle we rely on. It's truly that impressive."
2017 Model of the Chevy
The 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV stood out as a top choice for our award in 2017, which was announced in November 2016, thanks to its roomy cabin, lively performance, and impressive 238-mile range as per EPA ratings. This American-manufactured electric vehicle was hailed as a significant achievement, akin to a modern counterpart of the first Nissan Leaf, offering a Tesla-like driving range at about half the cost.
2017 Model of the Hybrid Chrysler
The 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid may have subtle branding, but it's actually a plug-in hybrid vehicle. It has the capacity to carry seven passengers and can travel up to 33 miles solely on electric power, provided you don't press the accelerator too hard. This vehicle is designed with active families in mind rather than technology enthusiasts. Simplicity is key for this minivan; just charge it overnight and it will use the electric charge first, automatically. If the electric charge is depleted, you're not stranded; you still have a roomy van that offers a combined 32 miles per gallon.
2019 version of the Tesla
2019 Tesla Model 3
The Tesla Model 3, which began initial deliveries in mid-2017, was only reaching a select group of early buyers gradually when we were evaluating contenders for our 2018 award. Therefore, we deferred our judgment and included the Model 3 in the next year's competition, where it emerged victorious. We praised the Model 3's dynamic performance and well-balanced handling, criticized its overly simple user interface and inconsistent build quality, and acknowledged its superior efficiency compared to other long-range electric vehicles and its technological edge over competitors. We referred to the Model 3 as potentially the world's most technologically sophisticated electric vehicle, notably highlighting its capacity for updates delivered wirelessly.
The expansive Supercharger infrastructure and exceptional journey mapping provided by Tesla eliminated all skepticism. When compared to the other two electric vehicle contenders, the Hyundai Kona Electric and Jaguar I-Pace, we stated that the Model 3 stood out as “the sole option for a nationwide trip with a guaranteed arrival.”
2020 Model of the Audi E-Tron Sportback
Since our initial encounter with the Audi E-Tron SUV in the latter part of 2018, it was evident that a significant evolution was underway for the esteemed German automaker. This exceptional electric SUV was a clear signal of Audi's direction: a decisive move towards electrically powered vehicles without altering the essence of the brand. The E-Tron SUV, followed by the Sportback variant, seamlessly integrated into Audi's traditional lineup of gas-powered vehicles, losing none of their appeal while enhancing their opulence. Although its initial range of 204 miles wasn't impressive, the reliable performance in terms of range consistency and charging capabilities compensated for this drawback.
It appears that consumers place significant importance on the EPA's range figure, a concern that Audi has tackled with their updated version now available at dealers, the 2024 Q8 Audi E-Tron.
Initial Release of the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E First Edition
2021's Eco-Friendly Standout: Ford Mustang Mach-E
It's quite unexpected, but the Mustang has emerged as the standout eco-friendly vehicle this year. Following extensive test drives by all of our editors, the decision for the Best Car To Buy was not only agreed upon by all, but also made with absolute certainty.
In our analysis, we highlighted that the Mach-E shouldn't be labeled as the ultimate Tesla competitor. We actually consider it superior to the Model Y in various ways and believe it might signal a pivotal moment for the wider acceptance of electric vehicles. It certainly hits the mark for numerous Americans who are interested in electric vehicles but don't envision owning a Tesla.
2021 model of the Lucid
2022 Lucid Air
What justifies calling a vehicle that launches with a $170,000 price tag in its initial Dream Edition model our Best Car To Buy?
This was the anticipated inquiry last year, as our belief was—and remains—firm that the technology Lucid possesses is not only ready for mass production but also set to revolutionize the electric vehicle sector. At a minimum, the impressive efficiency, extensive driving range, and superior performance of the Lucid Air are expected to hasten the evolution of the industry, optimizing the use of critical battery resources. Lucid captured everyone's attention when its Lucid Air Dream Edition Range achieved 520 miles and the Air Grand Touring reached 516 miles, both surpassing Tesla's standards. In 2023, excitement reached new heights with the tri-motor Air Sapphire outperforming Tesla's Model S Plaid, and anticipation is building for the late 2024 release of the Lucid Gravity SUV.
2022 Edition of the Ford F-150 Lightning
2023's Ford F-150 Lightning
While it wasn't the pioneer in the electric truck segment, the F-150 Lightning has certainly cemented the transition to electric vehicles as a definite trend, a notable feat considering the F-150's status as the top-selling vehicle in America. The Lightning model might not boast the best efficiency, and during its crowning as our Best Car To Buy in 2023, Ford was navigating through a series of surprising price fluctuations—both increases and decreases—rarely seen with a new release. Should Ford suggest a drop in consumer interest, it would likely be a consequence of their own pricing strategies.
To put it another way, the Lightning stands as an impressive achievement both at its inception and today. It's a testament to Ford's dedication to electric vehicles, arriving on the scene fully developed, accessible across the entire United States, and equipped to utilize its battery pack to supply power to homes. Despite fluctuations in pricing and value, it unquestionably merits its top-ranking status.
Upcoming 2024 model of the Kia
The 2024 Kia EV9 stands out with its spacious, three-row electric SUV design, offering a travel distance of over 300 miles on a single charge at an affordable cost. This SUV impresses with its smooth driving experience, intuitive controls, and a certain degree of capability on rough terrain. Quick charging capabilities that take the battery from 10% to 80% in under 25 minutes and the option for reverse charging that can power your home are significant pluses. True to their word, Kia has ensured the EV9 is readily accessible, and just a year after its release, it's being manufactured in Georgia, earning it the title of 2024 Best Car To Buy.
What's the outlook for 2025? Check out our top contenders for Best Car To Buy and stay tuned for the announcement of the winner on January 6th.

Green Car Reports Unveils Finalists for Best Car To Buy 2025: A Glimpse into the Future of Eco-Friendly Driving
Annual Selection of Top Car for 2025: Five Contenders Identified by Green Car Reports
Green Car Reports annually evaluates the most eco-friendly and innovative vehicles that contribute to a more sustainable environment.
On January 6th, we will announce the winner of the Green Car Reports Best Car To Buy 2025 award. Stay tuned for a brief overview of the contenders and our selection criteria. In the coming weeks, we'll provide a detailed analysis of each vehicle's qualifications.
2025 Chevy Equinox Electric Vehicle
The 2025 Chevy Equinox EV is an affordable choice at $34,995, offering an EPA range of 319 miles. This electric vehicle is designed like the highly favored family-style wagon-like crossover SUV. With the potential addition of a $7,500 EV tax credit, this model becomes an even more economical option for families looking to escape the need for gasoline and exhaust systems. The reason it's noteworthy is that it brings the electric vehicle market to the average consumer in a practical, family-friendly format, not just as a compact car for solo commutes.
2025 Model of the Hyundai Kona Electric
Hyundai Kona Electric
Are you wondering what happened to the compact yet functional electric vehicles perfect for city life? This year in the American market, the Hyundai Kona Electric emerges as the latest option. Though not exclusively an electric model, it outperforms its gasoline counterpart with superior driving dynamics and power. The entry-level Kona Electric SE comes equipped with a fairly sizable 48.6-kWh battery, offering a respectable 200 miles per charge according to EPA standards, sufficient for daily commutes. Higher trims like the SEL and Limited boast a larger 64.8-kWh battery, extending the range to 261 miles. The interior of the car has been significantly refined and coupled with substantial tech enhancements, resulting in a vehicle that's not only easy to maneuver in tight spaces but also rich in features.
Upcoming Electric Porsche Macan Model Set for
Porsche Macan Goes Electric
Initially dubbed Mission E and later unveiled as the Taycan, this unique project was Porsche's response to Tesla, marking a shift towards electrification for the iconic sports car maker. Porsche is now leveraging the insights gained from the Taycan's development to enhance its best-selling vehicle, the Macan SUV. The Macan will be built on a new platform that addresses the Taycan's initial limitations in range and efficiency, reduces the size of essential components for weight efficiency, and improves upon acceleration, charging capabilities, and energy recovery from braking. Some models will also feature rear-wheel steering and an air suspension system, positioning the electric Macan as the essence of both Porsche's legacy and the high-end performance luxury SUV segment.
2025 Model of Rivian R1S
The Rivian R1S has been selected as a top contender for our Best Car To Buy award, typically reserved for vehicles that are brand new or have undergone significant redesigns or engineering updates. Despite being on the market for a few years, the R1S made the cut. While its exterior may not have changed drastically, the R1 series from Rivian has improved across the board, which is why it's earned a spot on our list.
The redesigned electric pickups have secured their position thanks to improvements in their battery packs, motors, frame design, and a more streamlined electrical system. They also feature an upgraded sensor array and a more user-friendly interface. The R1S model outperforms others in terms of efficiency, ride quality, and handling. Although it hasn't reached the promised 800-volt or two-way charging capabilities, or shown any considerable increase in charging speed, the vehicle introduces advancements in production and a range of technologies that can be expanded for use in the upcoming mainstream R2 and R3 versions.
The 2025 model of the Volkswagen ID
Volkswagen ID.Buzz
It's highly unlikely that the recent buzz has escaped your attention unless you've been isolated from the mainstream for years: Volkswagen has revived the classic Bus, this time as an electric vehicle. It's a clever strategy, playing on the fond memories associated with the 1960s cultural symbol, while simultaneously introducing you to an up-to-date cabin experience. This move positions you in an entirely unique category of family transport—the inaugural electric minivan in the U.S. market, potentially signaling the beginning of a fresh electric vehicle category.
With everything considered, there's a mix of advantages and disadvantages to weigh. The ID.Buzz's arrival in the U.S. has been delayed, and it's hitting the market as an elongated, three-row variant that commands a heftier price. While it boasts an enlarged battery, this addition disrupts the flat-floor design and the vehicle's EPA range is capped at a mere 234 miles. However, it does offer all-wheel drive, exhibits a lively driving experience, and comes with a satisfactory user interface, ensuring it meets all practical requirements while still maintaining its appeal.

The criteria for selecting Green Car Reports' Top Car Purchase
The consensus among scrutinized academic studies and esteemed scientific literature is that, for the majority of common scenarios, electric vehicles have a more positive environmental impact.
It's understood that the construction of an electric vehicle, the production of its battery, and the procurement of necessary materials contribute to its overall environmental impact. However, this is balanced out when compared to gasoline-powered vehicles over several years of the electric vehicle's usage. Nevertheless, when evaluating an electric vehicle, we take into account the battery's capacity and ascertain if it's genuinely essential for the vehicle's intended use.
By reducing exhaust fumes from vehicles, the health benefits for both your local area and your own home are swift and favorable.
Prioritizing Effectiveness
Indeed, while distance capability is important for electric vehicles, models with limited range and smaller batteries can sometimes be the most eco-friendly options for certain homes. As more families opt for electric alternatives for their additional cars, there's often no necessity for extensive range in each one.
Indeed, our selection for the top range performer was the Lucid Air two years back, yet it wouldn't have secured the spot if it wasn't also among the most energy-efficient electric vehicles.

Significant Market Influence—Immediate or Future-focused
The chosen vehicle for The Best Car To Buy award must significantly influence the market, whether that's in the immediate future or over time. This influence could manifest through dominating sales and being cost-effective, electrifying a previously untapped market niche, or establishing unprecedented benchmarks in fuel economy or technological advancements. Excellence is a prerequisite, but as evidenced by previous recipients of The Best Car To Buy honor, this excellence can be embodied in a variety of ways.
Plug-in hybrids' slippery slope
Green Car Reports consistently tracks the advancements in hybrid and plug-in hybrid tech in cars, acknowledging that a rigid stance isn't always the most effective strategy for promoting fleet electrification or persuading the broader public to opt for eco-friendlier options. For the benefit of the environment, a compromise can be more favorable than bypassing the opportunity to choose a more sustainable vehicle altogether.
Eliminating high-efficiency versions that take advantage of regulatory gaps with a charging socket, plug-in hybrid vehicles continue to be a compelling option. This is particularly true when the existing network of charging stations is insufficient for longer journeys, but motorists are committed to maintaining a no-emission drive for their daily travels. Plug-in hybrids designed with an emphasis on energy conservation are arriving with the capability to travel 40, 60, or even more miles solely on electric power. Could these vehicles attract a different demographic of consumers to consider electric charging?
In light of these considerations, the introduction of a new internal combustion engine vehicle, which could potentially contribute to pollution for many years, sets a stringent standard for inclusion on our Best Car To Buy list. Unfortunately, this year, no new models have met this criteria.

Electrifying Downturn: Lion Electric’s Struggle to Stay Afloat Amidst Manufacturing Halts and Potential Tariffs
Canadian manufacturer of electric school buses, Lion Electric, is experiencing economic struggles and is seeking assistance, according to Bloomberg. The company has also halted operations at its Illinois facility.
On Sunday, Lion revealed plans to let go of 400 employees, which constitutes over 50% of its staff, and declared a halt in production at its American manufacturing plant located in Joliet, Illinois. Back in 2021, when the facility was first introduced, Lion had claimed it would become the biggest manufacturer of medium and heavy-duty electric vehicles in the United States.
Lion, along with Blue Bird and Thomas Built Buses, stands as one of the trio of businesses that have supplied the bulk of electric school buses in the United States. This surge in electric bus deployment is a result of efforts to phase out polluting diesel-powered buses, propelled by various state and federal incentives.

Mach Capital, which is the financial branch of Groupe Mach Inc., a real estate firm from Canada, is reportedly engaged in discussions to inject more capital into Lion, based on information from a source who wished to remain unnamed. Last year, both Groupe Mach and the Mirella & Lina Saputo Foundation were part of an investment consortium that acquired stakes totaling over 90 million Canadian dollars.
Quebec has provided Lion with a substantial investment of 192 million Canadian dollars. Speaking to Bloomberg and various news outlets on Monday, the economy minister, Christine Frechette, indicated that the region is open to offering more financial support contingent on the viability of the business plan and the involvement of stakeholders other than the government.

Lion stands among a select few producers advocating for the switch from diesel to electric school buses. This shift has gained momentum in the United States, propelled by a surge in state and federal support. The Environmental Protection Agency is allocating $5 billion towards electric school bus funding, as directed by the infrastructure legislation under President Biden's tenure. This resulted in a disbursement of $965 million in the previous year and an additional $1 billion in the early part of this year. However, the prospects ahead appear less promising.
Lion, a Canadian firm that manufactures vehicles in the United States, could face challenges from the anticipated Trump administration's plans to impose a 25% tariff on automotive parts imported from Canada. Additionally, the future of Biden's policies that support electric vehicles is uncertain with Trump's presidency. This could lead to a significant price increase for Lion's electric school buses, posing a financial burden for school districts with limited budgets.
