2025 GMC Sierra EV Ushers in New Era of Electric Trucks with Enhanced Range and Fresh Models

The 2025 GMC Sierra EV can travel as far as 460 miles and introduces a more affordable model

GMC's luxury truck division is embracing electric vehicles with the introduction of the electric GMC Sierra EV pickup and the electric GMC Hummer lineup, which includes both SUVs and pickups. However, unlike its Chevrolet counterpart, it has not offered versions designed for labor-intensive tasks.

The GMC Sierra EV shares the same mechanics as the Chevrolet Silverado EV, although it features unique design elements and accessories that align with the existing gas and diesel versions of the Sierra. Despite their similarities, both the Silverado EV and Sierra EV have distinct underpinnings compared to their gas and diesel versions, as they are constructed on the foundation of GM's sizable pouch cells, which were created in collaboration with LG.

Up to this point, the 2024 GMC Sierra EV has been available solely as the Denali Edition 1, boasting a substantial battery capacity and a GM-projected range of 440 miles according to EPA estimates. For the 2025 model year, GMC plans to enhance the Sierra EV Denali with increased range and improved towing capabilities. Although versions designed for work purposes are still not offered, GMC has announced that the Elevation and AT4 models of the Sierra EV will be introduced later in the 2025 cycle.

You have the option to select from two different battery sizes depending on your desired driving distance and the amount of battery mass you're willing to transport. The GMC Sierra EV models with extended range offer a 390-mile driving capability according to EPA assessments, utilizing approximately 170 kWh, while the Max Range models, initially rated for 440 miles, are now projected by GM to reach up to 460 miles with roughly 205 kWh.

Chevrolet has just revealed that the 2025 Chevy Silverado RST will see an increase in its driving range, going from 440 miles to 460 miles. This improvement, according to Chevrolet, comes from enhancements made to the vehicle's motors, inverters, and aerodynamic design. Additionally, the Work-truck (WT) models of the 2025 Silverado EV are expected to achieve up to 492 miles on a single charge with the biggest available battery option.

The Sierra EV features two-layer battery systems, allowing for charging at 800 volts with a maximum of 350 kW, enabling it to regain approximately 100 miles of driving distance in roughly 10 minutes.

Upcoming 2024 Model of the GMC Sierra EV, Denali Edition

The upcoming 2024 Sierra EV Denali edition is on the market for $99,495, which covers the cost of the expanded battery option and a $1,995 fee for delivery. The following year, the 2025 model of the Sierra EV Denali, equipped with the Max Range battery, will see an increase in price by approximately $1,000, bringing the total to $100,495, with the delivery charge also rising to $2,095. However, opting for the lesser Extended Range battery brings the price down to $91,995.

The Sierra EV boasts a powerful output of 760 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque, regardless of the battery option chosen, thanks to dual motors and drive units positioned at the front and back. Additionally, its four-wheel steering system allows for a remarkable turning radius under 42.2 feet, which is notable given its lengthy 233.2-inch frame.

The storage area at the front of the vehicle, commonly referred to as a frunk but dubbed "eTrunk" by GMC, offers 11.0 cubic feet of space, making it a perfect spot for stowing items like a carry-on suitcase or a backpack.

Similar to its counterpart, the Silverado EV, the Sierra EV also features a highly adaptable midgate design. This allows the truck's bed to extend to accommodate objects as long as 11 feet, without sacrificing rear seating for passengers. It's essentially additional space to adjust according to your requirements, based on the task at hand.

An adjustable air suspension system enhances the smoothness of the ride and enables the truck's height to be adjusted up or down by approximately two inches.

The latest 2025 GMC Sierra EV model boosts its maximum towing capability by an additional 500 pounds compared to the previous year, now able to tow up to 10,500 pounds.

2024 model of the GMC Sierra EV, specifically the Denali Edition

GMC has announced the anticipated arrival of the Elevation and AT4 versions of the Sierra EV, slated for release in the early months of 2025. Drawing parallels to the gas-powered Sierra could suggest that the Elevation variant will feature enhanced black-trim detailing and improved suspension and towing capabilities, alongside added comfort features. The AT4 is expected to boast an off-road optimized suspension and protective skid plates. However, specific information regarding these models will be disclosed closer to their launch date. The introduction of these new trims is likely to result in a reduction in prices across the Sierra EV range.
