2025 Audi Q6 E-Tron Review: The Luxury EV That’s Redefining Quick Charging and Spaciousness
Analysis: Audi's 2025 Q6 E-Tron outpaces competitors
Audi's introduction of the 2025 Q6 E-Tron series is addressing a persistent issue that has troubled the latest wave of German luxury electric SUVs.
Sport Utility Vehicles have become the preferred mode of transportation for modern families. Moreover, high-end manufacturers often highlight that in today's world, time is considered the ultimate luxury.
Why do high-end electric SUVs seem to steal your time, forcing you to linger longer at the far edges of large shopping center car parks to power up for your next journey on the road—meanwhile, drivers of more common Teslas, Hyundais, and Kias are arriving and departing with ease?
The high-end German automotive industry seems to be catching on and addressing the issue with their upcoming electric vehicles. Currently, besides Porsche, Audi stands alone in offering a spacious, yet not overly large, two-row luxury car that can charge in approximately 20 minutes.
During an initial test drive of the 2025 Audi Q6 last week, I found that I didn't need to stop to recharge, highlighting the model's superior ability to conserve battery life compared to the Q4 E-Tron and Q8 E-Tron models.
Upcoming 2025 Audi Q6 E-Tron Model
The range of the Audi Q6 E-Tron series generally exceeds 300 miles, with the rear-wheel-drive version reaching up to 321 miles, the E-Tron quattro with all-wheel drive hitting 307 miles, and the SQ6 E-Tron quattro variant covering 275 miles.
After embarking on a journey that spanned 83 miles in the Q6 E-Tron quattro and 102 miles in the SQ6, which involved navigating through the twisty roads of Sonoma and brief periods on the US-101, we recorded an average energy consumption of 3.0 miles per kilowatt-hour. This is particularly impressive given that our focus was on assessing the car's performance in terms of ride quality, handling, and overall driving experience, without prioritizing energy-saving techniques. It's worth mentioning that the Q6 E-Tron showed an efficiency of 2.9 mi/kwh, while the SQ6 achieved 3.1 mi/kwh. These figures could be slightly influenced by increased traffic encountered later in the day.
Audi claims the Q6 E-Tron outperforms the Q8 E-Tron by 33% and is 30% more energy-efficient. This leap is primarily due to the adoption of an 800-volt system for the battery and powertrain, a strategy influenced by the Porsche Taycan and the Audi E-Tron GT cousins. This enhancement not only betters efficiency and driving range but also significantly improves charging times.
Upcoming 2025 model of the Audi Q6, which
The Audi Q6 E-Tron comfortably positions itself as a mid-range option within Audi's selection, particularly in the North American market. It's notably longer than the Q4 E-Tron by eight inches, yet remains a foot shorter than the Audi Q8 E-Tron. Despite this, its interior space feels almost on par with the larger Q8 E-Tron. The Q6 E-Tron's total length stretches to 187.8 inches with a wheelbase of 113.7 inches, which is just slightly larger than the Q5 gasoline SUV by 3.5 and 2.7 inches respectively. This doesn't significantly affect the height and width, yet the Q6 gives off the impression of being a larger vehicle.
The superior packaging features of the Q6 stem from its foundational architecture. It serves as the debut model for the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), a specialized electric vehicle architecture that intentionally excludes space for a combustion engine and strives for smaller, lighter components with robust performance. The PPE, first employed in the Porsche Macan Electric, is expected to be adopted by the forthcoming Q6 Sportback and the A6 sedan series, slated for release the following year.

The design of the packaging has its drawbacks. One noticeable issue is the rear door openings, which are somewhat undersized. This results in a bit of a squeeze for taller individuals to enter, or a more cramped area when placing children inside. However, even with my 6-foot-6 stature, I found adequate room to comfortably seat myself in the rear.
The vehicle's floor is positioned low due to intelligent design decisions regarding the placement of the battery pack. Additionally, it features a front trunk (frunk) with a 2.3 cubic foot capacity, which is ample space for a sizable daypack, a piece of carry-on luggage, or to keep your portable charging cable. In the rear, there's a cargo area that offers 30.2 cubic feet of space when the back seats are upright, or an expanded 60.2 cubic feet when the seats are folded down—this is notably larger than the 25.9 and 54.1 cubic feet available in the Q5.
The upcoming 2025 model of the Audi Q6, which
Under the hood of the Q6 E-Tron, a relatively small battery pack has been utilized. It boasts a maximum capacity of 100 kwh, with 94.4 kwh of that being accessible for use. The design includes 12 separate modules, each housing 15 prismatic cells, culminating in a sum of 180 cells. This is a simpler setup compared to the Q8 E-Tron, which contains 36 modules and a whopping 432 cells. A key advantage of the Q6 E-Tron's battery configuration is the ease with which individual modules can be swapped out if needed.
Every model is equipped with a permanent-magnet motor powering the rear wheels, while the all-wheel drive quattro models are outfitted with an induction motor for the front wheels. This design enables the front motor to disengage during cruising and gentle coasting, eliminating drag. Additionally, the use of silicon carbide in the power electronics contributes to both weight reduction and energy conservation.
Audi is incorporating electric vehicle batteries with identical capacities but differing cell compositions, sourced from two international providers – Samsung SDI and CATL. They utilize two types of cells: lithium nickel cobalt aluminum oxide (NCA) and nickel manganese cobalt (NMC), which possess minor distinctions that allow them to reach an 80% charge in either 22 or 21 minutes, respectively. The quattro and SQ6 models are equipped with the NMC cells, which are slightly more resistant to heat, beneficial during high-performance use.

The Q6 E-Tron's charging and energy recuperation system
For the respective battery configurations, the Q6 E-Tron can reach peak charging rates of 260 and 270 kilowatts using the prevalent 350-kilowatt CCS DC fast-charging stations in the States. Audi is also preparing an adapter for Tesla NACS outlets within the coming year. When connected to DC fast-charging systems that don't support up to 800 volts—similar to many of the existing Tesla Superchargers—Audi has enabled a peak charge of roughly 135 kilowatts by operating the battery as twin 400-volt units. This allows for a fast charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 35 minutes. Audi has integrated a predictive thermal management system and a custom battery management controller for better and faster charging experiences. Additionally, a manual pre-warming feature is in the works for the U.S. market, which will help with charging at stations that aren't yet integrated into its navigation system.
When it comes to charging at home, the vehicle comes equipped with a 9.6-kw internal charger that gives you the convenience of plugging in from either side of the car (although the driver's side only supports DC charging). If you have a home charging unit of the same power capacity and it's connected to a 50-amp electrical circuit, you can expect to fully charge the battery in 10 hours or less.
The Q6 E-Tron efficiently recharges its battery every time the vehicle decelerates or comes to a halt, utilizing a unique regenerative braking system unlike many other electric vehicles. In its standard mode, the Q6 series prefers to coast whenever the driver eases off the gas pedal, with alternative modes available for selection with every ignition cycle. Audi has enhanced the brake regeneration capacity, now peaking at 0.30 g, which is significant enough that for many stops, the brake pads only engage during the final moments.

When you switch to 'D', the car automatically enters a mode where it slows down on its own, but it's not very transparent how it works. The system uses information from the front camera, like how far away the car in front is, and also considers traffic and map information to figure out how to handle upcoming bends in the road. However, it can be surprising how much the car slows down when you take your foot off the gas pedal, and this isn't shown on the dashboard. For example, when you're trying to coast through a traffic circle, the car might suddenly start to slow down more than you'd expect.
You do have options available, which is the recommended route to take. Utilizing the paddles on the steering wheel while in 'D' mode allows you to toggle between levels 0, 1, and 2. These levels offer varying degrees of deceleration, from a neutral coasting experience, to a mild deceleration similar to a standard gasoline vehicle in 'D' mode, and up to a more noticeable deceleration akin to shifting down a gear. However, by choosing 'B' on the unconventional gear selector—an aspect of the car I'm not fond of—you can access an entirely different set of dynamics, experiencing a significant increase in regenerative braking, up to 0.25 g, when you take your foot off the throttle.

Cost and Worth of the Audi Q6 E-Tron
Our experience was primarily with the 2025 Audi Q6 E-Tron quattro, which has an initial price tag of $67,095, inclusive of the $1,295 delivery charge. It was equipped with additional features including the Prestige package for $6,800, a Warm Weather package priced at $1,300 (offering leather seating, ventilated front seats, and a high-end Bang & Olufsen sound system), and a set of 20-inch wheels for an extra $1,000. This brought the final price of the model we reviewed to $76,195.
Positioned at the center of the series, the quattro boasts a launch mode horsepower of 356 and achieves a sprint to 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds. Models of the Q6 E-Tron with rear-wheel drive deliver 322 horsepower and reach 60 mph in 6.3 seconds. Meanwhile, the SQ6 E-Tron ramps up the performance with 509 horsepower, allowing it to accelerate from a standstill to 60 mph in a swift 4.1 seconds.
The Prestige bundle, which wasn't part of my Q6 E-Tron trial, includes two elements that could potentially alter the vehicle's essential character: a flexible air suspension system, and noise-canceling front glass.
Addressing both aspects, the Q6 E-Tron doesn't exude the vibe of a high-performance car, and there's a noticeable level of instability affecting its composure on twisty roads. It's not a car that beckons for challenging drives. Even with all the efforts to reduce weight in its drive system, the vehicle still tips the scales at close to 5,300 pounds. However, the inclusion of air suspension and firm damping assists in stabilizing large movements when speeding up or coming to a stop, lending the car a sense of assurance.
Upcoming Audi Q6 E-Tron Set for 2025
However, in a related review for Motor Authority regarding the 2025 Audi SQ6, I point out that the combination of technical adjustments and physical component variations results in a car that offers a distinctly more enjoyable driving experience, despite being only slightly pricier and less fuel-efficient.
The Prestige models of the Q6 E-Tron come equipped with soundproofing front glass. However, the interior of the Q6 E-Tron is already exceptionally silent, to the point where we wondered about the necessity of Audi's three artificial engine sound settings, especially since none offer a completely silent option.
The Q6 E-Tron series introduces a brand-new user interface
Included in the luxurious Prestige bundle is an eye-catching custom OLED lighting on the outside, along with a significant technological addition for the front-seat companion—a 10.9-inch screen equipped with a privacy filter, allowing the passenger to watch, interact, or control the music.
Upcoming 2025 Audi Q6 Electric Model
The company has introduced a new user interface, termed the Audi Digital Stage, featuring a sweeping design that combines a customizable 11.9-inch cockpit display with a 14.5-inch OLED touchscreen. Additionally, there's an augmented reality heads-up display that offers a wealth of information to the driver; however, we chose to switch it off and instead enjoyed the subtle directional lighting integrated into the dashboard. The redesign has moved nearly all of the climate control functions to the touchscreen. After spending a day behind the wheel, I found the system fairly straightforward to use, with a simple menu of icons on the left side for quick access to functions such as audio, navigation, and phone connectivity.
Audi has introduced a new digital assistant equipped with AI technology capable of executing certain functions, such as reducing the intensity of the notably powerful seat heaters, without any hitches—and it seems it doesn't require an internet connection for all its operations.
The Q8 E-Tron, along with its earlier version, the E-Tron SUV, was a pioneer among electric SUVs, hitting the market a whole year before Tesla's Model Y. However, with the introduction of the Q6 E-Tron and its foundational PPE architecture, the brand has demonstrated significant advancements across the board. If you've been waiting for luxury electric vehicles with enhanced driving dynamics, extended range, and quicker charging capabilities, your wait is over.

Electric Vehicles Shine in Latest IIHS Safety Awards, But Cadillac Lyriq Fails to Make the Cut
The latest batch of IIHS safety evaluations granted the Top Safety Pick+ accolade to additional electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. However, during this last assessment session of the year, the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq did not achieve this prestigious safety recognition.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has raised the bar for its highest accolades, the Top Safety Pick+ and the secondary Top Safety Pick distinctions. Despite these stricter standards, in September's initial set of recognitions, eight electric vehicles clinched the prestigious Top Safety Pick+ honor, while an additional nine earned the Top Safety Pick title.
2024 Model of the Ford Mustang Mach-E Designed for Rally
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) declared on Tuesday that following a supplementary series of evaluations, which included the revised moderate front-overlap crash test for models previously untested or modified for improved outcomes, both the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E and the 2025 Rivian R1S have now earned the distinction of Top Safety Pick+ awardees.
The 2025 Mazda CX-70 and both the 2024 and 2025 editions of the Volvo XC90, which are plug-in hybrids, have recently been awarded the Top Safety Pick+ honor. However, there were no additional electric vehicles or plug-in hybrids that made it to the Top Safety Pick list in this latest update.
Vehicles must achieve the top "Good" score in both the small front-overlap and the revised side-impact crash evaluations, as well as an "Acceptable" or "Good" score in the tests for avoiding crashes with pedestrians, to be considered for either honor. Additionally, they must have headlights that earn these ratings for every model variant. This particular criterion caused the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq to miss the mark, as it was given a "Poor" rating for its headlights.
The 2025 model of the Rivian R
Launching with the 2023 lineup, the Lyriq will undergo subtle updates for 2025, which also include a reduction in price. These alterations, however, are not expected to affect its headlight evaluations. Nonetheless, it's not uncommon for car manufacturers to collaborate with the IIHS to rectify problems identified during their assessments, suggesting that Cadillac might implement improvements that could emerge progressively throughout the model year.
To secure the elite Top Safety Pick+ accolade, vehicles must achieve at least a "Good" or "Acceptable" grade in the revised moderate front-overlap evaluation. This enhanced assessment introduces an additional test dummy in the rear seat, directly behind the driver, to scrutinize the safety of backseat passengers more thoroughly. Meanwhile, a "Good" performance in the initial format of this test qualifies a vehicle for the less prestigious Top Safety Pick honor.

Porsche Macan Electric: A Bold Leap Forward as Green Car Reports’ Best Car to Buy 2025 Finalist
The Electric Porsche Macan: A Contender for Green Car Reports' Top Car Purchase of 2025
Loaded with cutting-edge tech and engineering breakthroughs, the Electric Porsche Macan is set to revolutionize the core of the high-end auto market, not merely its edges. It's this potential that has secured its spot as a finalist for Green Car Reports' Best Car To Buy in the year 2025.
While many companies have been inconsistent in their transition to electric vehicles, Porsche has remained steadfast in their strategy to transform most of their models to EVs. The decision to revamp their best-selling Macan as an all-electric vehicle has been a particularly daring step.
Porsche initiated a concentrated effort towards electric vehicle development nearly a decade ago with the Mission E prototype. This endeavor led to the creation of the Porsche Taycan, an all-electric car positioned in the market alongside the 911 and Panamera models. Launched in the 2020 model year, the Taycan was a contender for our Best Car To Buy award in 2020.
The Volkswagen Group has introduced a platform for personal protective equipment, which was created collaboratively by Porsche
Over the last twelve months, the 2025 Porsche Taycan has undergone numerous enhancements aimed at increasing its efficiency, enhancing its capabilities, and fulfilling its purpose. However, the Macan Electric's introduction of the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) puts the advancements of the Taycan into context. The PPE architecture enables more straightforward scaling and streamlines the process for greater mass production. This demonstrates that the electric variant not only embodies the benefits of clean energy but also offers improved space efficiency, comfort, and luxury.
The Macan, along with its PPE-based siblings such as the Audi Q6 E-Tron, advances motor technology while maintaining the Taycan's high-performance 800-volt system for battery and propulsion. This new iteration is equipped with a 100-kWh battery pack that simplifies the design by using fewer prismatic cells and enhances thermal management. This allows for impressive fast-charging capabilities, reaching 10-80% in as short as 21 minutes. The Macan boasts an impressive EPA range of up to 315 miles, with the top-tier Macan Turbo model achieving 288 miles, minimizing the amount of time drivers need to spend recharging during long journeys.

Upcoming 2024 Electric Porsche Macan
2024 Electric Version of Porsche Macan
Up until now, Germany's high-end automotive sector hasn't capitalized on the swifter 800-volt charging technology. However, this is set to change with the introduction of the Macan and PPE, which will pave the way for the 2025 Audi Q6 E-Tron and SQ6 E-Tron, both debuting shortly. Additionally, this advancement will extend to the Audi A6 E-Tron hatchback and other models slated for release next year.
Our review team thoroughly tested the Macan Electric's heat management and performance capabilities at the Best Car To Buy trials held at the Atlanta Motorsports Park in Georgia. Even with a hefty weight close to 5,400 pounds, the SUV's battery, brakes, and motors maintained their cool without any signs of overheating. However, the high-performance Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires showed significant wear after the tests.
2024 Electric Version of Porsche Macan
The electric variant of the Porsche Macan comes in several horsepower options: the standard 335-hp model, the 402-hp Macan 4, the more powerful 509-hp Macan 4S, and the top-tier 630-hp Macan Turbo, which can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.1 seconds. This vehicle is equipped with an air suspension system and adaptive dampers, enabling the adjustment of its ground clearance according to the selected driving mode. The Macan Electric's build is based on the PPE platform, which incorporates an innovative front suspension layout and a steering mechanism that is directly connected to the frame, enhancing steering responsiveness. Whether navigating city streets or racing on a circuit, the Macan's ability to steer the rear wheels is a game-changer, offering improved agility around sharp bends and increased steadiness during fast driving.
Setting aside the enjoyable experience on the track, the Macan Electric and its underlying architecture are set to demonstrate that electric vehicles can be designed without sacrifices, potentially expanding their appeal to a wider audience.
The task isn't fully accomplished at this point, however, we are embarking on a much larger endeavor.

2025 Audi Q6 E-Tron Review: A Luxurious Leap in EV Efficiency and Charging Speed
Evaluation: Audi's 2025 Q6 E-Tron takes the lead
Audi is addressing a persistent issue that has been a thorn in the side for all German luxury brands' electric SUV offerings in recent years with its 2025 Q6 E-Tron series.
Modern families predominantly prefer sport utility vehicles (SUVs) as their go-to cars. Moreover, high-end manufacturers often emphasize that in today's world, time has become the ultimate luxury.
Why do high-end electric SUVs often steal away precious minutes, forcing you to linger longer at the far edges of sprawling shopping center car parks to power up for your next road segment—meanwhile, drivers of mainstream Teslas, Hyundais, and Kias are arriving and departing with ease?
Germany's high-end automotive sector seems to be catching on and addressing this issue with their upcoming electric vehicles. Excluding Porsche, Audi is currently the only brand offering a spacious yet moderately sized luxury two-row car that can charge in approximately 20 minutes.
During my initial test drive of the 2025 Audi Q6 last week, I found that the battery life was so efficient that I didn't need to stop for a charge on a short journey. This highlights how this latest model surpasses its predecessors, the Q4 E-Tron and Q8 E-Tron, in terms of reducing the need for frequent charging stops.
Upcoming 2025 Audi Q6 Electric Model
The range of the Audi Q6 E-Tron series generally exceeds 300 miles. Specifically, the rear-wheel-drive Q6 E-Tron can travel up to 321 miles, the dual-motor all-wheel-drive E-Tron quattro can cover 307 miles, and the SQ6 E-Tron quattro can reach up to 275 miles.
During our journey spanning 83 miles in the Q6 E-Tron quattro and 102 miles in the SQ6, which included navigating tight curves on the Sonoma back roads and brief periods on US-101, we achieved an impressive average of 3.0 miles per kilowatt-hour. This is particularly noteworthy as our focus was on evaluating the vehicle's performance, ride quality, and dynamics, rather than prioritizing energy-efficient driving. It's worth mentioning that the Q6 E-Tron recorded 2.9 mi/kWh and the SQ6 hit 3.1 mi/kWh, variations that could likely be attributed to increased traffic later in the day.
Audi claims the Q6 E-Tron outperforms the Q8 E-Tron by 33% and uses 30% less energy. The key to enhanced efficiency and extended range lies in upgrading to an 800-volt battery and drive system, taking cues from the Porsche Taycan and the Audi E-Tron GT. This advancement significantly enhances the charging process.
Upcoming 2025 Audi Q6 Electric Model
The Audi Q6 E-Tron strikes a balance in luxury
Positioned perfectly within Audi's range, particularly for the North American market, the Q6 E-Tron finds its niche. It's notably eight inches longer than the Q4 E-Tron and a whole foot shorter than the Audi Q8 E-Tron. Despite this, its interior feels almost as spacious as the larger Q8. Measuring at 187.8 inches in length and with a wheelbase of 113.7 inches, it surpasses the Q5 gasoline SUV by 3.5 and 2.7 inches respectively, with a slight increase in height and width. This makes the Q6 appear substantially more substantial in size.
The Q6's superior packaging features are a result of its underlying structure. It debuts the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), a specialized electric vehicle architecture that eliminates the need for internal combustion engine room, focuses on shrinking the size and weight of parts, and prioritizes high performance. The PPE, which the Porsche Macan Electric also uses, is expected to be adopted by the upcoming Q6 Sportback and the A6 sedan series, scheduled for release the following year.

The design of the packaging has its shortcomings. A noticeable issue is the rear door openings being slightly undersized. This results in a bit of a squeeze for taller individuals getting inside or a cramped area when bending over to help small children in. However, there was ample room for someone of my 6-foot-6 stature to comfortably sit behind a seat adjusted to my own driving position.
The ground clearance is minimal, indicative of intelligent design decisions regarding the battery placement, and it boasts a front trunk with a 2.3 cubic foot capacity, which is sufficient for a sizeable daypack or a carry-on bag, or even for keeping your portable charging cable concealed. The rear offers 30.2 cubic feet of storage space when the back seats are upright, which expands to 60.2 cubic feet when the seats are folded down—a notably larger space compared to the Q5's 25.9 and 54.1 cubic feet.

Under the hood of the Q6 E-Tron: The vehicle features a relatively small battery pack, boasting a maximum of 100 kWh gross capacity, with 94.4 kWh of that being accessible for use. The design comprises 12 units, each containing 15 prismatic cells, summing up to 180 cells in total. This is a simpler structure compared to the Q8 E-Tron's 36 units and 432 cells. Moreover, the updated battery design enables the straightforward substitution of single modules.
Every model features a permanent-magnet motor powering the rear wheels, while the all-wheel drive variants are equipped with an induction motor for the front wheels. This design enables the car to disengage the front motor to eliminate drag during cruising and gentle coasting. Additionally, weight reduction and the use of silicon carbide in the power electronics contribute to further energy conservation.
Despite identical battery sizes, Audi employs distinct electric vehicle battery cell types sourced from two major international manufacturers—Samsung SDI and CATL. The cells, which are made of lithium nickel cobalt aluminum oxide (NCA) and nickel manganese cobalt (NMC), have minor differences that enhance charging efficiency, allowing them to reach 80% charge in either 22 or 21 minutes, respectively. The quattro and SQ6 models are equipped with the NMC cells, which offer a marginally improved heat resistance during high-performance use.

The Q6 E-Tron is capable of rapid charging, with its batteries accepting up to 260 kw and 270 kw. In the United States, these vehicles can utilize the widespread 350-kw CCS DC fast-charging stations. Additionally, an adaptor compatible with Tesla's NACS connectors is expected to be released within a year. The E-Tron can also charge at 135 kw on DC fast-charging systems that operate below 800 volts, like many of Tesla's Superchargers, by effectively splitting its battery into two 400-volt sections. This allows a charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 35 minutes. Audi has developed a new thermal management system and battery controller for optimal charging efficiency. The company is also looking to introduce a manual preconditioning option in the United States, which will help in situations where charging stations are not yet integrated into the route planning system.
When it comes to charging at home, the integrated 9.6-kw charger provides access to charging outlets on both sides of the car (although only DC charging is available on the driver's side). If you use a home charging cable with that capacity and connect it to a 50-amp electrical circuit, you can expect the car to be fully charged in 10 hours or less.
The Q6 E-Tron is designed to efficiently recharge its battery pack during deceleration and braking, but it adopts a unique method compared to other electric vehicles. By default, the Q6 series is set to coast smoothly when the driver eases off the gas pedal, with the option to change this preference with every ignition cycle. Audi has enhanced the brake regeneration system, which is engaged by pressing the brake pedal, to a maximum deceleration of 0.30 g. This advanced system means that for many stops, the friction brake pads are only needed in the final moments.

When you switch to 'D', the car automatically enters a mode that slows it down without much transparency. This mode uses information from the front camera, such as how far away the car in front is, along with traffic and map information, to judge the bends in the road ahead. However, the amount of energy recovery you get as you ease off the gas pedal can be erratic and is not displayed on the dashboard. For example, trying to coast through a traffic circle can lead to a surprising increase in this regenerative braking.
You do have options available, which is definitely the right approach. Using the paddle shifters on the steering wheel, you can switch between modes 0, 1, and 2 while in 'D'. These range from having no resistance when coasting, to a mild deceleration similar to a traditional gasoline car in drive mode, to a more noticeable slowdown akin to shifting down a gear. If you switch to 'B' using the rather unconventional gear selector—which I personally find bothersome about this car—you'll experience a totally different characteristic. In this mode, lifting your foot off the gas pedal will give you a strong deceleration force of 0.25 g due to the regenerative braking system.

Cost and Worth of the 2025 Audi Q6 E-Tron
Our experience was primarily with the 2025 Audi Q6 E-Tron quattro, which has a base price of $67,095, inclusive of the $1,295 delivery charge. The vehicle also featured additional packages including the Prestige package for $6,800, the Warm Weather package costing $1,300 (which includes leather seats, air-conditioned front seats, and a Bang & Olufsen sound system), and the 20-inch wheel package for an extra $1,000. This resulted in a total tested price of $76,195.
Positioned at the center of the range, the quattro variant delivers a launch mode power of 356 horsepower and achieves a 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of 4.9 seconds. The rear-wheel-drive versions of the Q6 E-Tron produce 322 horsepower and reach 60 mph in 6.3 seconds. The SQ6 E-Tron models enhance the performance to 509 horsepower, allowing for a swift 0 to 60 mph sprint in just 4.1 seconds.
I didn't get a chance to try out a Q6 E-Tron that didn't include the Prestige package, which introduces a couple of elements that could potentially alter the basic sensation of the car: a flexible air suspension system, and soundproofing glass at the front.
Regarding the mentioned aspects: The driving sensation in the Q6 E-Tron doesn't match that of a sports car, with a noticeable degree of instability impacting its composure on winding routes. It's not a car that's at home on challenging stretches of road. Even with the weight reduction strategies applied to its driving system, the vehicle tips the scales at almost 5,300 pounds. However, the air suspension and tight damping contribute to a smoother control of larger movements when speeding up or halting abruptly, which does instill a sense of assurance in its general handling.
Upcoming 2025 Audi Q6 Electric Model
In an accompanying critique for Motor Authority, I mention that the 2025 Audi SQ6, although slightly pricier and not as fuel-efficient, offers a distinctively more enjoyable driving experience due to a combination of tuning and equipment modifications.
The Prestige models of the Q6 E-Tron come equipped with sound-dampening front glass. However, it's difficult to determine the extent of noise reduction it provides because the interior of the Q6 E-Tron is already exceptionally silent. This quietness led us to wonder about the necessity of Audi's three artificial engine sound options, especially since none of them can be fully turned off.
The Q6 E-Tron series introduces a completely redesigned interface. Additionally, the Prestige bundle offers eye-catching customizable OLED lights on the outside, and a significant tech feature positioned at the passenger's side—a 10.9-inch screen equipped with a privacy screen that enables the passenger to watch, interact, or control the music.
Upcoming Audi Q6 Electric Model
The brand has introduced a new interface, termed the Audi Digital Stage, which features an 11.9-inch customizable cockpit display paired with a 14.5-inch OLED touchscreen, all set within a sleek, curved panoramic layout. Additionally, there's an augmented reality display projected on the windshield, which provides an abundance of information to the driver (although it can be switched off if preferred, with the dashboard's directional lighting still being a highlight). The interface has been designed to incorporate all climate controls into the touchscreen, and after spending a day driving, I found the system relatively user-friendly. The left side of the screen hosts a simple menu of icons for quick access to functions such as audio, navigation, and phone connectivity.
Audi has introduced a smart digital helper that uses artificial intelligence. It's capable of executing certain functions, such as reducing the intensity of the powerful seat warmers, without any hitches. Moreover, it seems that it doesn't require an internet connection for all of its operations.
The Q8 E-Tron, alongside the earlier E-Tron SUV, spearheaded the electric SUV market, debuting a year prior to Tesla's Model Y. However, with the arrival of the Q6 E-Tron and its advanced PPE chassis, it's evident that the company has made substantial advancements across the board. If you've been waiting for luxury electric vehicles that offer a superior drive, extended battery life, and quicker charging times, your wait is over.

Supreme Court Upholds California’s EV Mandate Amidst Political Clashes and Future Uncertainties
The U.S. Supreme Court has chosen not to consider an appeal against California's power to regulate vehicle emissions, effectively permitting the state to persist with its strategy to progressively eliminate the sale of new gasoline-powered vehicles for the present.
The Supreme Court refused to review the substance of objections raised by oil and gas firms against California's exemption under the Clean Air Act. This exemption permits California to impose tougher vehicle emission regulations. The Court limited its scrutiny to determining if these companies are eligible to pursue their legal claims.
This eliminates a possible danger to California's control over regulations, however, it's probable that similar challenges will arise. As the state gears up to prohibit sales of gas-powered vehicles that can't be plugged in by 2035, groups with conservative leanings are taking aim at its policies that favor electric vehicles.

The Project 2025 initiative by the Heritage Foundation, potentially guiding the new Trump Administration, doesn't demand a complete cancellation of the waiver. However, it does pursue a limitation where the waiver would only address pollution unique to the state. Moreover, it seeks to ensure that if other states follow California's environmental standards, they do so only for conventional pollutants, excluding greenhouse gas emissions.
This action would specifically target the electric vehicle aspect of California's emissions regulations, representing a more precise attack on electric vehicle guidelines compared to the broader efforts by the Trump Administration in 2019 to completely strip California of its emissions regulatory power. The initial move led to legal battles for various reasons, culminating in the reinstatement of California's authority over emissions by the Biden Administration.
A Nissan Leaf was plugged into an EVgo rapid charging station located in Baker, California.
On the previous occasion, a group of car manufacturers chose to align with California through individual agreements, reasoning that it aligned better with the worldwide context. BMW, Ford, Honda, Volkswagen, and Volvo appealed to a federal court to maintain California's power over emissions, whereas General Motors, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (currently known as Stellantis), and Toyota supported Trump.
The approach the second Trump Administration might take to undo Biden's policies on clean energy and electric vehicles is uncertain, but the outlook isn't promising. However, any move to target these policies could also be seen as an affront to states' rights, which are traditionally held in high regard by the Republican Party.

Skoda: A Preview of What's New for 2025
The market will see the introduction of Elroq, while the more sizable Enyaq gets an update…
Skoda is gearing up to launch a wave of electric SUVs. The year 2025 will spotlight the Elroq and Enyaq models. The Elroq has been unveiled already and its sales are set to kick off in the early part of the year. Additionally, we're anticipating an updated version of the Enyaq.
Upcoming Skoda Elroq Model
Anticipated 2025 Skoda Elroq Release
The Skoda Elroq is anticipated to be one of the most eagerly awaited electric SUVs on the market. This excitement isn't just confined to the Volkswagen Group's offerings, but extends to the entire C-Segment. Measuring in at 4.49 meters and starting at a price point of €33,900, the Elroq is set to hit dealership floors in the first quarter of 2025, boasting a range of features that are particularly appealing for its class.
The Skoda boasts one of the lowest drag coefficients in its class at 0.26, offering power ranging from 168 to 299 horsepower. It comes with battery options from 55 to 82 kWh, allowing for a driving range of up to 560 kilometers.
Updated Skoda Enyaq Model
Spotted: Camouflaged Prototype of the Refreshed Skoda Enyaq
The brand's largest electric SUV is set for a refresh in early 2025. The Enyaq, which has been available since 2020, will receive a moderate makeover. Spy shots also reveal that updates are not limited to the standard body style; the coupe version, which was introduced on January 31, 2022, is also due for an upgrade.
There are likely to be minimal changes to the propulsion systems, possibly a slight increase in charging speed and a small bump in battery size. However, Skoda will mainly focus on enhancing the design. The Enyaq is set to adopt the same "Modern Solid" aesthetic as the Elroq. Inside, the larger sibling will take cues from its smaller counterpart.
Interestingly, the launch and the commencement of orders are happening simultaneously. It has been noted on the manufacturer's website that the latest Enyaq model will be available for orders starting January 2025, although the prices have yet to be disclosed.

Von Pick-up zu Familien-SUV: Toyotas 10.000-Dollar-Hilux mutiert in Indonesien zum Siebensitzer
To enhance a more individualized experience
Toyota's $10,000 pickup truck transforms into a seven-seater SUV
It is constructed by a customizer and sold through Toyota dealers in Indonesia
A year ago, Toyota introduced the Hilux Champ – a compact, affordable, and flexible pickup designed for the Asian market. Depending on the country, it's referred to as Rangga or Tamaraw. Regardless of the name, it's always the same chassis with a cabin, ready to have various add-ons attached behind the front seats.
The unique aspect of the Hilux Champ is its affordable price tag; the standard model comes in at just over 12,000 Euros. It was inevitable that a version with additional seating would emerge, and that's what we see here. This slightly awkward-looking SUV, known as the Hilux Rangga in Indonesia, features two rows of seats behind the driver's cabin, accommodating a total of seven passengers.
The passenger carrier, which was unveiled at the start of the year at the Indonesia International Auto Show, is constructed by a company called New Armada. This firm has a substantial background in manufacturing buses, yet their latest modification entails more than just the installation of seats and carpets. They've engineered the rear section to replicate the boxy design of the cab's body lines. The roof even extends beyond the top, offering a seamless shape that doesn't appear to be an aftermarket addition.
Inside the vehicle, there's room for three passengers in the middle row and two in the back. There is no specific information available on the amount of space, however, it appears to be somewhat cramped for both the middle and rear rows of seats. This comes as no surprise given that the Hilux Rangga, which features a long wheelbase, measures just 4.88 meters in length. For context, this is roughly equivalent to the length of a Ford Maverick.
Compact SUV offerings from Toyota for the European market:
The compact SUV offers a choice between a petrol engine or a diesel engine, the latter being the more powerful option with 148 horsepower. It powers only the rear wheels, however, driving purists will be glad to know that a five-speed manual transmission is an option. Given its boxy shape and oddly small wheels, we're not expecting it to offer the most thrilling driving experience. That might lead some to opt for the six-speed automatic transmission instead.
The latest Armada model features an SUV conversion, however, Toyota plans to distribute the Hilux Rangga SUV through its dealership network in Indonesia, with sales commencing in 2025.

Kia Tasman: Vom digitalen Spott zur realen Begeisterung – Eine Studie enthüllt die Wandlung des Tasman in den Augen der Betrachter
For a more individualized experience
Kia's Tasman model receives positive feedback on its design
An internal survey has revealed that people prefer the Tasman's appearance in person over its press images. Following the release of the Tasman, Kia's head of Exterior Design mentioned that the vehicle might require some time to become endearing to people, noting its distinctiveness. John Buckingham stated that his team has designed something unique, emphasizing that it was intentionally crafted. Despite this, online comments haven't always been flattering.
The Korean brand has acknowledged that it initially encountered some "feedback" but it seems that perceptions are starting to shift. Kia Australia's marketing head, Dean Norbiato, noted that potential customers who experience the Tasman up close are revising their initial judgments about its design. "The more time they spend with the vehicle, the more their opinion evolves from their first impression at launch," he said. Internal research indicates that this new rival to the Ford Ranger is more appealing in person than in press images.
According to observations, there appears to be a distinct difference in perception between individuals who have viewed the vehicle in person versus those who have only seen a two-dimensional image of it.
The Tasman stands out from other trucks of its size due to its unique design. Its distinctive look is marked by headlights that are set widely apart and a protruding front end. Adjustments to the "eyebrow" fenders are already in the works. Kia has acknowledged the need to make a strong first impression to attract buyers who typically opt for models like the Ranger, Amarok, or Hilux. However, it seems unlikely that the Tasman will be available in Europe.
Regardless of its looks, whether unattractive, attractive, or somewhere in-between, the Tasman faces an uphill battle due to the fierce competition in a market controlled by well-established brands. This pick-up truck is up against the big players in its category and has to do so without the V6 engines that its rivals are equipped with. While the Ranger and the Hilux both have SUV counterparts, the Everest and the Fortuner, Kia will not have a comparable offering to these models.
Starting in 2025, the Tasman model will hit the market with single cabin, double cabin, and chassis cab options. There's an anticipated work-focused version featuring steel wheels, a snorkel, and a front protection bar. Both left-hand and right-hand drive versions will be available, along with 4×4 and 4×2 setups, manual and automatic transmissions, and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines have been engineered for this line.

Ford’s Diesel Dilemma: Massive Recall Amidst Emissions Scandal
To enhance a more individualized experience
Ford faces another setback with the recall of nearly 770,000 diesel vehicles.
Ford's current crisis deepens with unwelcome diesel issue.
The string of bad news doesn't seem to end for major German car manufacturers. Ford, having recently admitted to facing significant challenges due to the sales slump of their electric models, now has to endure a massive recall. It turns out that emissions issues with their diesel engines are necessitating an unexpected trip to the service center for almost 770,000 Ford vehicle owners. What a blow…
Ford has issued a global recall for 768,927 diesel vehicles due to potential issues with the emissions control system. In Germany, 164,168 units across various model lines including B-Max, C-Max, Eco Sport, Fiesta, Focus, Galaxy, Grand C-Max, Kuga, Mondeo, Ranger, S-Max, Tourneo Connect, Transit Connect, and Transit Courier manufactured between 2014 and 2020 are impacted.
The Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) informed the digital version of "Auto Motor und Sport" magazine that due to their design, Ford diesel models experience an increase in particulate matter in the exhaust as the vehicle ages.
In the repair shops, there is a recalibration of the diesel particulate filter regeneration taking place, along with inspections and replacements of the filters as necessary. The Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) is in the process of informing all vehicle owners impacted by this issue. The recall is registered with the KBA under the reference number 14555R, and the manufacturer has assigned the code 24E06 to the action. Ford has set up a dedicated customer service line at 0221 / 9999 2999 for those affected. An increase in particle emissions from Ford diesel models was detected in mid-2023 with the adoption of a more advanced testing method, resulting in a growing number of Ford models failing the emissions test.
A spokesperson for Ford stated that faulty diesel particulate filters would be replaced as necessary to guarantee the enduring effectiveness of the exhaust after-treatment system. Following an analysis of a diesel particulate filter, the ADAC speculated that the software coordination between active and passive filter regeneration was not ideal. Ford has now clarified that hairline cracks, which are not visible to the naked eye, are the reason for the failures in emission tests.
Increased Number of Recalls:
Ford has announced plans to reach out to all impacted vehicle owners by the end of 2024. The recall process will start with the Ford Kuga equipped with the 2.0 Eco-Blue diesel engine and will proceed in stages for different models. Notably, owners who have already paid to replace their particulate filters might be eligible for compensation, although the amount will vary on a case-by-case basis and Ford hasn't disclosed any specific figures. Additionally, Ford is offering an extended guarantee of ten years or 160,000 km for the replacement of faulty diesel particulate filters using original parts for all affected vehicles.

Lamborghini Recharges Electric Vehicle Timeline: Market Awaits 2029 Lanzador Launch
Lamborghini pushes back launch of inaugural electric vehicle to 2029, anticipating better market readiness, according to Reuters.
Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann expressed to Reuters and various news organizations on Monday, from the company's base in Sant'Agata Bolognese, Italy, that aiming for electric cars by 2029 is not a delayed target. He believes that the high-end car market segment won't be prepared for such a shift by 2025 or 2026.
Conceptual design of the Lamborghini Lanzador
Winkelmann mentioned that Lamborghini is anticipating further guidance on regulations in Europe. He noted that in 2026, the European Union is set to reassess its strategy to cease selling new vehicles powered by internal combustion engines by 2035, a move that Winkelmann thinks might provide Lamborghini with an exemption from having to fully transition to electric vehicles.
"The Lamborghini CEO mentioned that the conversation about synthetic fuels presents a chance for the types of vehicles they produce."
In 2023, Lamborghini announced that its initial electric vehicle will feature a 2+2 grand tourer design, aiming for a 300-mile driving range and a spacious back seat. Following this announcement, Lamborghini introduced the Lanzador concept as a sneak peek of the model, with plans to release it by 2028.

Lamborghini insists that its iconic supercars will be among the final models to adopt electric technology. The company intends to continue using plug-in hybrid systems for these vehicles at present, leaving fully electric engines for different types of cars. This perspective is echoed by competing brand McLaren. The CEO of the UK-based car manufacturer predicted in 2023 that a fully electric supercar wouldn't be feasible before 2030.
In the meantime, Ferrari, a long-standing competitor of Lamborghini, is progressing with its strategy to unveil a half-million-dollar electric vehicle. Anticipated to be introduced in 2025, this electric model from Ferrari will be manufactured at a newly constructed facility located just above their current premises in Maranello, Italy.

Ford and SK On Secure Record $9.63 Billion Government Loan to Energize US Battery Plant Production
The government has approved a loan of $9.63 billion for the collaborative battery production endeavor between Ford and SK On, BlueOval SK, as per a Reuters article from Monday.
The updated loan sum surpasses the initial figure of $9.2 billion, as disclosed in June by The New York Times.
The Energy Department's loan, which is the biggest issued under President Biden's tenure for electric vehicle production, aims to fund the building of battery facilities in both Kentucky and Tennessee.
Ford declared in 2021 that it is inaugurating two massive production facilities, attributing the move to an unprecedented investment of $11.4 billion and the anticipated generation of close to 11,000 fresh employment opportunities. The car manufacturer, in partnership with SK On, stated that their collaborative enterprise, BlueOval SK, aims to achieve an annual battery cell output of 60 gigawatt-hours by mid-decade.

Ford's blueprint encompasses the establishment of Blue Oval City located in the western region of Tennessee, along with BlueOval SK Battery Park which will house a pair of battery manufacturing facilities within the same vicinity in the heart of Kentucky. In 2021, Ford announced intentions to construct these two facilities, targeting a functional status for both by the year 2025.
The expansive Blue Oval City complex is home to a trio of facilities: a battery factory, a hub for component providers, and a manufacturing site for assembling electric pickup trucks, such as the upcoming version of the F-150 Lightning. Meanwhile, SK On is actively producing battery cells for the existing model of the Lightning in Georgia.
The BlueOval SK Battery Park, located in the heart of Kentucky, will feature a duo of manufacturing facilities dedicated to creating battery cells specifically for upcoming electric vehicles from Ford and Lincoln.

Besides the BlueOval SK facilities, Ford proclaimed in February a partnership with CATL to establish a $3.5 billion battery manufacturing site in Marshall, Michigan. The company is also persistently producing the Mustang Mach-E in Mexico, utilizing LG batteries obtained from a Polish plant.
The Department of Energy has issued its biggest loan to date through a rejuvenated initiative that previously backed companies like Tesla, Nissan, and Ford during Obama's tenure, but was overlooked during Trump's presidency. With President Biden at the helm, the department has allocated a $2 billion loan to Redwood Materials, a battery recycling firm founded by former Tesla executive JB Straubel, and a $2.5 billion loan to Ultium Cells LLC, a collaborative battery project between General Motors and LG.
Update – This report has been revised to include the updated loan figure as of December.

End of an Era: Audi to Cease Q8 E-Tron Production in February Amidst Shift to New EV Platforms
Production of the Audi Q8 E-Tron to conclude in February
In the second month of the coming year, Audi is set to cease the production of the Q8 E-Tron, marking the conclusion of the electric SUV's journey which, under the initial E-Tron model, signaled the commencement of Audi's venture into electric vehicles.
According to initial coverage from Reuters, Audi's Brussels facility responsible for manufacturing the Q8 E-Tron is scheduled to cease operations by February 28. Efforts to sell the plant in Belgium have been unsuccessful, with Audi indicating to Reuters since November that no purchasers had come forward. Additionally, Automotive News had suggested in July that the future of the Q8 E-Tron could be in jeopardy.
Upcoming 2025 Audi Q8 Electric Model
It has been confirmed that the Q8 E-Tron's production is coming to an end and won't be transferred to a different factory. Audi has released the prices for its 2025 models, but according to a representative speaking to Green Car Reports, only the 2024 versions are present in Audi's stock in the United States. Whether the 2025 models will be accessible in the U.S. is contingent upon the allocation of any leftover production.
Audi intended to make minor updates to the features offered in 2025, along with a slight increase in the starting price by $600, setting it at $76,095, which encompasses a $1,295 charge for delivery.
2025 Model of the Audi Q8 E-Tron
The Q8 E-Tron, which debuted as part of the 2024 lineup, represents a significant refresh of Audi's inaugural mass-market electric vehicle, the E-Tron. It retains the positive features of its predecessor, such as the commendable safety scores, while offering enhanced driving dynamics and extended battery life. In its most aerodynamic Sportback variant, equipped with the Ultra Package that prioritizes efficiency, it boasted an EPA range of up to 300 miles. However, this package was slated for discontinuation in 2025, which would reduce the range to 272 miles.
The Q8 E-Tron, despite being built on the same MLB platform used for combustion engine vehicles, is part of Audi's growing collection of unique EV-specific platforms. The more affordable Q4 E-Tron is constructed on the MEB platform, which it shares with Volkswagen's electric vehicles such as the ID.4. The E-Tron GT utilizes the J1 platform, which is also the foundation for the Porsche Taycan. Upcoming models, the Q6 E-Tron and the A6 E-Tron, will be based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), a platform they will share with the electric version of the Porsche Macan. It is anticipated that PPE will form the cornerstone for future Audi electric vehicles, potentially including any successor to the Q8 E-Tron.
