The Foreign Secretary has stated that the UK and its partners will not be intimidated by "Putin's blatant posturing," amidst calls for the Prime Minister to permit Ukraine to launch British long-range missiles into Russia.
David Lammy expressed to Trevor Phillips on Sky News' Sunday Morning that the Russian president's warnings of deploying nuclear weapons in response to the West providing additional arms to Kyiv are "completely unacceptable."
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is urging the government to authorize the use of Storm Shadow long-range missiles against Russia, but no agreement was reached after discussions between Sir Keir Starmer and US President Joe Biden in Washington this week.

Two American sources involved in the talks indicated that they think Sir Keir is looking for the U.S. go-ahead, required because some parts of the Storm Shadow are manufactured in the U.S., though a decision has yet to be reached.
Mr. Lammy stated that he was unable to comment on the specifics of the decision-making process, but he mentioned, "There's a discussion regarding additional missiles."

He stated, "Putin frequently issues threats of nuclear weapon use every few months, which is completely unacceptable."

He also noted that Sir Keir has committed £3 billion in aid to Ukraine and supplied additional missiles upon request, and will maintain his support for Ukraine.
Mr. Lammy mentioned that the topic of long-range missiles is set to be revisited during the next week's UN General Assembly.
Shadow Home Secretary James Cleverly, formerly the foreign secretary, expressed his disappointment that Sir Keir and Mr Lammy were unable to achieve international consensus for Ukraine's use of these missiles.
He informed Phillips that during his tenure as foreign secretary, he had "advocated strenuously" to supply Ukraine with the necessary defense resources, and stated that his administration was at the forefront in delivering the long-range missiles.
"The discussions are complex, but so far, we've had a history of success, and I'm truly optimistic that they will keep making progress," he stated.
Natalia Galibarenko, Ukraine's ambassador to NATO, stated that Kyiv will continue to request long-range missiles and will not back down.
She informed Trevor that the conditions on the battlefield were "complex" yet "managed," and mentioned that the counter-offensive into Russia was "not unsuccessful."
